This is a GREAT dog park! Mulched lower section and wooded slopes with some underbrush. The park is alot larger than it looks from the parking lot. One section (no division for little/large dogs) and no water. Poop pickup bags available, but no trash on site. Nonetheless, this park is definitely a place that the dogs can enjoy.

Welcome to Kennebunkport Dog Park
For dog owners across Maine, discovering a safe, expansive, and engaging space where their furry companions can truly stretch their legs and socialize off-leash is a highly sought-after commodity. The Kennebunkport Dog Park, nestled within the beautiful Meadow Woods Preserve, stands as a prime example of such a place. Offering a unique blend of open mulched areas and wooded slopes, it provides a diverse and stimulating environment for canines and their human companions alike. This park has quickly become a cherished local resource, known for its significant size and the freedom it offers to playful pups.
The Kennebunkport Dog Park is more than just a typical fenced-in area; it's a dynamic outdoor playground designed for active dogs. While it may appear modest from the parking lot, visitors are often pleasantly surprised to find that "The park is a lot larger than it looks." This expansive space offers a varied terrain, featuring a "mulched lower section" perfect for open play, alongside "wooded slopes with some underbrush" that invite exploration and provide a more natural, adventurous experience for dogs. This combination of open and wooded areas sets it apart, allowing for different types of canine enrichment.
Despite some minor points noted by visitors, such as the lack of separate sections for small and large dogs and inconsistent water availability, the overwhelming sentiment is positive. Customers consistently describe it as a "GREAT dog park!" and a place where "the dogs can enjoy." The park's design, with "benches throughout" and "2 entrances, one lower and one upper," speaks to a thoughtful layout aimed at user convenience. Ultimately, the Kennebunkport Dog Park is a testament to the community's desire for a robust, natural, and free environment for their beloved pets.
The Kennebunkport Dog Park is conveniently located within the serene Meadow Woods Preserve at 406 Mills Rd, Kennebunkport, ME 04046, USA. This address places it within easy reach for residents of Kennebunkport and surrounding towns in Southern Maine, making it an accessible destination for a wide range of dog owners. The park’s integration within the Meadow Woods Preserve suggests a natural and tranquil setting, offering a pleasant backdrop for dog walks and play.
Accessibility to the park is facilitated by its clear address and dedicated parking. Visitors will find that there are "2 entrances, one lower and one upper," each equipped with gates for secure entry and exit, ensuring dogs remain safely within the enclosed area. While specific details about the size or condition of the parking lot aren't provided, its presence indicates convenient access for vehicles. Being situated in Kennebunkport, a well-known area in Maine, also means it benefits from clear signage and established routes, simplifying the journey for both local residents and those visiting from further afield in the state.
While a dog park primarily provides an open space for off-leash recreation, the Kennebunkport Dog Park offers several key provisions and unspoken services to enhance the experience for its users:
- Designated Off-Leash Play Area: The core service is a large, enclosed area where dogs can run, play, and interact freely without leashes, promoting vital exercise and socialization.
- Waste Bag Availability: "Poop pickup bags available" at the park encourage responsible pet ownership and help maintain a clean environment for all visitors.
- Water Bowls (Self-Service/Inconsistent): There is "1 area for the drinking bowls," indicating an intention to provide hydration. However, it's noted that "There is no system for making sure the jugs get filled, so sometimes there is no water." This implies a communal system that relies on visitors to fill jugs, so owners should be prepared to bring their own water.
- Seating for Owners: "Benches throughout" the park provide places for owners to rest, observe their dogs, and socialize with other pet parents.
The Kennebunkport Dog Park boasts several features that contribute to its popularity and unique appeal among Maine dog owners:
- Expansive and Varied Terrain: A major highlight is its size, being "a lot larger than it looks from the parking lot." This expansive area includes both a "Mulched lower section" for open play and "wooded slopes with some underbrush," offering diverse sensory and physical experiences for dogs. This variety encourages more engaging and stimulating play.
- Natural and Wooded Elements: The "wooded slopes" and "underbrush" provide a more natural, wilder feel compared to flat, open fields. This allows dogs to explore, sniff, and engage in more natural behaviors, which can be highly enriching.
- Enclosed and Secure: The park is described as a "Large enclosed area," providing a secure environment for off-leash play. The "2 entrances, one lower and one upper, and each has the gates for entry" further enhance safety by creating a double-gated system to prevent accidental escapes.
- Benches for Human Comfort: The presence of "benches throughout" the park is a thoughtful amenity, offering comfortable spots for owners to relax while their dogs play.
- Community-Maintained Cleanliness: Despite the lack of trash cans on-site, the availability of poop bags suggests a community ethos of self-responsibility for cleanliness, which often leads to a more cared-for environment. The positive reviews imply that users generally adhere to this.
As a public or community-focused amenity, the Kennebunkport Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions or special offers" in the traditional retail sense, such as discounts or loyalty programs. Its primary "offer" is the free and accessible space it provides for local dog owners. However, like many community-supported parks, it might indirectly benefit from or be the venue for events organized by local animal welfare groups, park friends associations, or the town's recreation department. These could include:
- Community Workdays: Volunteer opportunities to help maintain the park, often a way for locals to give back and foster a sense of ownership.
- Fundraising Events: Local organizations might host dog-related fundraisers (e.g., charity walks, pet fairs) at or near the park to raise funds for its upkeep or for local animal shelters.
- Educational Workshops: Occasionally, dog trainers or animal behaviorists might offer free or low-cost workshops at public parks, focusing on dog socialization or leash etiquette.
For the most up-to-date information on any community events, volunteer opportunities, or park-related news, locals in Maine are encouraged to check the Kennebunkport town website, local community calendars, or any social media pages associated with the park or Meadow Woods Preserve. Aug 12, 2024 · Kindred WindLarge enclosed area, benches throughout. There are 2 entrances, one lower and one upper, and each has the gates for entry. I area for the drinking bowls. There is no system for making sure the jugs get filled, so sometimes their is no water. There isn't a separate area for dogs that may need to go solo. There also is no shaded area for the dog owners. Other than that, I love the park and will co.timue going.
Nov 13, 2024 · Donna “Dfemathlete68” OConnorIt looks like a great dog park. Very large and long. Lots of trees for them to have fun sniffing at. My dog doesn't always get along with other dogs and there was quite a few there so we didn't go in. We just looked. It looks like it'd be a great time for the dogs
Oct 15, 2024 · Katherine Collins100% Wood chips. No grass. No "meadow" anything. Enormous fenced in Dog park. Safe area. But zero grass. And even less parking.
