Not impressed. Large dog side had little grass and there were areas on the fence that need to be better secured. We have went a few times and no other pups for mine to play with. Ma & Pa Dog Park is much better.

Welcome to K9 Cody Dog Park

For dog owners across Maryland, finding a safe, dedicated, and enjoyable space for our canine companions to run, play, and socialize off-leash is incredibly important. In Havre de Grace, a charming city with a strong sense of community, the K9 Cody Dog Park stands as a valuable resource for local pet enthusiasts. This park offers a much-needed outlet for dogs to burn off energy and interact with their peers in a controlled environment, contributing to their physical and mental well-being.

K9 Cody Dog Park was established to meet the growing need for accessible dog-friendly amenities within the city. Opened in September 2016 by the Martin Administration, it reflects Havre de Grace's commitment to its four-legged residents. As Mayor William T. Martin stated at the park's opening, "We take our citizens seriously; we take our veterans seriously, and we take our four-legged friends seriously. They are our companions and our loved ones, as well as family members.” This ethos of care and community is at the heart of K9 Cody Dog Park, aiming to provide a positive experience for all who visit.

Location and Accessibility

It's important for local users to note the correct and most accurate address for K9 Cody Dog Park, as there has been some confusion. While some listings might show 1008 Graceview Dr, Havre De Grace, MD 21078, the park is officially and more accurately located behind the Havre de Grace Community Center at 100 Lagaret Ln, Havre De Grace, MD 21078. This clarification is crucial for a smooth visit!

The park's location behind the Community Center makes it easily accessible for residents of Havre de Grace and the wider Harford County area. There is a paved parking lot available, providing convenient off-street parking for visitors. This accessibility ensures that K9 Cody Dog Park is a practical and convenient choice for those looking to give their dogs some dedicated outdoor playtime. Its position in a publicly accessible area also means it's generally easy to find and integrate into your daily routine.

Services Offered

K9 Cody Dog Park is designed with essential amenities to support a functional and enjoyable off-leash experience for dogs and their owners.

  • Separate Fenced Areas for Large and Small Dogs: The park features two distinct, securely fenced pens to cater to dogs of different sizes and temperaments. There's one pen specifically designated for dogs smaller than 30 lbs and another for large dogs. This separation is crucial for ensuring safer interactions and allowing dogs to play with companions of similar stature, which is especially helpful for "newer pups" or those who may be more timid.

  • Water Fountains for Humans and Dogs: Hydration is key, and K9 Cody Dog Park provides "water fountains for both humans and dogs" located just "outside of the pens." This convenient amenity allows both pets and their owners to refresh themselves during or after playtime.

  • Benches/Chairs for Owners: Each of the two dog pens is equipped with "a bench / chairs." These seating options provide a comfortable spot for owners to rest, observe their dogs, and socialize with other park visitors while keeping an eye on their pets.

  • Pet Waste Bag Stations: While a recent review noted that bags "might be out," the park is generally equipped with "shovels and pet waste bags... for easy cleanup." This amenity encourages responsible pet ownership and contributes to keeping the park clean for everyone. Visitors are advised to bring their own bags as a backup.

  • Portable Toilets: For human comfort, there are "portable toilets" located on the paved parking lot. While their locked status might vary, their presence indicates an effort to provide basic restroom facilities.

Features / Highlights

K9 Cody Dog Park offers several features that contribute to its role as a key local amenity for dog owners in Havre de Grace:

  • Dedicated Off-Leash Space: The park provides a much-needed, fenced, half-acre space where dogs can run freely and safely. This dedicated area is essential for their physical exercise and mental stimulation.

  • Community Hub Potential: While some visits might find fewer dogs, the park is designed to be a place for "residents to give their dogs some socialization, exercise, and outside time near Downtown Havre de Grace." It has the potential to foster a strong community among local pet owners.

  • Shade Trees: The park features "plenty of shade trees for cover," offering natural relief from the sun on warmer days for both dogs and their owners.

  • Little Library: A unique and thoughtful touch, there is a "little 'library' with a variety of paperback books." This adds an unexpected element of human comfort and community sharing, allowing owners to enjoy a book while their dogs play.

  • Proximity to Community Center: Being situated behind the Havre de Grace Community Center means it's part of a larger recreational complex, potentially offering easy access to other amenities or being part of larger community events.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a municipal dog park, K9 Cody Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its purpose is to serve as a free public amenity for the community. However, its existence and upkeep are often supported by the City of Havre de Grace, and sometimes by local community groups or volunteers.

The park has been a venue for community events in the past, such as the "Bark For Life of Harford County," an American Cancer Society fundraising event that honored canine caregivers. Such events, while not direct promotions, highlight the park's role as a community gathering space and an opportunity for residents to engage with their city and support good causes. Local residents interested in potential community events, volunteer days, or opportunities to contribute to park improvements should monitor the City of Havre de Grace's official website or local community calendars for announcements.

The address listed (1008 Graceview Dr in Havre De Grace) is incorrect. The dog park is behind the Havre de Grace Community Center at 100 Lagaret Ln, Havre De Grace, MD 21078. The park is just fine. One pen for dogs smaller than 30 lbs and one for large dogs. Each has a bench / chairs. Outside of the pens, there are water fountains for both humans and dogs. There is also a little "library" with a variety of paperback books. There are no restrooms, but there are "portable toilets" on the paved parking lot, but I'm not sure if they are unlocked. ( I parked on the dirt roadway directly next to the dog park.) Bring your own poopy bags because they might be out, as they were when my dog and I visited.

Thankful the City provides us a fenced area to take our dogs. Has both large and small dog areas. Nice place. Has great shade and sunny areas. Poop bags provided (though some folks still don't pick up thier dogs poop🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️). The owners and thier dogs encountered so far have been very kind and friendly.

Nice dog park. Separate sides for large and small dogs. Lots of shade trees. Grass is kept mowed and fence line trimmed. There is a pet & human water fountain. A bench on each side provides a place to sit and watch your dogs. Lots of room for them to run.

Never very busy, and I love the separation between large and small dogs, but the small dog area isn't much smaller so they still have room to run. They have poo bags and shovels so you can pick up after your doggos, and there's water bowls and shade. Very pretty area
