Introduction / Overview
The Dog Park at West Kendall District Park, often simply referred to as "Dog Park" by locals due to its prominent location within the larger West Kendall District Park, is a sprawling 6.5-acre haven designed exclusively for canine enjoyment. Located in Miami, Florida, this park has quickly become a beloved destination for dog owners seeking a safe, clean, and stimulating environment for their pets. It's not just a patch of grass; it's a thoughtfully designed space that caters to the diverse needs of the dog community. From playful pups to seasoned seniors, dogs of all sizes can find their happy place here. The park's emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and ample space for off-leash exploration makes it a highly recommended spot by those who frequent it. It’s a passive park, intended for recreation and relaxation, allowing both dogs and their owners to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.
Location and Accessibility
The Dog Park is conveniently situated at 11405 SW 157th Ave, Miami, FL 33196, USA. Its prime location within the expansive West Kendall District Park means it's easily accessible for residents across Miami-Dade County, particularly those in the West Kendall, Kendall West, and Hammocks areas. The park offers ample parking, ensuring that visitors can find a spot without much hassle, even during peak hours. This ease of access is a significant advantage for busy pet owners.
The park operates with generous hours, typically open from 9 AM to 6 PM daily, allowing for morning playtime before the midday heat, as well as afternoon and early evening visits. It's always a good idea for locals to double-check the official Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces website for any seasonal changes to hours or specific holiday schedules. Services Offered
The Dog Park at West Kendall District Park is committed to providing a comprehensive experience for dogs and their owners, offering several key services:
- Spacious Off-Leash Play Zones: The core service is offering a large, securely fenced area where dogs can run freely, play fetch, and interact without the constraints of a leash, promoting crucial physical exercise and mental stimulation.
- Separate Areas for Small and Large Dogs: Understanding that dogs of different sizes have different play styles, the 6.5-acre park is intelligently divided into two distinct zones: one for larger dogs (typically weighing over 35 pounds) and another for smaller dogs (those weighing less than 35 pounds). This separation enhances safety and comfort for all canine visitors.
- Dog Comfort Stations with Water Features: The park provides dedicated "dog comfort stations" equipped with doggy drinking fountains and water sprays. These are invaluable for keeping pets hydrated and cool, especially during Florida's hot and humid months.
- Waste Management Facilities: To maintain cleanliness, the park offers readily available "pooper scoopers" (dog waste bags) and numerous waste disposal units. Regular maintenance by park staff ensures these units are well-stocked and emptied.
- Public Restrooms: For the convenience of human visitors, clean public restrooms are available within the park, a feature highly appreciated by reviewers.
- ADA Accessible Walkways: A concrete walkway connects all areas of the dog park, making it easily accessible for individuals with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity for all members of the community.
Features / Highlights
The Dog Park at West Kendall District Park stands out with several impressive features that make it a local favorite:
- Expansive 6.5-Acre Layout: The sheer size of the park, particularly the large dog area, provides ample room for dogs to truly stretch out and run, a significant advantage over smaller, more confined dog parks.
- Dog Play Equipment: Both the large and small dog areas feature dedicated "doggie play equipment" such as tire jumps, a paws table, and other agility-style elements. These additions offer fun and engaging opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation.
- Water Sprays: Beyond just drinking fountains, the inclusion of water sprays is a fantastic highlight for cooling down active dogs after a vigorous play session, providing a refreshing break from the heat.
- Shade Canopies: The park includes fabric shade canopies, offering much-needed shaded areas for both dogs and their owners to escape the intense Florida sun, enhancing comfort during visits.
- Ample Seating and Picnic Areas: Numerous park benches and designated picnic areas are available, allowing owners to relax comfortably while supervising their dogs.
- Information Kiosk: An information kiosk is present, likely providing details about park rules, hours, and other relevant information for visitors.
- Peaceful and Welcoming Environment: Reviews consistently describe the park as "peaceful and a very good environment," with people and pups being "almost always welcoming," fostering a friendly and community-oriented atmosphere.
- Concrete Path: A concrete path is available within the park, which is a practical feature, especially noted by owners of small dogs who might find tall grass challenging to navigate. This path provides a clean and accessible route for walking or exercising.

Aug 18, 2024 · Yesenia HerreraA really great dog park for big or small dog. Dog lovers will love this park. Water and games for dogs inside. Don't forget your mask there. It's clean and safe. Two doors security. Your dogs will be happy to run and play with you. Absolutely recommended.
Dec 13, 2020 · Ron KroMy pups love this place, we bring them here very often, is sad that some people don't obey the rules, also, county sometimes let the grass too high which can be a problem for small dogs, other than that, is a great place, keep an eye on your vehicle, I have seen broken glass from the car Windows on the lot. Restrooms are often clean, areas in general are well maintained and kept clean, usually pets are friendly in the under 25 pound dog area. I always find poop bags in the dispenser even I don't use them, I prefer my own that are biodegradable, not sure if the ones provided at the park are. I recommend this place for anyone with a pet.
Jul 12, 2023 · CHAFIC GREIGENice place to take yout dog. The place is always clean. There are two separate areas, one for large dogs and other for smaller dogs.
