Honestly, I have only been once. I remember it very fondly and I absolutely love the location of it. I have really good memories of the memorial park and even this dog park. It's like they are all wrapped into one big hug of a feeling. This dog park is seemingly a blessing to many, and I find that extremely comforting. I don't even like dogs that much. I'm a cat guy.

It’s clear why this park is considered a blessing to many dog owners in our community.

This means you can extend your visit by taking a leashed stroll through the park’s serene woodlands and along streams, providing a varied experience for both you and your canine companion. The park boasts a large parking lot, which is a significant advantage, especially during peak hours. Ample parking ensures that you won't struggle to find a spot, allowing for a smooth entry and exit to and from the park. Its integration into the Roswell city park system also suggests good maintenance and a commitment to public recreational spaces, making it a reliable choice for dog owners.
The Dog Park at Leita Thompson provides fundamental services centered around offering a safe and enjoyable off-leash environment for dogs. While it doesn't offer structured classes or specialized training, its core offerings are designed to facilitate essential canine needs:
-
Off-Leash Play Area: The primary service is a spacious, fenced-in area where dogs can run, play, and socialize freely without the restriction of a leash. This is crucial for a dog's physical and mental well-being, allowing them to expend energy and interact naturally with other dogs.
-
Separate Areas for Large and Small Dogs: A highly valued feature, the park is intelligently split into two distinct, fenced sections. One side is dedicated to larger dog breeds, providing ample space for their energetic play, while the other side is designated for smaller dogs, ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment where they won't be overwhelmed by bigger companions. This separation is vital for mitigating potential conflicts and promoting a positive experience for all sizes.
-
Water Fountains for Dogs and Humans: To keep both pets and their owners hydrated, the park provides dedicated drinking stations. This is especially important during Georgia's warmer months, ensuring that dogs have access to fresh water after vigorous play.
-
Waste Bag Dispensers: Promoting responsible pet ownership, the park often provides complimentary poop bags, making it easy for owners to clean up after their dogs. This amenity is crucial for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the park.
-
Seating for Owners: Benches are strategically placed within the dog park areas, offering comfortable spots for owners to relax while supervising their dogs. This allows for a more enjoyable and extended stay at the park.
The Dog Park at Leita Thompson stands out with several key features that enhance the experience for Roswell's dog-owning community:
-
Spacious, Fenced-In Environment: The generous size of the park allows dogs plenty of room to truly stretch their legs, chase, and engage in vigorous play. The robust fencing provides a secure boundary, giving owners peace of mind that their dogs can play off-leash without wandering off. As one reviewer mentioned, "If you have a dog that loves to run, this is the place."
-
Dedicated Small and Large Dog Sections: This is a critical highlight. The park's intelligent design includes two clearly separated and fenced areas – one specifically for small dogs and another for large dogs. This segregation is vital for the safety and comfort of all canine visitors, preventing smaller, more timid dogs from being overwhelmed by boisterous larger breeds. This thoughtful division demonstrates a commitment to providing a suitable environment for all dog sizes.
-
Integration with Leita Thompson Memorial Park: The dog park is a part of the larger Leita Thompson Memorial Park, which offers additional amenities and a beautiful natural setting. This means visitors can combine an off-leash play session with a leisurely leashed stroll on the park's scenic walking trails, which meander through woods and along streams. This creates a versatile outdoor experience for both dogs and their owners.
-
Convenient Amenities: The presence of human and doggie drinking stations ensures hydration for everyone, especially during warm Georgia days. Additionally, the availability of poop bags encourages and facilitates responsible clean-up, contributing to the park's overall cleanliness and pleasantness.
-
Ample Free Parking: A large, easily accessible parking lot is a significant convenience, eliminating the stress of finding a spot, even during busy periods. This makes visits to the park more straightforward and enjoyable.
-
Natural and Serene Setting: Being part of Leita Thompson Memorial Park, the dog park benefits from the surrounding green spaces and natural beauty, offering a peaceful retreat from urban hustle. One reviewer noted fond memories of the "memorial park and even this dog park. It's like they are all wrapped into one big hug of a feeling."
As a public, municipal dog park operated by the City of Roswell, the Dog Park at Leita Thompson typically does not offer "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense. Access to the park is generally free for the public, as it is a city amenity. Its value is inherent in its provision of a well-maintained, free-to-use space for dog owners.
However, the "offer" to the community lies in its consistent availability and the valuable services it provides without a fee. The significant benefits include:
-
Free Off-Leash Access: The most significant "offer" is the free entry to a secure, fenced area where dogs can play off-leash, a crucial amenity for dog owners who want to provide adequate exercise and socialization for their pets without incurring costs.
-
Complimentary Waste Bags: While not always guaranteed, the provision of free poop bags is a valuable convenience that helps maintain the cleanliness of the park and supports responsible pet ownership, acting as an ongoing "special offer" to visitors.
-
Free Parking: The availability of a large, free parking lot is a considerable benefit, reducing the overall cost and hassle of visiting the park.
-
Hydration Stations: Free access to water fountains for both dogs and humans is an essential amenity, especially during warm weather, and effectively serves as a continuous "special offer" of convenience and care.
It is always advisable for locals to check the City of Roswell's official parks and recreation website for any announcements regarding park hours, maintenance closures, or community-led dog-friendly events that might occasionally take place at Leita Thompson Memorial Park. The clear separation into large and small dog areas is a testament to the park's thoughtful design, ensuring that all dogs, regardless of size or temperament, have a safe and comfortable environment. This thoughtful layout helps to minimize potential conflicts and maximize positive interactions, which is essential for fostering a healthy canine community.
Beyond the immediate dog park, its location within the serene Leita Thompson Memorial Park offers extended benefits. Furthermore, as a free public amenity managed by the City of Roswell, the Dog Park at Leita Thompson provides accessible recreation without financial burden. The ample free parking also removes a common barrier to park visitation. For Georgians who love their dogs and want to ensure they lead happy, healthy, and social lives, this park is more than just a place to let your dog run; it's a vital community hub that supports responsible pet ownership and strengthens the bond between humans and their beloved canine companions right here in Roswell. It truly serves as a cornerstone for dog-friendly living in our area.

Mar 11, 2025 · Jonathan BuncicWell maintained, large fenced in park - it is split into two sides for small and large dogs. Been here many times. I hate that there are ALWAYS big dogs on the small side, despite crystal clear signs…seems really inconsiderate and selfish toward the small dog owners and their dogs. 🙄 If you have a dog that loves to run, this is the place. Large parking lot too with a trail.
Feb 01, 2025 · June BugGreat trails and fields right around the dog area!
Sep 10, 2023 · Mikael VolaricIs really just a fenced in field but is handy and good place to let the dogs run and talk to other dog owners and get ideas on groomers etc. Would be nice if all owners would clean up after their pooches.
Apr 04, 2023 · Jim StevensonAbsolutely love this park. The dog park is right next to one of the trail entrances.
