Our favorite of the many dog parks we've exploer arount the Portland/South Vancouver area, Dakota is a nice sized dog park, not too big, or too small, plenty of room for dogs to really run but not so big that you lose sight of your dog. It is a gated and well maintained park.

In the vibrant and growing communities of Southwest Washington, finding a dog park that perfectly hits that sweet spot – not too big to lose sight of your dog, yet large enough for a good run – can be a real challenge. Dakota Dog Park perfectly addresses this need. It provides a secure, gated environment where dogs can truly let loose, engage in spirited play, and meet new friends, all while owners enjoy peace of mind knowing their pups are safe and visible.
What truly sets Dakota Dog Park apart is its versatile design. Combined with its excellent maintenance and convenient location, it’s no wonder Dakota Dog Park has earned a reputation as a top-tier destination for dog owners in Vancouver and beyond. It’s a place where every visit contributes to a happier, healthier, and well-socialized pup.
Dakota Dog Park is strategically located at NE 172nd Ave, Vancouver, WA 98684, USA. This accessible address places it conveniently within reach for a significant portion of the Vancouver population, as well as those traveling from nearby communities in Clark County, such as Camas, Battle Ground, or even across the river from parts of Portland, Oregon.
The park's location off NE 172nd Ave ensures straightforward access from major thoroughfares, making your trip quick and hassle-free. While nestled within a residential area, its clear signage and designated access points ensure visitors can easily find their way. The ease of getting to Dakota Dog Park is a significant advantage, particularly for busy dog owners looking to fit quality playtime into their daily routines.

The park is designed with clear pathways leading from the parking areas to the double-gated entry points of the off-leash area, ensuring a smooth and safe transition for both dogs and their handlers. Dakota Dog Park provides essential services and amenities focused on creating a safe, clean, and enjoyable public off-leash experience for dogs and their owners.
- Off-Leash Play Area: The central service is a designated, well-maintained, and securely fenced area where dogs can run, play, and socialize freely without leashes.
- Separate On-Leash Walking Paths: Surrounding the main off-leash enclosure, the park features paved or graveled paths ideal for on-leash walks and training. This allows for diverse exercise routines within the same park setting.
- Waste Disposal Stations: Conveniently located waste bag dispensers and trash receptacles are available throughout the park, encouraging responsible pet waste disposal and contributing to overall cleanliness.
- Clean Restrooms: Unlike some dog parks, Dakota Dog Park boasts clean and accessible public restrooms for human visitors, enhancing comfort during longer visits.
- Water Fountains (Seasonal): While it's always advisable to bring your own, public dog parks often provide seasonal water fountains for dogs to stay hydrated. Users should verify availability during their visit.
Dakota Dog Park is distinguished by several key features and highlights that contribute to its popularity and functionality as a premier dog park in the Vancouver area.
- Perfectly Sized Enclosure: Reviewers consistently praise the size of the off-leash area – it's large enough for dogs to run and play vigorously without feeling cramped, yet not so vast that owners lose sight of their pets, striking an ideal balance.
- Gated and Secure: The entire off-leash area is fully fenced with secure gating, providing peace of mind for owners about their dogs' safety and containment.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: The park is consistently noted for being well-maintained, with mowed grass and clean surfaces, contributing to a pleasant and hygienic environment.
- Versatile Exercise Options: The ability to let dogs run off-leash for zoomies and then transition to an on-leash walk on the surrounding paths offers excellent versatility for different exercise needs and training opportunities.
- Community Garden & Sample Gardens: Adjacent to the dog park, there is a vibrant community garden. This provides a pleasant backdrop and a chance to explore sample garden ideas, adding to the overall park experience for humans.
- Positive Community Atmosphere: The park attracts a responsible and friendly community of dog owners, fostering positive social interactions for both dogs and their humans.
- Accessibility to Amenities: The presence of clean restrooms is a significant highlight, improving the comfort level for visitors during their time at the park.
- Free Public Access: As a public park, there is no entry fee, making it an accessible and affordable option for regular dog outings.
As a public park managed by local governmental entities (likely Clark County Parks & Recreation, potentially with support from groups like DOGPAW – Dog Owners Group for Park Access in Washington), Dakota Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs akin to private businesses. Access to the park is generally free for all visitors.
However, the "special offers" of a well-resourced public park like Dakota Dog Park come in the form of its consistent provision of a high-quality community amenity:
- Free Public Access: The most significant "special offer" is the ongoing availability of a spacious, well-maintained, and safe off-leash area completely free of charge. This makes it an invaluable, accessible resource for all local dog owners.
- Community Events & Initiatives: While not direct promotions, local dog advocacy groups (such as DOGPAW) or park departments may occasionally host free or low-cost community events at public dog parks, including training workshops, clean-up drives, or social gatherings. These events enhance the park experience and provide added value to visitors. It’s recommended to check local community calendars or the websites of relevant park organizations for any upcoming events at Dakota Dog Park.
- Ongoing Maintenance & Improvements: The sustained investment in maintaining the park's cleanliness, security, and amenities (like restrooms and pathways) through public funding and volunteer efforts can be viewed as an ongoing "offer" of a high-quality recreational space for the community.
Since Dakota Dog Park is a public facility, users should not expect traditional retail promotions. Its immense value lies in its consistent provision as a free, safe, and enjoyable space for dogs and their owners in the Washington area.

Apr 11, 2025 · Rick NeuhoffOne of our favorite dog parks in the area. We go in the off leash area to get the zoomie’s out, then walk the path that circles the entire park for on leash training. Clean restrooms and a community garden at this park. Next to the community garden are sample gardens for ideas for your home garden.
Mar 15, 2025 · Crystal MullinsThis approximately 8-acre dog park is located within Pacific Community Park. This dog park is dedicated to Dakota, who died in the line of duty. It is fully fenced with double-gated entrances at both ends, separate sections for small and large dogs, a gravel walking trail amongst nicely maintained flat open fields, as well as a forested area, a rustic log agility course, drinking fountains for both dogs and humans, a dog rinse off area, and benches throughout. It is a beautiful setting with plenty of room to run around, and I think your fur baby will really enjoy it here! 😍

Mar 03, 2025 · Karl MurilloThis is by far the biggest dog park I have ever been to. Everyone there was nice. Anytime we are in the neighborhood, as we live out of state, we will make sure to stop here.
