Best Dog park I've been to since moving back to MN. Much larger than all other dog parks in the area and access to a river along the entire side of the park. If your dog likes the water and it's a hot day then this is the best spot to go to, and I live closer to Minnehaha but still make the drive here. Only major call-out is that it's not fenced in so if your dog is prone to taking off after small critters or cars then I would say it's not a good fit.

Welcome to Crow Hassan Dog Park

For Minnesota dog owners who crave expansive natural spaces where their canine companions can truly roam free, the Crow-Hassan Dog Park in Rogers offers an unparalleled experience. Unlike many traditional fenced dog parks, Crow-Hassan provides a vast, open landscape designed to mimic a natural wilderness, complete with diverse terrain and even river access. It's a destination that truly lets your dog embrace their inner explorer, making it a beloved spot for those seeking a more adventurous off-leash outing in the Twin Cities metro area.

Managed by the Three Rivers Park District, Crow-Hassan Dog Park is part of the much larger Crow-Hassan Park Reserve, boasting a 40-acre off-leash area. This enormous size means there's ample room for long walks, vigorous play, and plenty of sniffing opportunities without feeling confined. It's a place where you can genuinely tire out even the most energetic of pups while enjoying the scenic beauty of Minnesota's natural landscapes.

Local visitors consistently praise the park's unique offerings. One enthusiastic dog owner raved, "Best Dog park I've been to since moving back to MN. Much larger than all other dog parks in the area and access to a river along the entire side of the park. If your dog likes the water and it's a hot day then this is the best spot to go to, and I live closer to Minnehaha but still make the drive here." This highlights the park's impressive scale and its invaluable river access for hot days.

Another long-time patron echoed this sentiment: "I LOVE this park for dogs. It's so expansive and safe to let the dogs run free. The river with sand bar is great for hot days and letting the dogs cool off. I love all the different trails you can take to make your time there short or long." These firsthand accounts from fellow Minnesotans clearly demonstrate why Crow-Hassan Dog Park is a must-visit for those who value natural exploration and vast open spaces for their furry friends.

Location and Accessibility

Crow-Hassan Dog Park is located at the Crow-Hassan Trail Access, Rogers, MN 55374, USA. It is part of the extensive Crow-Hassan Park Reserve, which spans over 2,500 acres. While the mailing address may list Rogers, the park reserve itself is large and borders Hanover, so navigating to the "Crow-Hassan Dog Off-Leash Area" specifically is key. It's situated in the northwest exurbs of the Twin Cities, making it a convenient drive for residents from areas like Rogers, Albertville, St. Michael, and even further points in Hennepin and Wright counties.

The park is typically open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., providing ample hours for visitors to enjoy the vast trails and river access. Ample parking is available at the designated trail access points. It is crucial to be aware that as a Three Rivers Park District facility, a valid daily or annual park pass is required for use of the dog park. These passes must be displayed in your vehicle or carried for presentation upon request. You can typically purchase daily passes on-site or annual passes online via the Three Rivers Park District website. This permit system helps fund the maintenance and oversight of this expansive park.

A significant accessibility note for Crow-Hassan Dog Park is that it is largely unfenced. This means dogs must have reliable recall and be consistently under voice control. As one reviewer cautioned, "Only major call-out is that it's not fenced in so if your dog is prone to taking off after small critters or cars then I would say it's not a good fit." This unfenced nature, while offering immense freedom, requires a higher level of owner responsibility and dog training.

Services Offered

Crow-Hassan Dog Park focuses on providing a natural, expansive environment for off-leash exercise and exploration. While it doesn't offer formal "services" in the commercial sense, its natural features and facilities are highly valued by visitors.

  • Vast Unfenced Off-Leash Area: The primary offering is a massive 40-acre designated off-leash zone, allowing dogs to run freely through open fields, wooded areas, and along the river. This provides unparalleled space for exercise and natural behavior.
  • River Access and Sandy Beaches: A major highlight is direct access to the Crow River, complete with sandy areas or "sand bars." This is ideal for water-loving dogs to swim, cool off, and play, particularly on hot Minnesota days.
  • Extensive Trail System: The park features miles of natural dirt and wood chip trails that wind through varied terrain, including restored prairie, wetlands, and mature hardwood forests. These trails offer opportunities for long walks and explorations, with one reviewer noting options to make your visit "short or long."
  • Restroom Facilities: A "toilet" or vault toilet is available, which is a convenient amenity for human visitors during longer outings.
  • Parking: Ample parking is provided at designated trailheads to accommodate visitors.
  • Natural Environment: The park's focus on a largely untouched, natural setting allows for a unique sensory experience for dogs, with plenty of scents to explore and varied landscapes to navigate.

Features / Highlights

Crow-Hassan Dog Park is distinguished by several unique features that make it a favorite among experienced Minnesota dog owners:

  • Massive 40-Acre Size: This is one of the largest, if not the largest, off-leash dog parks in the Twin Cities metro area, providing an incredible amount of space for dogs to run without feeling crowded.
  • Direct River Access: The ability for dogs to safely access and swim in the Crow River from sandy banks is a significant draw, especially during warm weather. This natural water feature sets it apart from many other dog parks.
  • Unfenced Freedom: For dogs with excellent recall and owners confident in their dog's obedience, the unfenced nature offers unparalleled freedom of movement and a more natural "hiking with your dog" experience.
  • Diverse Natural Trails: The park features a variety of trails winding through woods, prairies, and along the river, offering different environments and challenges for dogs and their owners.
  • Secluded and Less Crowded: Due to its location in the northwest exurbs and expansive size, it generally sees less traffic than some other major dog parks, offering a more serene experience, particularly during off-peak hours.
  • Wildlife Viewing Opportunities: The natural environment provides opportunities for birding and observing other wildlife (though owners should always be mindful of their dogs around wildlife).

Promotions or Special Offers

As a part of the Three Rivers Park District, Crow-Hassan Dog Park operates under a permit system rather than offering commercial "promotions" or "special offers." The "offer" here is the value provided through access to such a vast, well-managed natural space.

Access requires a Three Rivers Park District dog park pass, which can be purchased as either a daily pass or an annual pass. For frequent visitors, an annual pass represents significant value, providing unlimited access to Crow-Hassan and all other Three Rivers Park District off-leash dog areas for a full year. These passes directly contribute to the maintenance of the park, including trail upkeep, waste management, and overall ecological preservation.

The Three Rivers Park District occasionally offers promotional events or educational programs related to responsible pet ownership, park usage, or nature appreciation. These opportunities would be announced through their official channels. However, there are no typical retail discounts or loyalty programs associated with the park itself. The best "promotion" is the consistent availability of this exceptional natural playground for your dog.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Minnesota dog owners, especially those residing in the northwest metro, Crow-Hassan Dog Park offers a truly unique and highly suitable off-leash experience. Its defining characteristic, the immense 40-acre unfenced expanse, provides unparalleled freedom for dogs to run, explore, and engage with nature in a way that smaller, enclosed parks simply cannot. This is particularly appealing for high-energy breeds or those who thrive on extensive exploration.

The direct access to the Crow River, complete with sandy areas, is a significant draw, providing a natural cooling-off spot on hot days and an exciting element for water-loving dogs. The network of diverse trails winding through prairie, wetlands, and woods ensures that every visit can be a new adventure, offering varied scenery and sensory experiences for your canine companion. While the unfenced nature demands a dog with excellent recall and a responsible owner, for those who meet this requirement, Crow-Hassan is a liberating and deeply rewarding destination.

Despite the minor inconvenience of a nearby gun range that some visitors find distracting, the overall consensus from locals is overwhelmingly positive. The peace and tranquility of the vast natural setting generally prevail, and the ability to choose between long and short walks allows for flexible visits. Being part of the Three Rivers Park District assures a level of professional management and maintenance, ensuring that this valuable resource remains a jewel for Minnesota's dog-owning community. For a true taste of wilderness exploration with your best four-legged friend, Crow-Hassan Dog Park is undoubtedly worth the drive.

I LOVE this park for dogs. It's so expansive and safe to let the dogs run free. The river with sand bar is great for hot days and letting the dogs cool off. I love all the different trails you can take to make your time there short or long. There is a toilet which is great as well. The only downside...the gun range across the road. Kind of ruins the peace and tranquility of the park.

My dog loves this place. Second best dog park in Minnesota in my opinion, would be number one if it was a little bit bigger. Has good water access and tons of friendly puppies.

Great park if your dog comes back to you on recall as there is no fence. Went late in evening and it felt safe. Excited to return during the daytime! My dog loved it! Lots of different terrain for my high energy dog.
