My favorite dog park ❤️ Around a mile lap with a optional river/ creek for the doggos to cool down. Always watch your dogs because sometimes other people and their dogs don't have manners and are a little aggressive. Bring bags to clean up after your dog! They also updated the center of the dog park and now dogs can run everywhere in this park without super tall weeds and stickers. Cost $14 without a pass, $11 to park in their parking lot and & $3 for the dog. We usually just park at Walmart and walk over.

Welcome to Cherry Creek Dog Off Leash Area (DOLA)

For dog owners in Colorado, especially those residing in the Denver Metro area, finding an expansive and stimulating environment for their canine companions is a top priority. The Cherry Creek Dog Off-Leash Area (DOLA), nestled within the sprawling Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora, CO, stands out as a premier destination. This isn't just a small fenced-in patch; it's a vast, 107-acre paradise designed to let dogs truly be dogs, offering abundant space to run, play, and even swim.

Often hailed as a favorite among local dog enthusiasts, the DOLA provides an unparalleled off-leash experience. Its diverse terrain, including open fields and access to the cooling waters of Cherry Creek, makes it an ideal spot for exercise, training, and socialization. While there are a few important considerations, such as park entry fees and responsible pet ownership, the overwhelming sentiment from the community is that the DOLA offers exceptional value and an enriching outing for both pets and their humans.

Location and Accessibility

The Cherry Creek Dog Off-Leash Area is strategically located with its primary access point near the S Entrance Rd, Aurora, CO 80015, USA. Being part of the larger Cherry Creek State Park, accessing the DOLA requires entry into the state park itself. The state park can be accessed from multiple points, including Parker and Orchard roads or from the north at 12 Mile North. This central Aurora location makes it highly convenient for residents not only from Aurora but also from surrounding communities like Denver, Centennial, and Parker.

Parking for the DOLA is typically available within the state park's designated parking areas. While there are associated fees for both park entry and DOLA use (which we'll detail later), the accessibility is generally good. Some local users even opt to park off-site, for instance, at a nearby Walmart, and walk over to bypass initial parking fees, highlighting the dedication of the community to utilize this fantastic space.

Services Offered

The Cherry Creek Dog Off-Leash Area is designed with the comprehensive needs of dogs and their owners in mind, providing a suite of services and amenities that enhance the overall experience:

  • Expansive Off-Leash Play: The core service is the vast 107-acre fenced area dedicated entirely to off-leash dog activity. This allows for unparalleled freedom for dogs to run, explore, and play.
  • River/Creek Access: A significant highlight is the direct access to Cherry Creek, which flows through the DOLA. This offers a natural and refreshing option for dogs to cool down, splash, and swim, especially on warm Colorado days. Recent renovations have improved creek access for easier entry and exit.
  • Designated Walking/Running Trails: Within the DOLA, there's an approximate mile-long loop trail, providing a clear path for owners to walk or run while their dogs enjoy the off-leash freedom.
  • Poop Bag Stations: To promote cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, numerous poop bag stations are strategically placed throughout the area, ensuring owners have easy access to bags for waste disposal.
  • Updated Ground Conditions: Recent efforts have focused on updating the center of the dog park, addressing issues like "super tall weeds and stickers." This means dogs can now run more freely and comfortably across the entire park without concerns about irritating plant matter.
Features / Highlights

The Cherry Creek Dog Off-Leash Area boasts several features that solidify its reputation as a top-tier dog park in Colorado:

  • Massive 107-Acre Size: This unparalleled acreage provides an immense amount of space for dogs to run, play fetch, and explore without feeling confined. It truly allows dogs to stretch their legs and satisfy their natural instincts.
  • Natural Creek for Swimming: The presence of Cherry Creek within the DOLA is a major draw. Dogs love to cool off and play in the water, and this natural feature offers a unique and highly valued amenity not found in many urban dog parks.
  • Variety of Terrain: The park offers a mix of open fields and trails, providing diverse environments for exploration and exercise. This keeps visits interesting for both dogs and owners.
  • Fenced Area: Despite its vast size, the DOLA is a fenced area, providing a secure environment for off-leash play. While the creek naturally forms one border, the fencing on other sides ensures a contained space.
  • Encourages Exercise & Exploration: More than just a simple "dog park," the DOLA encourages extensive exercise and caters to curious dogs. Its sheer size and natural elements promote active engagement.
  • Socialization Opportunities: As a popular destination, the DOLA attracts a large number of dogs and owners, providing ample opportunities for canine socialization and interaction.
  • Scenic Views: Being part of Cherry Creek State Park, visitors can also enjoy beautiful natural scenery while their dogs play, making it a pleasant outing for the whole family.
Promotions or Special Offers

While the Cherry Creek Dog Off-Leash Area doesn't offer typical commercial promotions, its primary "special offer" comes in the form of its tiered pass system, which encourages frequent visitation and provides significant savings for loyal users. The structure is as follows:

  • Daily Vehicle Pass (Cherry Creek State Park Entry): Approximately $11-$12 (subject to change) to enter the state park.
  • Daily Dog Off-Leash Pass: An additional $3 per day for access to the DOLA (covers handler and up to three dogs).
  • Annual Dog Off-Leash Pass: A cost-effective option at $25 (covers handler and up to three dogs for 12 months from purchase date). This pass must be displayed by the handler.
  • Annual State Park Pass: Investing in an annual Colorado State Parks pass (approximately $80 for an affixed vehicle pass or the $29 "Keep Colorado Wild Pass" during vehicle registration renewal) can significantly reduce daily vehicle entry costs for those who visit multiple state parks frequently. While the DOLA fee is separate, having an annual park pass makes the overall visit more economical for regular users.

Many local users highly recommend investing in the annual DOLA pass and, if visiting other Colorado State Parks, an annual State Park pass, as it offers substantial savings over daily fees, making repeated visits truly "worth it."

Additionally, the DOLA is often the site for various dog-related community events, such as "Dog-A-Palooza" or "National Puppy Day" celebrations. While these are not ongoing promotions, they offer special experiences for dog owners. It's advisable to check the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) website or local Aurora/Denver event listings for upcoming dog-friendly gatherings at Cherry Creek State Park.

This is the best dog friendly walking trail!! Off leash dog area is huge with plenty of poop bag stations and so much open space for dogs! There is a good sized creek where dogs can also run and swim. This is the better than any “dog park” encourages exercise and plenty of space for curious dogs! I recommend investing in an annual pass! We go here every day we can. I have a high energy dog and the 100 acres there with Cherry Creek running through it is just the thing for her. Most of the people and their pups are wonderful.

Our favorite place to bring our dog! He absolutely loves it. It has everything you could possibly want: lots of trail options (can do a 3 mile loop), dog agility course, water access and some nice Mountain Views on clear days.
