This park is clean and I'm happy one is provided here. However, no shade is provided. As you can see from the photos, the nice benches are in direct sun. Even if your dog can handle the sun, who says we can? There was a nice drinking fountain outside the dog park. Inside were several water bowls. Just know you will have to leave your dog inside to fill it in the fountain. Not a problem for most dogs. This is a good park for shy dogs who are just getting their feet wet in the big dog world. I'm happy that this dog park is provided. We love seeing areas where our four-legged friends can run free. I however like the shade of toad hollow dog park or Dixon dog park. There's more room to run. There are fountains inside those parks, and Dixon has an obstacle course.

For dog owners across California, the pursuit of a perfect spot where our four-legged family members can freely roam, play, and socialize is a continuous journey. In the charming city of Davis, the Cannery Dog Park emerges as a notable option, especially for those seeking a clean and well-maintained environment for their canine companions. Nestled within the innovative Cannery community, this dog park offers a dedicated space for pups to stretch their legs and enjoy some off-leash freedom. While Davis boasts several excellent dog parks, Cannery Dog Park holds a unique appeal for its pristine condition and its welcoming atmosphere, particularly for dogs who might be a bit more reserved. We understand that a truly great dog park is more than just a fenced area; it's a place that caters to the needs of both dogs and their owners, providing essential amenities and fostering a sense of community. This article will provide an in-depth look at Cannery Dog Park, highlighting its convenient location, the key features it offers, and why it has become a cherished spot for dog owners in the Davis area and beyond. Discover what makes this park a valuable addition to California's dog-friendly landscape.
Cannery Dog Park is conveniently situated at 2400 Cannery Loop, Davis, CA 95616, USA. Its location within The Cannery, a modern, farm-to-table community in Davis, makes it easily accessible for residents of this unique neighborhood and the wider Davis area. The Cannery itself is known for its pedestrian-friendly design and extensive green spaces, which enhances the overall experience of visiting the dog park.
Accessibility to the park is generally good, as it's part of a thoughtfully planned community. While specific parking details aren't explicitly provided, being located within a residential community typically means street parking or designated visitor parking is available nearby. One crucial piece of information for first-time visitors is the presence of a "nice drinking fountain outside the dog park." This means owners might need to temporarily leave their dog inside the park to fill water bowls, which is "not a problem for most dogs" but good to be aware of. The park's location at the southeast corner of The Cannery makes it a convenient amenity for those living within or near this innovative Davis development. Its integration into a larger residential area ensures it's a local and easily reachable spot for daily visits, contributing to its suitability for the community.
Cannery Dog Park offers several valuable amenities and provisions that serve the needs of its canine visitors and their human companions. While it operates as a public park, these offerings act as services for the community:
-
Fenced Off-Leash Area: The primary service provided is a dedicated, fenced enclosure where dogs can safely run and play off-leash, allowing for essential exercise and social interaction.
-
Water Accessibility: The park ensures dogs have access to water. There's a "nice drinking fountain outside the dog park," and "several water bowls" are available inside. This is crucial for hydration, especially during warm California days.
-
Clean and Well-Kept Grounds: Visitors consistently praise the park for being "clean" and "very well kept." This commitment to maintenance provides a pleasant and hygienic environment for all users.
-
Benches for Owners: The park features "nice benches," allowing owners to sit and relax while supervising their dogs. While noted that they are in direct sun, their presence is appreciated for owner comfort.
-
Suitable for Shy Dogs: The park's atmosphere and perhaps its size make it a "good park for shy dogs who are just getting their feet wet in the big dog world." This indicates a potentially less overwhelming environment compared to larger, busier parks.
-
Friendly Community: The presence of "lots of friendly dog parents and dogs" suggests a welcoming social environment, which is a key, albeit intangible, service for human visitors seeking connection.
Cannery Dog Park, though perhaps smaller in scale compared to some other Davis dog parks, offers distinct features and highlights that make it a cherished spot for local dog owners:
-
Exceptional Cleanliness and Maintenance: A standout feature consistently praised by visitors is how "clean" and "very well kept" the park is. This commitment to hygiene ensures a pleasant and safe environment for all dogs and their owners.
-
Water Availability (Inside and Out): The park provides robust water access. There's a convenient drinking fountain just outside the dog park, and multiple water bowls are available inside, ensuring dogs stay hydrated during play.
-
Ideal for Shy or New Dogs: A unique highlight is its suitability for "shy dogs who are just getting their feet wet in the big dog world." This suggests a calm and less intimidating environment, making it perfect for puppies or dogs building confidence in social settings.
-
Friendly Community Vibe: The presence of "lots of friendly dog parents and dogs" creates a welcoming and positive atmosphere, fostering good social interactions among both canines and their human companions.
-
Fenced Enclosure: As a fenced dog area, it provides a secure space for off-leash play, giving owners peace of mind that their dogs are contained.
-
Located in The Cannery Community: Being part of The Cannery development means visitors can also enjoy the surrounding pedestrian-friendly environment and community amenities, potentially combining a dog park visit with other activities.
-
Benches for Owners: While lacking shade, the presence of benches allows owners to rest and observe their dogs, contributing to a comfortable visit.
As a public amenity within the City of Davis, Cannery Dog Park does not typically run commercial promotions or special offers in the way a private business would. Its value proposition is centered on providing a free, accessible, and well-maintained public space for the community's dogs and their owners.
Therefore, you won't find advertised discounts, loyalty programs, or limited-time deals specific to Cannery Dog Park. The "promotions" for this park are intrinsic to its function as a public resource:
-
Free Access: The primary "special offer" is the complimentary use of a clean, fenced off-leash area, saving dog owners on potential private park fees.
-
Provided Amenities at No Cost: The availability of water fountains and bowls, as well as benches, without any charge, enhances the user experience and offers convenience.
For information on any community-driven events, such as park clean-up days, pet-related gatherings, or educational workshops that might take place at or near Cannery Dog Park, locals should consult the official City of Davis Parks and Community Services website, local community boards within The Cannery development, or local pet-focused social media groups. These resources would be the most reliable source for any special activities related to the park.

Cannery Dog Park offers a compelling option for California locals, particularly those in Davis, seeking a dedicated space for their dogs. Its suitability stems from several key aspects. Firstly, the consistent reports of the park being "clean" and "very well kept" are paramount for any dog owner. This ensures a hygienic environment for pets to play in, reducing concerns about health and safety. While some larger parks in the area might offer more extensive running room or agility equipment, Cannery Dog Park's managed size often translates into a less overwhelming environment, making it "a good park for shy dogs who are just getting their feet wet in the big dog world." This niche appeal is highly valuable for owners of timid dogs or puppies, providing a supportive space for socialization.
Secondly, the provision of water—both from an outside fountain and multiple bowls inside—addresses a critical need, especially during California's warm weather. This thoughtful amenity means owners don't have to carry large water bottles, making visits more convenient. The friendly atmosphere, with "lots of friendly dog parents and dogs," fosters a positive community vibe. For locals, this means not just a place for their dog to exercise, but also an opportunity for themselves to connect with like-minded individuals. While the lack of shade for benches is a noted drawback, the overall cleanliness, water access, and welcoming environment still make Cannery Dog Park a highly suitable and valued resource for many dog owners in the Davis community, particularly for those whose dogs benefit from a more intimate and managed play setting.
