This is our favorite dog park. Crushed Limestone paths in a figure 8 (1/2mile walk) with a log bench to sit on at the halfway point. Plenty of trees and long grass area for dogs to run around in. Poop bags and trash containers offered at front entrance with a large open area for dogs to run and socialize as well as 3 shaded picnic tables. Porta-potty facilities offered at end of parking lot turn-around by the canoe launch area. All size, breed and ages of dogs, most owners are courteous of dog behavior and respectful of scooping poop. It is each owners responsibility to stop and/or remove their dog if they show aggressive tendencies to another dog. I highly recommend this off leash dog park if you want to walk your dog.

As a public facility managed by the DuPage County Forest Preserve District, the Blackwell Off-Leash Dog Area and Canoe Launch Lot does not typically offer traditional commercial promotions or special offers in the way a private business might. However, its value proposition for Illinois locals is inherent in its cost-effective access to a premium dog park experience. The primary "promotion" is the annual permit system. While a permit is required for entry, this single permit often grants access to all off-leash dog areas within the DuPage County Forest Preserve system. This represents excellent long-term value for frequent visitors, providing unlimited access to multiple high-quality, maintained facilities throughout the year for a single fee.
Resident discounts for DuPage County residents on these annual permits further enhance their affordability, making it an even more attractive option for those living locally. Any specific "offers" would typically come in the form of these tiered permit pricing structures, rather than temporary sales or discounts on services. The consistent upkeep, provision of amenities like waste bags, and the overall quality of the park serve as the continuous "special offer" to the community, encouraging repeated visits and providing a reliable, enriching experience for dogs and their owners without additional daily costs.
For those looking to learn more about the Blackwell Off-Leash Dog Area and Canoe Launch Lot, or to obtain the necessary permit for entry, the contact information is primarily through the DuPage County Forest Preserve District, which manages this facility. While one review mentions potential challenges with the crushed limestone paths in wet weather or for dogs with thick hair, and the dust it can create, these are often minor trade-offs for the extensive space and freedom offered. Jun 11, 2025 · Judy McHughThe sand/gravel trail is that of nightmares if your dog has any kind of thick hair. In any sort of even remotely wet weather it turns into a sand soup and when it's hot you might as well throw dust and sand straight into your car. There's no actual grass, it's either sandy trail or trees - either way your car will get completely covered in muck. If there was any other park closer to me I would happily never come back here.
Jan 29, 2025 · Iain MartinWe like Blackwell for its large population of enthusiastic dog owners, and their dogs, of course. We can reliably find playmates for our dog there.
Apr 02, 2025 · Michael Young (MikeWhy)Really great dog park that loops in a figure eight. Lots of big trees that offer shade while you walk. Not a lot of space to throw a ball or frisbee, but you can do laps around which my pup liked a lot. Very pretty area in general and right down the road from the entrance to McKee Marsh. The trail is gravel the entire way around, therefore a pretty good place to walk even if it has just rained.
Jul 05, 2023 · Jenna BrashearGreat spot to bring the pup. Big open field with lots of trails, plenty of sunlight, and poop bags available.
