The vets here and clinical staff have been very kind and informative over the years to us, so we are grateful for that. Over the years we’ve had a few things happen that have left us wondering if we should find a different office, however. Some of the discussions we’ve had about questions on policy, costs, prescriptions have left a bad taste in our mouth. Today we went to go pick up a medication our dogs been taking for years. Two months ago it was 25ish dollars - today it was 45. No notice or explanation why it nearly doubled in cost. When I called to discuss the staff member said “yup right price” essentially and had no real reasoning or offering to talk to someone about how or why a medicine doubled in cost. I’m willing to buy any prescription my dog needs and will continue to - but it would be nice to know why the cost is what it is. Especially when I go online and find out I can get the same exact med sent from chewy with a prescription for $10…. Would love to know why it’s 4x the cost at the vet? Just an example of feeling like cost transparency is not valued here unfortunately.

Welcome to ZimmVet
Located at 12187 253rd Ave NW, Zimmerman, MN 55398, USA, ZimmVet stands as a prominent and established pet hospital serving the Zimmerman, MN, area, including surrounding communities like Elk River and Princeton. Operating since 1993, ZimmVet's tradition has been to make the veterinary experience as positive as possible for both pets and their human caregivers. They are a full-service facility equipped to handle a wide array of pet's veterinary needs, from routine check-ups to advanced medical care. You can reach ZimmVet by phone at (763) 856-4848 or +1 763-856-4848. Their standard hospital hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no weekend hours for appointments.
ZimmVet's mission centers on providing the highest quality of care for furry companions, recognizing that pets are integral members of the family. They strive for kind, compassionate, and positive treatment with each patient.
ZimmVet is described as a modern, recently remodeled clinic designed to create a welcoming environment. This suggests a commitment to physical comfort and a positive atmosphere for both animals and their owners. As an AAHA-accredited practice (American Animal Hospital Association), ZimmVet adheres to rigorous standards of excellence in facilities, equipment, and patient care, which directly impacts the clinic's environment. AAHA accreditation often implies a dedication to high standards of cleanliness, safety, and a well-organized flow of care. While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, a modern facility likely incorporates features to minimize stress for pets, such as separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, calming colors, non-slip flooring, and appropriate lighting. The consistent praise for the staff's kindness and informativeness further contributes to a comforting and reassuring environment, even during potentially stressful visits.
As a full-service pet hospital, ZimmVet offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services to address the diverse health needs of dogs and cats throughout all life stages. Their comprehensive offerings include:
- Preventive & Wellness Care: This is a cornerstone of ZimmVet's practice, emphasizing proactive health. Services include thorough annual and semi-annual wellness exams, tailored vaccination programs (including extended protocol vaccinations for up to 3 years), internal parasite testing, and heartworm and flea control. They also offer nutritional counseling and weight management, body condition scoring, and specialized diet options.
- Pet Dental Care: Recognizing the importance of oral health, ZimmVet provides comprehensive dental services, including examinations, professional teeth cleanings, and digital dental X-rays.
- Veterinary Surgery: The clinic performs a range of surgical procedures, including soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, in a dedicated surgical suite. They emphasize a clean, compassionate, and comfortable setting for all surgical interventions. They also offer advanced procedures like laparoscopic surgery.
- Advanced Diagnostics: To accurately diagnose and treat conditions, ZimmVet is equipped with in-house laboratory capabilities for chemistry and hematology (blood work), urinalysis, and microbiology. They also utilize digital X-ray (radiography) and ultrasound for internal imaging.
- Specialized Veterinary Care: ZimmVet offers focused care in several areas, including pet allergy testing and dermatology for healthy skin, veterinary eye care, and pet pain management (recognizing subtle signs of pain in pets).
- Puppy & Kitten Care: Providing a healthy start for new furry companions, including initial vaccinations and deworming.
- Senior Pet Care: Specialized care for aging pets, addressing their changing needs and ensuring their comfort and quality of life.
- End-of-Life Care: ZimmVet offers compassionate support during this difficult time, including humane euthanasia services, often collaborating with cremation services like Companions Forever Cremation Services, as exemplified by Dr. Reed's assistance to the family of Chance.
- Additional Services: Beyond medical care, ZimmVet also offers grooming, acupuncture, and boarding services for both dogs and cats.
ZimmVet possesses several strong features, particularly in its staff and commitment to compassionate care, though some aspects regarding pricing transparency have been noted by clients.
- Kind and Compassionate Staff: A consistently praised feature is the kindness and compassion of the vets and clinical staff. Clients express gratitude for their understanding and support, particularly during emotional times like end-of-life care. Dr. Reed, specifically, is mentioned for her empathetic assistance during a pet's passing. The staff's approach is described as "very kind and informative." This compassionate treatment is a hallmark they strive for with each patient.
- Knowledgeable and Experienced Medical Team: The staff is recognized for being highly knowledgeable and experienced, providing thorough explanations and guidance to pet owners. They are dedicated to delivering top-notch medical care.
- Comprehensive Care Philosophy: ZimmVet aims to provide holistic care throughout a pet's life, from proactive wellness to managing complex conditions and offering compassionate end-of-life support. They emphasize personalized care tailored to individual pet needs.
- AAHA Accreditation: Their status as an AAHA-accredited practice signifies a commitment to the highest standards in veterinary medicine, going beyond basic state regulations. This includes standards for equipment, facilities, patient care, and continuing education.
- Pricing Transparency Concerns: While the clinic aims for positive experiences, one notable concern expressed by a client is the lack of transparent communication regarding cost increases. A medication that nearly doubled in price without notice or a clear explanation, especially when available significantly cheaper through online pharmacies, left a "bad taste." This suggests an area where the clinic could improve its client communication regarding pricing policies and options.
ZimmVet's promotional efforts are largely built upon its long-standing reputation for quality care and its commitment to a positive client experience. While specific discounts aren't extensively detailed, general features often highlighted by veterinary clinics like ZimmVet include:
- Client-Centric Approach: Their mission to make the veterinary experience "as positive as possible" and their emphasis on turning "patients and their human caregivers into friends" indicate a strong client-focused approach. They likely offer tools for clients to manage pet records online and support various payment options like CareCredit. They also partner with online pharmacies like Hill's to Home Store and Purina ProPlan Vet Direct for convenient food and prescription purchases.
- Referral Rewards Program: ZimmVet values client referrals and offers a "small token of appreciation" for each new client who uses an existing client's name as a referral source. This incentivizes word-of-mouth marketing, reflecting confidence in their service.
- Pet Insurance Acceptance: They accept pet insurance for unexpected accidents and illnesses, and also provide information on wellness plans and treatment financing solutions like CareCredit, helping clients manage veterinary costs.
- Long-Term Client Relationships: The reference to "over the years" and long-term clients speaks to the clinic's ability to build lasting relationships based on trust and consistent care.
- Focus on the Human-Animal Bond: Their dedication to compassionate treatment and recognition of pets as family members is a key aspect that attracts and retains clients. This was poignantly demonstrated in the care provided during Chance's end-of-life journey.
While ZimmVet excels in providing compassionate and comprehensive veterinary care, including advanced medical and surgical services, the client feedback regarding pricing transparency suggests an area for potential improvement in communication. Nevertheless, their long-standing presence, AAHA accreditation, and numerous positive testimonials underscore their commitment to being a trusted healthcare provider for pets in the Zimmerman area.

May 14, 2025 · Megan RaiberThank you, Dr. Reed and staff who helped us on Monday, December 16, 2024, for sending our best friend Chance over the rainbow bridge. We adopted Chance from Tri County Humane Society 11 plus years ago (the best decision we ever made). Chance has never been away from us in all these years. The first and only night spent not at home was Tuesday the 17th when we took him to Companions Forever Cremation Services in Waite Park. Conrad made the process very easy. Thank you all Mike, Kathy and Chance
Dec 19, 2024 · Kathy PruchnickiAbsolutely love this vet office! After trying and failing to find a compassionate vet that wasn’t just out to drain my bank account. I found zimmvet! From the start of making my appointment there was amazing costumer service and kindness with the receptionist! The vet techs and vet were amazing at explaining everything to me, and they were very kind. I will be recommending ZimmVet to everyone I know!
May 01, 2025 · Courtney RutherfordDr. Olson was very kind to our dog Edgrrr. She was/is very sympathetic and didn't talk down to us about Edgrrr's diet.
Apr 08, 2025 · Sarah PruchnickiWe have been bringing our dog in for grooming since they offered grooming. Jasmine is an excellent groomer and despite being ZimmVet being distant from our home, we are happy to bring our boy in. She does a wonderful job and our boy loves her and she takes good care of him. Thanks for offering this service.
