As a prominent 'Pet Hospital' in the local community, Whitney Veterinary Hospital offers a wide array of services designed to address the diverse needs of dogs and cats, from routine wellness to advanced medical treatments. Their commitment to high standards is evident in their various accreditations and certifications, setting them apart in the veterinary landscape.
One of the distinguishing features of Whitney Veterinary Hospital is its dedication to creating a calming and low-stress environment for pets. They understand that a vet visit can be anxiety-inducing for many animals, and they go to great lengths to mitigate this. Whitney Veterinary Hospital is a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice® (CFP), meaning they have incorporated the highest level of cat-friendly techniques. This includes having feline-focused treatments and spaces, which helps ensure a more peaceful experience for their feline patients. Furthermore, their staff is Fear FreeSM Certified. This certification means their professionals are specially trained in techniques that reduce stress for pets during their visits, such as low-stress handling and using smaller needles. Several customer reviews highlight this aspect, with pet owners noting the staff's gentle approach and how comfortable their animals, even former outdoor cats, feel during their visits. They strive to bring pets directly into an exam room upon arrival to minimize interaction with other animals, further reducing potential stress.
Whitney Veterinary Hospital provides a vast range of professional veterinary services, covering everything from preventative care to specialized treatments. Their services include, but are not limited to:
- Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups are foundational to maintaining a pet's health.
- Vaccinations: Tailored vaccination plans are designed based on a pet's age, lifestyle, and other factors to protect against common diseases.
- Surgery: They offer a variety of surgical services, including advanced procedures such as TPLO and ligament repairs, which may not be available at all local animal hospitals.
- Pet Dental Care: Essential for overall pet health, dental services ensure good oral hygiene.
- Dermatology: Addressing skin and coat issues for pets.
- Acupuncture: An alternative therapy offered for various conditions.
- Stem Cell Services: Advanced treatment options for certain medical conditions.
- Behavioral Counseling: Their veterinarians, including Dr. Roe (specializing in cat behavior) and Dr. Hayes (experienced in cat and dog obedience training), work to understand and correct unwanted pet behaviors.
- Advanced Diagnostics: Equipped with in-house capabilities such as CT scans, endoscopy, ultrasound, and X-rays, allowing for quicker and more accurate diagnoses.
- Pet Oncology and Chemotherapy: Providing support and treatment for pets diagnosed with cancer, helping owners navigate this challenging time.
- Full Pharmacy: An in-house pharmacy allows for convenient filling of prescriptions at the time of appointment.
Whitney Veterinary Hospital distinguishes itself through several key features:
- AAHA Accreditation: Since 1971, Whitney Veterinary Hospital has been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This is a significant indicator of quality, as only about 12% of veterinary hospitals in the U.S. meet AAHA's rigorous standards, which are evaluated on over 900 criteria of veterinary excellence every three years. This commitment to higher standards assures pet owners of exceptional care.
- Certified Veterinary Technicians: Unlike some facilities where staff may learn on the job, Whitney Veterinary Hospital employs certified veterinary technicians, ensuring a higher level of professional expertise and care.
- Experienced Team: The hospital boasts a team of dedicated veterinarians and staff with many years of combined experience. They are committed to continuous education, ensuring they stay current with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine.
- Patient and Client-Centered Approach: Customer reviews frequently highlight the staff's friendliness, caring demeanor, and helpfulness, from the front desk to the vet techs and doctors. They prioritize communication and treat pets and their owners like family. As one reviewer stated, "Every single person is extremely friendly and caring. The vet techs and doctors are amazing."
- Community Involvement: Whitney Veterinary Hospital is actively involved in the Peoria community, supporting various charities and events such as Critter Meals on Wheels, Race for the Cure, Career Talks at Local Schools, Student Observation Days, Bark in the Park, and Christmas Outreach Programs. This demonstrates their commitment beyond just veterinary services.
Whitney Veterinary Hospital aims to be your long-term partner in pet healthcare. They emphasize being a trusted and compassionate resource for pet owners, committed to helping every animal live their longest and happiest life. They make it easy for new clients to connect with them, encouraging prospective pet owners to call (309) 685-4707 to schedule an appointment or use their online appointment request form. While some reviews mention that their services might be on the higher end of the price spectrum, many customers feel the value and quality of care justify the cost. They accept various payment methods, including cash, check, Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and CareCredit®, and they also work with pet insurance providers, encouraging clients to explore options that can help cover veterinary costs.
Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 7:45 a.m. to noon, closed on Sundays. For after-hours emergencies, they direct clients to the Tri-County Animal Emergency Clinic. Mar 08, 2025 · Megan SpringI absolutely love this place. From the moment you walk in the door until the moment you leave, every single person is extremely friendly and caring. The vet techs and doctors are amazing. The ladies at the front desk are friendly, caring, and helpful. I can't say enough good things about this veterinarian office.
Feb 27, 2025 · Pam DobbsI have been going to this veterinary practice for 18 years. They always treat my pets like family. They are very compassionate towards humans and pets. Whenever I have encountered any rare issue, they resolve it promptly. They have helped my pets at beginning and end of life, and through heartworm treatment on a rescue.
Feb 27, 2025 · Melanie CungtionDr. Mike did a great job. He fixed issues that two other vet clinics kept throwing pills at. I just wish we would have found him sooner he took care of our little Stewie and made his last couple of years more enjoyable. When Stewie passed Dr. Mike took the time to send us a sympathy card with a personal message. We will not trust our pets care to anyone else. Thank you Dr. Mike
Jan 31, 2025 · Jim LuczajDr. Hayes, and the entire staff are true professionals that actually really care about your pet and you. My doggo Apollo, age 5, would have had a much shorter life from being lame in both rear legs. 2 Tplo surgeries within a year at Whitney by Dr. Hayes and crew, and I have my old puppy back again. Thank you all so much for saving my beloved Doodle. I'll be forever grateful as will his doodle brother Atlas. God bless you all!
