Had Colic surgery done in summer of 2023. The surgery went great… the after-care, not great. Not even decent. He came down with pneumonia after surgery (ok, not their fault) but…they put my horse at the end of the isle, and blew-out the isle each day with a leaf blower to where the dust, hay, and whatever other debris flurries into his stall before making its exit. On top of this, the vet techs did not put on his mask correctly where the holes go over his nose. So when I went to visit, he was struggling to breathe and had a shit ton of dust coming at him each day. I was not recommended to get a belly band until a YEAR after surgery when he continued to have issues with swelling. He also had a stitch that was infected that they didn’t discover until 9 months after surgery, and this was because I insisted something wasn’t right. I will not be going back to leave my horses here unless it is the only option. I just wish they were better about taking the best care of my horse that I just spent $16k on to save his life. The lack of detail in communicating and lack of empathy towards my horse during the few days post surgery really left a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll be going to Payne Equine for recovery and Brazos Valley for vet needs or emergencies.

This introduction focuses on Waller Equine Hospital, a facility within the Pet Hospital category that specializes in equine care, located at 28234 Farm to Market 2920, Waller, TX 77484, USA. While this hospital is based in the United States, this overview aims to provide local users in Singapore who may be involved with horses or are interested in specialized veterinary care with an understanding of the potential strengths and weaknesses of such a facility, based on the available customer feedback. This can help you identify key considerations when seeking veterinary services for large animals in your local area.

For equine veterinary services in Singapore, you would need to search for local practices that specialize in large animal or equine care.

The customer reviews for Waller Equine Hospital present a mixed perspective, particularly contrasting surgical outcomes with the quality of after-care and communication. One reviewer recounts a successful colic surgery performed in the summer of 2023, where the surgery itself "went great." However, they express significant dissatisfaction with the after-care. They mention their horse developing pneumonia post-surgery (which they acknowledge might not be the hospital's fault) but raise serious concerns about the horse being placed at the end of an aisle that was blown out daily with a leaf blower, causing dust, hay, and debris to be blown into the horse's stall. Additionally, they noted that vet techs did not correctly fit the horse's mask, leading to breathing difficulties due to dust. This reviewer also reports a lack of recommendation for a belly band until a year after surgery, despite ongoing swelling issues, and an infected stitch that was only discovered nine months post-surgery after their insistence that something was wrong. This individual states they would only return as a last resort due to concerns about the level of care relative to the significant cost of the surgery ($16,000) and expresses disappointment in the lack of detailed communication and empathy post-surgery.

In contrast, another reviewer provides a glowing account of "outstanding care and communication." They specifically praise Dr. Boutros and the entire Waller Equine staff for their exceptional response when their horse experienced colic in the middle of the night. As an ER nurse, this reviewer appreciated the urgency and coordination displayed, comparing the team's response favorably to a top-tier emergency department—swift, thorough, and dedicated. They emphasize the professionalism and compassion shown, which made a significant difference in their experience.

Considering these contrasting experiences, we can analyze various aspects of Waller Equine Hospital:

Environment: The first review provides some insight into the environment, mentioning aisles and stalls. The practice of using a leaf blower to clean the aisle, potentially affecting horses in nearby stalls with dust and debris, is a significant concern raised. The second review does not detail the physical environment but implies a well-organized and efficient setting, particularly in emergency situations.

Services: Based on the reviews, Waller Equine Hospital offers at least the following services:

  • Colic surgery.
  • Post-operative care and monitoring.
  • Emergency services for equine conditions like colic.
  • General veterinary care (implied by the mention of vet techs and follow-up issues).

Given that it is a dedicated equine hospital, they likely offer a broader range of services tailored to horses, such as lameness evaluations, reproductive services, and other surgical procedures.

Features: Key features that can be inferred from the feedback include:

  • Skilled Surgeons: The first review acknowledges a successful surgery.
  • Effective Emergency Response: The second review praises the swift and thorough action during a colic emergency, particularly highlighting Dr. Boutros.
  • Potential Issues with After-Care: The first review raises concerns about post-operative management, including environmental factors (dust) and the timeliness of addressing complications (infected stitch, belly band recommendation).
  • Variable Communication: One reviewer noted a lack of detailed communication and empathy post-surgery, while another praised outstanding communication during an emergency.

Promotional Information: The second review, with its strong praise for Dr. Boutros and the staff's emergency response, serves as a positive promotion for the hospital's capabilities in critical situations. The comparison to a top-tier emergency department is a significant endorsement. Conversely, the detailed negative experience shared in the first review acts as a cautionary account regarding after-care and communication.

For local users in Singapore seeking equine veterinary care, these reviews underscore the importance of considering both the surgical expertise and the quality of ongoing care, including the environment and communication from the veterinary team. When researching clinics, it may be helpful to inquire about their post-operative protocols, their cleaning practices, and how they keep owners informed about their animal's progress.

In conclusion, Waller Equine Hospital in Waller, TX, appears to have the capacity for successful surgical interventions and an effective emergency response team, as highlighted in the positive review. However, the detailed concerns raised in the other review regarding after-care, environmental conditions, and communication cannot be ignored. When choosing a pet hospital, especially for specialized care like equine veterinary services, it is essential to seek a balanced view of their strengths and weaknesses to ensure the best possible outcome for your animal. Consider asking specific questions about post-operative care and communication practices when evaluating potential providers in your local area.

Always have top notch service from everyone at Waller, the vet and their techs are so thorough when assessing my horses and very informative thru the whole process of whatever I am there for. I love knowing they are available 24/7 and even though I drive an hour to see them, I'm never disappointed. Accepting Care Credit is a huge plus as well

Waller Equine has been our personal vet as well as our barn vet for over 20 years. They have always gone over and above with our horses. From a late night colic or routine services, we have trusted them completely for the best care. Dr. Boutros and Shauna put together a great team!

Several of the vets at Littleton Equine have treated my gelding over the past 2 years, and all have been extremely professional, caring and helpful, usually going above and beyond. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful as well. Highly recommend!
