Pictures speak 1000 words. I did not go inside because it was such a dump on the outside. I was shocked to find this advertised as a working clinic. I have a rescue dog that was spade there that now has to be spade AGAIN. The procedure was incomplete, and she comes in heat. I would not bring my pet rat there. I highly recommend staying away if you love your pet

Welcome to Virgil Veterinary Clinic
For pet owners in Virgil, Illinois, Virgil Veterinary Clinic, located at 47W651 Ic Trail, presents a complex picture based on the limited online customer reviews available. While one reviewer expresses severe concerns about the clinic's external appearance and the quality of a past surgical procedure, strongly advising others to stay away, another customer recounts a highly positive experience with a successful and affordable surgical intervention for their dog. These starkly contrasting accounts suggest a potential inconsistency in the quality of service or significant differences in individual experiences, requiring local users to carefully consider both perspectives when evaluating this "Pet Hospital" for their veterinary needs.
One highly critical review focuses primarily on the external environment of Virgil Veterinary Clinic. The reviewer states, "Pictures speak 1000 words. I did not go inside because it was such a dump on the outside. I was shocked to find this advertised as a working clinic." This strong negative reaction to the clinic's exterior raises immediate concerns about the overall upkeep and potential cleanliness of the facility, even without the reviewer entering the premises. The reviewer then shares a deeply troubling past experience, alleging that "I have a rescue dog that was spade there that now has to be spade AGAIN. The procedure was incomplete, and she comes in heat." This is a serious accusation of medical negligence and suggests a significant lapse in the quality of surgical care provided at some point. Based on these negative observations and past experience, the reviewer issues a strong warning: "I would not bring my pet rat there. I highly recommend staying away if you love your pet." This unequivocal condemnation should be a significant point of consideration for potential clients.
In stark contrast, another reviewer shares a positive experience involving a surgical procedure on their bull mastiff, Dakota. They recount taking their dog in for a ruptured sebaceous cyst that had been present for three years. After a four-week waiting period to see if it would heal on its own, they sought veterinary advice. The initial recommendation was surgery, which understandably made the owners "skeptical" due to the location on the dog's head and the possibility of it being cancerous. Despite their initial reservations, they decided to "put our trust in this clinic since they have seen our other pups in the past," indicating a prior positive history with Virgil Veterinary Clinic. The reviewer praises the "Doc and his staff" for making them "feel very comfortable" and expressing confidence in the veterinarian's ability to perform the procedure. A significant factor in their positive experience was the affordability: "His prices were amazing." The outcome of the surgery was also highly satisfactory: "our dog Dakota is doing absolutely amazing as if nothing happened." Based on this successful experience, the reviewer offers a strong recommendation: "we would trust this clinic and recommend them to anybody who needs a highly qualified surgeon or veterinarian." They conclude with a heartfelt "Thank you for being such an amazing Doc ❤️" and share a positive update on their dog's recovery, noting that a photo taken just three days post-surgery shows Dakota as "a very happy dog recovering very well❣️"
Based on these conflicting customer reviews, the environment of Virgil Veterinary Clinic in Virgil, IL, is subject to vastly different perceptions. One reviewer describes the exterior as a "dump," leading them to refuse to enter, which raises serious concerns about the clinic's upkeep and appearance. Conversely, the reviewer with the positive surgical experience does not comment on the external environment, focusing instead on the comfort provided by the staff and the successful outcome of the procedure. This lack of information about the interior environment from either review makes it difficult to form a comprehensive picture. However, the stark contrast in the description of the exterior suggests that the clinic's physical appearance may be a significant deterrent for some potential clients.
As a "Pet Hospital," Virgil Veterinary Clinic likely offers a range of general veterinary services to address the health and wellness needs of pets in the Virgil area. Based on the reviews, these services include routine wellness examinations (implied by past care for "other pups"), spaying procedures, and surgical interventions for conditions like ruptured sebaceous cysts. The positive surgical outcome for the bull mastiff suggests that the veterinarian has surgical skills, and the reviewer even recommends them as a "highly qualified surgeon." However, the negative report of an incomplete spaying procedure raises serious concerns about the consistency and quality of their surgical services. The mention of "Doc" and staff implies a team consisting of at least one veterinarian and support personnel. The "amazing prices" mentioned in the positive review suggest that their services may be more affordable compared to other clinics in the area.
Several features of Virgil Veterinary Clinic can be inferred from the limited reviews, though they present a mixed picture. On the negative side, the poor external appearance reported by one reviewer is a significant concern. The alleged incomplete spaying procedure raises serious questions about the quality of their surgical care in some instances. On the positive side, the successful surgical outcome for the bull mastiff highlights the potential for skilled surgical intervention. The "amazing prices" mentioned by the satisfied customer could be a significant draw for pet owners seeking affordable veterinary care. The fact that a client trusted them with multiple pets over time suggests a prior positive history and a level of established trust, at least in some cases. However, the starkly contrasting experiences indicate a potential inconsistency in service quality or a significant difference in individual client experiences.
Neither of the provided reviews mentions any specific promotional offers at Virgil Veterinary Clinic. Veterinary hospitals sometimes offer introductory specials for new clients or wellness plans that bundle routine services at a discounted rate. Given the mixed feedback regarding this clinic, it would be prudent for local pet owners to inquire directly about any promotional offers while also thoroughly discussing their specific pet's needs and any concerns arising from the negative review. It would be wise to seek detailed information about the clinic's surgical protocols and post-operative care procedures, especially in light of the reported incomplete spaying.
In conclusion, Virgil Veterinary Clinic in Virgil, Illinois, presents a challenging profile for potential local users. One review raises serious concerns about the clinic's external appearance and alleges a significant lapse in surgical quality with an incomplete spaying procedure. This reviewer strongly advises against using the clinic. Conversely, another customer reports a highly positive experience with an affordable and successful surgical treatment for their dog, leading to a strong recommendation. These conflicting accounts suggest a significant variability in customer experiences or service quality at Virgil Veterinary Clinic. Local pet owners should carefully weigh these contrasting perspectives and consider seeking further information or potentially consulting with other pet owners in the area before making a decision about entrusting their pets' care to this clinic. The stark negativity regarding the environment and a past surgical error cannot be ignored, even in light of a more recent positive surgical outcome and affordable pricing.

Apr 26, 2023 · Katy BellWe took our bull mastiff, Dakota in because she had a sebaceous cyst on top of her head that had ruptured after three years of being just a bump. We waited approximately 4 weeks before we took her in to see what the Doc had to say since it wasn’t healing. Once we took her in to see the Doc was when he proceeded to tell us that surgery was our only option. Of course we were both skeptical about a procedure that was going to be so detailed because it was on top of her head & possibly a cancerous growth. We put our trust in this clinic since they have seen our other pups in the past. Doc and his staff made us feel very comfortable and we felt he would be a good fit to do this procedure. His prices were amazing, our dog Dakota is doing absolutely amazing as if nothing happened, we would trust this clinic and recommend them to anybody who needs a highly qualified surgeon or veterinarian. Thank you for being such an amazing Doc ❤️ FYI - the photo of Dakota on her back is literally 3 days after her surgery. She’s a very happy dog recovering very well❣️
Dec 16, 2021 · K BDecember 18, 2022. My birthday. Most veterinarians are still operating under Covid and pandemic regulations. And we’re not open on weekends. I rescue that my partner and I saved together was in the last part of her life. Suffering and suddenly becoming paralyzed and in a ton of pain I frantically called trying to find a veterinarian that would service my cat nobody was open. I called virtual veterinarian about 31 minutes after they closed to my surprise they picked up in a panic I quickly explained what was going on with my cat but it was my birthday and I did not know what to do and could not find anybody to help me. He had us bring her in immediately, despite having somewhere important to go he waited for us to come from Sycamore to Virgil to treat our cat. We gave her sedatives and painkillers and she had a peaceful 24 hours before we got her back the next day and he put her down with respect and dignity. It was very clear that day that they had something else going on that was very important but they took the time to care and the empathy to make my little baby peach feel better. That allowed us to have 24 hours more with our kitty. Free from pain and, One terrible birthday a little easier to bear. This vet is an older gentleman and he might struggle to keep things up to a standard that privileged people in the area might expect however he is a vet in the middle of nowhere quite literally in the country and he he rescues quite a few different animals and cares for them. He deeply cares for his career and what he does and that’s clear and how he treats his animals it might be a little bit rough around the edges. But the Care inside is worth going for.
Jul 11, 2024 · Isobell IzzieWe took our small kitten here who was sick. Got us in right away. Fair with his bill which is almost impossible these days. The wife and vet were so kind to us. Thank you
Oct 08, 2022 · Jody WilhelmThough the building’s outside is a little worn, what’s inside is the absolute best! Both Doc and Lisa give incredible care and compassion to all types of animals-and extend that compassion to the pet owners too. Doc gives info to you honestly, doesn’t “pressure” you into any additional procedures that you weren’t looking for, and is a very honest and fair businessman. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for vet services-Doc and Lisa are the best!
