I took my dog to Dr. Dale Smith a couple years ago when she could barely walk and had no quality of life at all. I had been to several general veterinarians who just kept telling me “her hips are fine.” Dr. Smith met me in the parking lot of the clinic building to see the dog walk and he immediately recognized elbow dysplasia. He and staff did surgery within a week. After recovery, my sweet girl did great. She is a little slow, but runs and plays with the other dogs and is able to have a great quality of life. Was just reflecting on how awesome this was for her.

Welcome to Veterinary Orthopedic Services

Welcome to Veterinary Orthopedic Services, a specialized pet hospital located in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, dedicated to providing exceptional orthopedic care for your beloved animal companions. Within the category of Pet Hospitals, we distinguish ourselves by focusing exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in pets. Our commitment is to improve the quality of life for animals suffering from orthopedic issues, ranging from developmental problems to traumatic injuries and degenerative diseases. At Veterinary Orthopedic Services, we understand the profound impact that mobility and comfort have on your pet's overall well-being, and we strive to offer the most advanced and effective orthopedic solutions available.

Our facility is designed to provide a focused and efficient environment for the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions. While we may not offer the broad range of services found in a general veterinary practice, our specialization allows us to invest in advanced diagnostic tools and surgical equipment specifically tailored for orthopedic procedures. This includes high-quality digital radiography, which is crucial for accurately assessing bone and joint conditions. Our surgical suite is equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and instrumentation to ensure the safety and success of even the most complex orthopedic surgeries. We maintain a meticulous and sterile environment to minimize the risk of infection and promote optimal healing.

The cornerstone of Veterinary Orthopedic Services is our team of highly skilled and experienced veterinary orthopedic specialists. Our veterinarians have undergone extensive training and possess in-depth knowledge of the intricate workings of the animal musculoskeletal system. They are adept at diagnosing a wide range of orthopedic conditions, including but not limited to hip and elbow dysplasia, cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries, patellar luxation, fractures, dislocations, and various other joint and bone disorders. Their specialized expertise allows them to accurately identify the underlying causes of lameness and develop tailored treatment plans to address each pet's unique needs.

One of the key features of Veterinary Orthopedic Services is our commitment to providing individualized and comprehensive treatment plans. We understand that no two cases are exactly alike, and we take the time to thoroughly evaluate each patient, considering their specific condition, age, activity level, and overall health. Our approach often involves a combination of medical management, physical therapy recommendations, and surgical interventions when necessary. We believe in open communication with pet owners, ensuring that you fully understand your pet's diagnosis, treatment options, and the expected recovery process. We are dedicated to answering your questions and addressing any concerns you may have every step of the way.

The positive experiences shared by our clients underscore the expertise and dedication of our team. One pet owner recounted how Dr. Dale Smith accurately diagnosed their dog's elbow dysplasia after multiple general veterinarians had misdiagnosed the condition. Dr. Smith's prompt diagnosis and subsequent surgery significantly improved the dog's quality of life, allowing her to run and play again. This testimonial highlights our specialists' keen diagnostic skills and their ability to identify and treat complex orthopedic issues that may be overlooked by general practitioners.

Another powerful testimonial describes how Dr. Becker saved a young Australian Shepherd's leg after a traumatic injury. Despite being advised by an emergency veterinary clinic and multiple other vets that amputation was the only option for a severe brachial plexus injury, Dr. Becker recognized the potential for nerve regeneration and recommended a different course of action, including rehabilitation. The remarkable recovery of the dog, who now shows only a slight limp, speaks volumes about Dr. Becker's expertise, thoroughness, and commitment to exploring all possible treatment options. This case also emphasizes the importance of seeking specialized orthopedic care for complex injuries.

While Veterinary Orthopedic Services primarily focuses on surgical interventions for orthopedic conditions, we also recognize the importance of non-surgical management in certain cases. This may include pain management strategies, anti-inflammatory medications, and recommendations for therapeutic exercises or referral to specialized rehabilitation facilities like Alta Dog Rehab, as mentioned in one of the reviews. Our goal is to provide the most appropriate and effective treatment to restore your pet's mobility and alleviate their pain, whether through surgical or non-surgical means.

As a specialized pet hospital, our primary focus is on providing exceptional orthopedic care. Therefore, we may not offer the same range of general wellness services, such as routine vaccinations or preventative medications, that you might find at a full-service veterinary clinic. However, we work closely with your primary care veterinarian to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to your pet's overall health. We are happy to communicate with your general practitioner to share our findings and treatment plans, ensuring seamless continuity of care.

Regarding promotional information, as a specialized surgical practice, we do not typically offer broad discounts or promotions on our services. The cost of orthopedic care can vary significantly depending on the complexity of the condition and the required treatment. We are committed to providing transparent and detailed cost estimates for all procedures, and our team will work with you to understand the financial aspects of your pet's care. We believe that the value of our specialized expertise and the potential for significantly improving your pet's quality of life justify the investment in our services.

Dr Becker saved my dogs leg. He was hit by a car and the emergency AVC clinic in Salt Lake City told me my 4 month old Australian Shepard’s leg would need to be amputated and I should do it immediately. Brachial plexus injury in his front left arm. After seeing 3 different vets over a 3 week span, all said he would likely lose the leg and there was nothing I could do. Then I took him to dr Becker and everything changed. He was clearly far more knowledgeable than anyone I had seen and told me while there’s no guarantee, I should absolutely not amputate until I gave him a chance because he still had feeling in his paws and there was still nerve function. He did a few more tests and was very informative and honest about everything. After a lot more advice, he suggested I take him to alta dog rehab which I also can’t recommend enough. After 6 months he had almost fully recovered other than a slight limp. He’s now going on 3 and you’d barely ever know he had an accident. And it all cost me a hell of a lot less than if I’d listened to the others and had it amputated. Vets don’t get much better than dr Becker.

My dog Sissy is an 11 yr old boxer. Another vet kept telling me that my dog just had arthritis and nothing was wrong. No one could give me any answers or treatment options that would work. I took my dog to Dr Becker and he told me right away what was going on and that she had a torn bicep that was severely damaged and causing her lots of pain. My dog has recovered from surgery and doing much better. Dr Becker is the most honest and caring orthopedic surgeon. He comes highly rated and everyone recommended him and I can see why. He takes extra precautions when operating on seniors and I am so glad I was able to get into him.

Dr Smith did a fantastic job on my Bengal! She had to have surgery on both her rear legs for luxating patellas, and she was walking normal only 10 days post surgery! She’s so happy now. And I’m grateful for the awesome job. It was also nice to meet him face to face prior to surgery, made me feel more comfortable and confident sending her in there. I’m super happy with the skills and how nice everyone was that I came in contact with.

Dr. Becker called me back On a Saturday to let me know he could get my puppy that just broke her leg in as soon a Monday morning! He had a VERY booked schedule and still found time to get us taken care of. He was absolutely FANTASTIC! He got my little Sophie in for a surgery that Monday and fixed up her broken leg for a very good price and timely fashion! You can tell he cares very deeply about his clients. He will be the only vet I will recommend and go to for a broken leg or anything of that nature. Thank you so much Dr. Becker! Cameron&Raegan.
