We were referred to VOS by an emergency vet clinic. I was able to book a "work in" appointment for the following day at a considerable charge for the local office. However, my primary vet suggested, if I was willing to travel to ty to get into the Nashville office. When I called again, I found out there was an opening at the Murfreesboro office, and I booked it. I am so glad we chose to travel for this appointment. Dr Huskey was amazing as was Judy. Dr Huskey was very thorough in explaining to us what was going on and our options for treatment. I never felt like we were pushed to make a quick decision for an expensive treatment. We were told an MRI would be best to determine the root cause of inflammation of our dog's optic nerve. Judy went above and beyond in assisting us with possible locations to have this done and with getting a price estimate from a difficult office for us which helped us narrow down our choices and making the MRI much more attainable. We walked in expecting the worse outcome for our precious Iggy but walked out feeling hopeful, all due to Dr Huskey and Judy!

We understand that your pet's vision is crucial to their quality of life, and our experienced team is committed to providing the highest level of expertise and compassionate service for a wide range of ocular conditions. While our primary focus is on ophthalmology, we operate as a specialized Pet Hospital, offering advanced diagnostics, medical treatments, and surgical interventions for various eye diseases and injuries in animals.
At Veterinary Ophthalmology Services, our environment is designed to be welcoming and efficient, catering to the specific needs of pets with eye conditions and their owners. While the reviews don't explicitly detail the physical environment of the Nashville office, the positive feedback regarding the staff and the thoroughness of the examinations suggests a professional and well-organized setting. We strive to create a calm and reassuring atmosphere for your pet, understanding that specialized veterinary visits can sometimes be a source of anxiety. Our team is trained to handle animals with care and patience, ensuring a comfortable experience during examinations and treatments.
Our core service at Veterinary Ophthalmology Services is the provision of specialized veterinary ophthalmology. This encompasses a wide array of diagnostic and treatment modalities for various eye conditions affecting dogs, cats, and other animal species. Our experienced veterinary ophthalmologists are skilled in diagnosing and managing conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, corneal ulcers, dry eye, eyelid abnormalities (like entropion, as mentioned in a review), retinal diseases, and ocular inflammation. We utilize advanced diagnostic equipment to thoroughly evaluate your pet's eyes, which may include slit-lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry (measuring eye pressure), ophthalmoscopy (examining the back of the eye), and other specialized tests as needed.
Based on the reviews, a key feature of Veterinary Ophthalmology Services is the thorough and informative approach taken by our veterinary professionals. Dr. Huskey, specifically mentioned in a review, is praised for her detailed explanations of the pet's condition and the available treatment options. This commitment to clear communication ensures that pet owners are fully informed and can make confident decisions about their animal's care. We believe in a collaborative approach, working closely with you and your primary veterinarian to achieve the best possible outcome for your pet's vision.
Surgical intervention is a significant aspect of the services offered at Veterinary Ophthalmology Services, particularly for conditions like entropion, where the eyelids turn inward and irritate the eye. The successful surgical outcomes for two kittens with entropion, as described in a review, highlight the expertise of our surgeons and the positive impact of timely intervention on a pet's comfort and long-term eye health. Our surgical suite is equipped with the necessary advanced instrumentation to perform delicate ocular procedures with precision and care.
Another notable feature of Veterinary Ophthalmology Services is the exceptional support provided by our staff. Judy, mentioned in a review, is commended for going above and beyond in assisting a pet owner with arranging an MRI at an external facility. This demonstrates our commitment to supporting our clients throughout the entire diagnostic and treatment process, even when it involves coordination with other veterinary specialists or facilities. We understand that navigating complex medical situations can be stressful, and our team is dedicated to providing guidance and assistance every step of the way.
The willingness of Veterinary Ophthalmology Services to accommodate "work-in" appointments, as mentioned in one review, indicates a commitment to addressing urgent eye concerns in a timely manner. While the review notes a "considerable charge" for such appointments at a local office (potentially a different location within the VOS network), it also highlights the benefit of exploring options at other VOS locations, such as the Murfreesboro office, to find more suitable appointment availability. This suggests that VOS has a network of locations that may offer varying appointment schedules and potentially different pricing structures for urgent visits.
The positive outcomes reported by pet owners whose animals have been treated at Veterinary Ophthalmology Services underscore the effectiveness of our specialized care. The hopeful feeling expressed by the owner of a dog with optic nerve inflammation, thanks to Dr. Huskey's thoroughness and Judy's assistance, speaks volumes about the quality of service and the positive impact on both the pet and the owner. Similarly, the successful surgical correction of entropion in two kittens demonstrates the tangible benefits of our ophthalmologic expertise.

Apr 10, 2025 · Michelle LongwithBoth of my Mainecoone kittens had entropion that required surgery. The little girl (first pic) had it worse in both eyes and the big boy (second pic) only had issues with the right eye. Both of the pictures have a before, right after, and now all healed up! A few months after each was done and their eyes are almost totally healed. From the front desk administrator, to the vet techs to the vet, everyone is so kind and thorough!
Jan 25, 2025 · Jamie BarahonaWe had an amazing experience with our dog. Dr. Huskey was wonderful at diagnosing and doing surgery as well. We highly recommend this practice. The staff is wonderful and very helpful.
Mar 28, 2025 · Kristen FinneyMy sweet boy Charlie had a fantastic visit at VOS! The service was amazing and we learned so much about doggie eye health. Charlie had a few tests done but he did so well thanks to a caring and professional staff. He left with a cone on but was still smiling! Safe to say he stole lots of hearts that day too. Thanks VOS!
Aug 10, 2024 · Luisa GomezI am at a loss with this establishment and the doctor. I brought my 5 year old dog to have cataract surgery. I was told he was the perfect candidate. After surgery Dexter was very disoriented and vomited for days. I brought him back the next day for his post follow up surgery visit. The doctor examined his eyes In front of me, checked his pressures, told me everything looked great, his pressures were in a good range and even his Inflammation was very minimal. He then took my dog back to give him an injection for the nausea and to administer eye drops. He came back in the room ghost white without my dog and told me he accidentally ruptured my dogs sutures in his left eye and he will need to go back into surgery immediately. The following days have been a living hell. I have brought my dog back 4 different times to have his pressure checked and prior to the doctors mistake they were checking pressures in front of me, now they do it privately. I am being told now that my dog has glaucoma in BOTH eyes from the surgery and he will need another very expensive surgery to prolong it, however prior to doctor rupturing his sutures everything was fine . I then asked about the surgery obviously very frustrated and upset and asked doctor if he would work with me financially if going a third surgery was the route I was to choose, and he looked at me and had the audacity to tell me I gave you a free surgery yesterday. Excuse me you gave me a free surgery to fix the mistake that you created!? Which in return led to my dog being worse now then before he was in his care! I would take your dog anywhere other then this place! If I knew glaucoma was a risk other then the tiny print on the consent form and it was verbalized to me I would of just chose to let him be and let him go blind naturally without pain! Now he will go blind, be in pain and I paid $7500 for my dog to be worse off! This facility only cares about your money and not your animal! I hope they have a good malpractice attorney because I will be going after them for every dollar I spent trying to help my pup and then some for their negligence. These people are compassion less and care more about swiping your credit card then they do helping your pet. Please be aware! I will be getting a second opinion and lawyering up.
