I can’t speak highly enough of the two woman that helped me and my little kitty Deedee. They were kind, compassionate, and understanding in a very difficult moment of having to say goodbye to my fur baby. Not only did they give me as much time as I needed with her but you could tell they truly cared. I was able to be by her side every step of the way, and hold her while she passed. When I had to pick up her ashes I was given a bag with a card (see pictures) and it was all very tasteful and respectful. I’m in gratitude to everyone who works at this location.

Welcome to Veterinary Emergency Group

Introducing Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG), a dedicated and crucial member of the Pet Hospital platform category, located at 980 Camino De La Reina ste c in San Diego, CA 92108, USA. As an emergency-focused veterinary care provider, VEG distinguishes itself by offering round-the-clock availability to address critical and urgent medical needs for your beloved animal companions. Unlike general practice veterinary clinics with scheduled appointments, VEG operates as a 24/7 emergency pet hospital, ensuring that expert care is accessible whenever a pet faces a sudden illness or injury, day or night, weekends, and holidays. This constant availability provides immense peace of mind for pet owners in the San Diego area, knowing that a dedicated team of veterinary professionals is always ready to provide immediate attention when it matters most.

While the provided customer reviews primarily focus on the exceptional care and service provided during critical situations, they offer valuable insights into the environment and operational ethos of Veterinary Emergency Group. The mention of a "team at VEG" being "stupendous at attending to the needs" of a Great Dane with GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus, a life-threatening condition) suggests a well-organized and efficient facility capable of handling complex and time-sensitive medical emergencies. The fact that VEG was the only clinic in central San Diego willing to take the dog for surgery that night underscores their commitment to emergency care and their readiness to handle critical cases that other clinics might not be equipped for after hours. The description of an "all hands on deck" approach upon arrival, with multiple vet techs and veterinarians working in surgery, paints a picture of a dedicated and well-staffed emergency facility prepared to mobilize quickly and effectively. This level of immediate and coordinated response is a hallmark of a high-quality emergency pet hospital.

Furthermore, the deeply compassionate care provided during a difficult end-of-life situation speaks volumes about the overall environment at VEG. The reviewer who had to say goodbye to their kitten Deedee emphasized the kindness, compassion, and understanding shown by the two women who assisted them. The fact that they were given as much time as needed with their pet and were able to be by her side every step of the way highlights a patient-centered and empathetic approach, even in emotionally challenging circumstances. The thoughtful gesture of a bag with a card when picking up Deedee's ashes further suggests a respectful and caring environment that acknowledges the profound bond between pets and their owners. These experiences indicate that while VEG specializes in emergency care, they also prioritize emotional support and a humane approach.

The primary service offered by Veterinary Emergency Group is, as their name suggests, emergency veterinary care. This encompasses a wide range of critical medical and surgical interventions required when a pet experiences a sudden and serious health issue. Based on the reviews, their services include emergency surgery, as demonstrated by the successful handling of the Great Dane's GDV. They are also equipped to provide compassionate end-of-life care, ensuring that pet owners can say goodbye to their beloved animals with dignity and support. The availability of on-site laboratory services is implied by the mention of lab work being done for the sick kitten, which is crucial for rapid diagnosis in emergency situations. It is reasonable to assume that VEG also offers advanced monitoring and critical care services for pets with life-threatening conditions, utilizing specialized equipment and a highly trained team to provide continuous support.

A key feature of Veterinary Emergency Group is their 24/7 availability. This ensures that pet owners have access to emergency veterinary expertise at any time, without needing to wait for regular clinic hours. Their willingness to take on a critical surgical case late at night when other clinics were not available highlights this crucial feature. Another significant feature is the apparent level of staffing and coordination, allowing for a rapid and comprehensive response to emergencies. The "all hands on deck" approach described in one review indicates a team-oriented environment where multiple professionals work together efficiently to provide the best possible care. Moreover, the emphasis on compassion and emotional support during difficult times sets VEG apart as an emergency facility that not only addresses the medical needs of pets but also the emotional needs of their owners.

While the second review mentions that the cost of the emergency surgery was "a pretty penny," the reviewer also stated it was "well worth it" and highly recommends VEG. This suggests transparency regarding the cost of emergency services, which are often more expensive due to the immediate and intensive nature of the care provided. It also indicates that clients perceive the value of the life-saving interventions and the quality of care received as justifying the expense. Currently, the provided information does not include any specific promotional offers or discounts. Emergency veterinary care typically operates on a fee-for-service basis due to the unpredictable and immediate nature of the services required. Local users facing a pet emergency are primarily concerned with immediate and expert care rather than promotional offers. However, it is always advisable to inquire about payment options and any potential financial assistance programs that may be available.

In conclusion, Veterinary Emergency Group in San Diego stands out as a vital resource for local pet owners seeking immediate and expert care during critical health situations. Operating as a 24/7 emergency pet hospital, VEG offers a high level of readiness, a well-coordinated team, and the capacity to handle complex medical and surgical emergencies. The testimonials highlight not only their medical expertise but also their profound compassion and commitment to supporting both pets and their owners during incredibly challenging times. While emergency care can be costly, the experiences shared by VEG's clients underscore the value of their prompt, professional, and empathetic service. For local users facing a pet emergency, Veterinary Emergency Group provides a reassuring option for immediate and comprehensive care.

The team at VEG was stupendous at attending to the needs of my Great Dane with GDV. I called around everywhere central San Diego and no one except for them were willing to take my boy for surgery that night. It was “all hands on deck” as soon as we got there. He had multiple vet techs and veterinarians working in surgery. I felt so confident he was going to be fine that I truly wasn’t worried. Everyone at the hospital truly cares about their clients and it’s comforting to see. It did cost a pretty penny, but well worth it! I can’t recommend them enough!

I would love to thank Dr. Cain and her efforts in trying to save our bunny who was in critical condition. She is very knowledgeable and showed much care. I also like to thank all the nurses who helped Oreo and kept her comfortable. Everyone was quick to assist Oreo. I would like to thank the male nurse who was monitoring her for many hours and keeping her comfortable. Unfortunately our Oreo passed away 8 hrs later. We are thankful that we were able to take her home and have more time with her before she passed. We kept her comfortable and warm. Giving her love and kisses before she passed. We deeply miss Oreo and thankful that Dr. Cain and her nurses did everything they could to save Oreos life. The staff there have a great passion in taking care of pets! Here are some photos I like to share of our bunny Oreo. She was 9 and lived a full happy life ❤️

A totally different experience in veterinary care. We appreciated the quick service and the friendly staff. They helped to make a difficult experience bearable, and it was nice to be able to be with our cat throughout the whole process. CreamPuff enjoyed the private room so that he didn’t have to worry about all the dogs that were there (it was late and there was space open so it made it easier to be removed from the open room). P.S. CreamPuff apologizes for leaving so much white fur on the black chair, but it was so comfortable that he had to sit on it…

This past week has been one of the hardest my boyfriend and I have ever faced. Our precious Nala was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor, and during such an emotional, scary, and uncertain time, the team at VEG provided us with unwavering support and care, making this heartbreaking transition as smooth as possible. A special thank you to Dr. Chuck Kalb—his compassion and dedication were truly evident. He didn’t just offer medical advice; he spoke to us as if Nala were his own, guiding us with empathy and honesty. Dr. Sarah, thank you for walking us through every step of the ultrasound with such patience while carefully managing Nala’s sedation. Karen D, your kindness and empathy meant the world to us—you went above and beyond to ensure we were as comfortable as possible. And Josh, your constant check-ins and positivity were a much-needed light during this difficult time. We are beyond grateful to the entire VEG team for turning an overwhelming situation into one that felt more manageable. It’s clear that everyone here genuinely cares about the well-being of animals, far beyond just a job. I truly cannot recommend them enough—your pet will be in the best hands with this incredible team. Our precious Nala passed peacefully on March 30. He is pain-free now, and I know he’s having the best time with unlimited snacks and belly rubs.
