This isn't our normal vet, but when we experienced an emergency with our 10 year old Loki, we had to rush him to this facility. It was critical and the staff immediately got to work assessing him when we carried him in. They found that he was not going to make it. They did not try to get us to pay for a bunch of testing knowing that the outcome wouldn't change. Everyone that interacted with us was incredibly kind and sympathetic. It was only my adult son and myself. The staff took us into a private room and gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. When it was time, they explained every step and stayed with us through the end. When it was over, they stayed with our boy while we left and promised he wouldn't be alone. They made a very hard decision and process as gentle as possible for my son and I. I cannot say enough positive things about how we were treated in one of the hardest times of our lives. I would strong recommend taking your animal here in an emergency. Thank you all again for the compassion and kindness you showed us and our dog.

Located at 196 Boston Tpke Suite 1, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, USA, VEG is designed to provide immediate and critical medical attention to animals when their regular veterinarian's office is closed or when an unforeseen emergency strikes. This specialized "Pet Hospital" prioritizes rapid assessment, decisive action, and compassionate support during the most stressful times for pets and their families.

VEG can be reached promptly via phone at (508) 653-4700 or mobile at +1 508-653-4700. The very nature of an emergency veterinary group means that their availability is paramount, often operating 24/7 or during extended hours to ensure that urgent care is always at hand. Their focus is not on routine check-ups or vaccinations, but on providing life-saving interventions and stabilizing pets in critical condition.

The environment at Veterinary Emergency Group, as depicted by deeply personal customer experiences, is one characterized by immediate action, profound empathy, and a calm, reassuring atmosphere despite the inherent stress of emergencies. Upon arrival, the staff is described as immediately getting "to work assessing him when we carried him in," indicating a swift and efficient intake process that understands the urgency of the situation. Even in the most heartbreaking circumstances, such as when a pet is not going to make it, the clinic provides a private, supportive space. The staff's willingness to "stayed with our boy while we left and promised he wouldn't be alone" speaks volumes about their commitment to the pet's comfort and dignity, even after the owners have departed. This level of compassionate care extends to making "what could have been a stressful time feel calm and reassuring," as noted by a client whose dog delivered puppies at the facility. The environment is clearly designed to be both clinically effective and emotionally supportive, offering solace during highly vulnerable moments.

The services offered by the Veterinary Emergency Group, as a dedicated emergency "Pet Hospital," are tailored to address critical and urgent medical needs. While a full list of services isn't explicitly provided, the customer testimonials give strong indications of their core offerings:

  • Critical Care and Monitoring: For pets requiring intensive care, including continuous monitoring, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, and medication administration.
  • Emergency Diagnostics: Rapid access to diagnostic tools such as radiography (X-rays), ultrasonography, and in-house laboratory testing to quickly identify the cause and extent of an emergency. • Obstetrics and Delivery Assistance: As evidenced by the successful delivery of Zoey and her puppies, they provide expert care for birthing animals, including managing complications.
  • Toxin Ingestion Treatment: Addressing cases where pets have ingested harmful substances.
  • Trauma Care: Treating injuries resulting from accidents, falls, or animal attacks.

Several features distinguish the Veterinary Emergency Group within the "Pet Hospital" landscape. Perhaps the most prominent is their **unwavering compassion and empathy**. This is highlighted repeatedly by clients who describe the staff as "incredibly kind and sympathetic," and "professional, compassionate, and incredibly supportive." During times of extreme distress, such as facing a pet's imminent passing, this human touch becomes paramount. The act of staying with the family through euthanasia and promising the pet wouldn't be alone afterwards demonstrates an extraordinary level of care that goes far beyond medical treatment, focusing on emotional support for grieving owners.

Another crucial feature is their **immediate and decisive response**. When a pet is carried in critically ill, the staff immediately gets to work, indicating an efficient and well-trained team prepared for high-stakes situations. This rapid assessment and action are critical for improving outcomes in emergencies.

The **professionalism and expertise** of the entire team are also strongly featured. Both testimonials praise the staff as "amazing—professional" and providing "kindness and expertise." This professionalism is coupled with a transparent approach, as demonstrated by their decision not to perform unnecessary tests when the outcome was clear, showcasing ethical practice and consideration for the pet owner's emotional and financial burden.

Furthermore, VEG's ability to handle a range of urgent cases, from critical illness and end-of-life care to joyous events like animal deliveries, demonstrates their **versatility and comprehensive emergency capabilities**. This breadth of service within an emergency setting is a significant asset for the community.

From a promotional standpoint, the most compelling advertisements for the Veterinary Emergency Group are the raw, emotional, and profoundly positive testimonials from their clients. The strong recommendation to "strong recommend taking your animal here in an emergency" speaks directly to their effectiveness and trustworthiness during critical moments. Phrases like "cannot say enough positive things about how we were treated in one of the hardest times of our lives" and "highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care!" serve as powerful endorsements. These firsthand accounts effectively convey the clinic's core values: immediate, expert care delivered with an unparalleled level of compassion and support. The focus on the staff's kindness and empathy during both tragic and celebratory events highlights their ability to manage a full spectrum of emotional and medical scenarios with grace and professionalism, positioning them as the go-to "Pet Hospital" for urgent and emergency situations in the Shrewsbury area.

We had a wonderful experience with the entire team during our dog Zoey’s delivery. Everyone involved in her care was amazing—professional, compassionate, and incredibly supportive. From the moment I made my initial call at 10:30 p.m., the team was absolutely amazing. My cat Luna was having a respiratory emergency and struggling to breathe. The woman on the phone calmly instructed me to get her to the nearest emergency vet—and told me it looked like they were the closest, assuring me she’d inform the team we were on our way. Although I lived half an hour away, as soon as I arrived, the staff welcomed me at the door and immediately brought Luna to the back. Within seconds, the medical team was attending to her. Their urgency, compassion, and professionalism were evident from the start. They made sure Luna was no longer in respiratory distress before discussing finances, which I truly appreciated. Their priority was her health and well-being, not the cost. I felt the pricing for their emergency services was fair, especially considering the level of care and attention provided. Thank you all so much for your excellent and compassionate service. You made a frightening experience far more manageable, and I’m deeply grateful for the way you cared for Luna and every other animal that night!

I was so impressed by our entire experience at VEG! First, they're open 24 hours a day, which any pet parent knows is key (Fido always conveniently waits until non-business hours for a crisis). The facility was super easy to find, it's right on Rt. 9 and it has tons of parking. The facility itself is really nice and modern - they have an open concept treatment area with rooms for reactive/anxious pets. Every single staff member we interacted with (including the receptionists) were so kind and compassionate - you can tell how how much these folks care about their patients! We were immediately taken in to be seen, and the process was very quick & efficient. One thing I really liked that set them apart was the fact that they send you an itemized bill via text; they'll work with you to come up with a specific treatment plan. It was a very collaborative experience, as opposed to most vets that basically tell you how it's going to be and stick you with a giant bill. The prices were also incredibly reasonable! It's been a few days and my pup is doing great after a really scary experience! I'm so grateful for VEG, they are now my go-to emergency vet. I can't recommend them more highly!

I was so impressed with this clinic! Greeted at the door, brought into the clinic and my beloved cat dealt with before they even asked for my info! Every single staff member was kind, caring, friendly and professional. I felt heard and never pressured to "do all the tests" to rack up a huge bill. They understood a 20 year old cat was an old lady. ( if your reading this VEG, Snickers is 20, not 16! I was so upset could not remember) they have a person whom at a hotel you would call hospitality. She is the absolute sweetest, offering beverages, snacks and most of all comfort and a smile to all the stressed and sad pet owners. If you need emergency care or care for your pet, this is the place to go! They even refunded some of my money since I would be getting her med online, I had no idea lots of places, sadly would not tell you unless you told them. Honest place in this day and age, another huge plus!!
