Today I received a card from the staff giving me sympathy for the loss of my sweet midnight. Even though we had to make a very difficult decision we were happy with the treatment and the consideration from the staff. They were all very nice and understanding throughout this moment and gave us time to be with her before and after the procedure. Thank you so much for treating us with respect and for making this process easier for us.

They took my pup in and tried their best to save him, but it was too late. They were really kind, despite how tragic everything went down. Dr. was a Dr I had known at another vet practice, so I felt he was in good hands, and she would do what she could. Emergency visits are expensive, and this was quite a hit to my pocketbook, but it was worth it to try. Would recommend this place.

I can’t say enough positive things about VEC Oakland. I brought my cat Nova in after suspecting she had ingested a craft string. She was profusely vomiting and hadn’t eaten in several days. When I brought her in, they took her back immediately to assess her. During the same visit, Nova received an X-ray and the string was surgically removed. They saved her life! After a day of recovery, she was discharged. I received a detailed explanation of her medications and how to administer them, as well as aftercare instructions. Dr. Benbassat and Becca were amazing. They were so sensitive to our needs and showed us so much kindness. Everyone was so incredibly kind and patient. Nova truly received the best care possible. I’m so very grateful for VEC and can’t recommend them enough!

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! I brought my dog Luna to this emergency pet hospital because she was vomiting and had blood in her stool. While she was still playful and energetic, I wanted to make sure she was okay. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, a vet tech came in—not to check on Luna, but to give me an itemized list of charges before a vet had even seen her! They insisted an X-ray was necessary, and without hesitation, I agreed, trusting they would take good care of her. Huge mistake. I could hear Luna crying and screaming in the back as they tried to “calm her” for the X-ray. My dog has NEVER been aggressive at any vet visits before. Later, a different vet tech brought Luna back, saying they couldn’t do anything because she was too stressed for the X-ray. We sat in the exam room for another 45 minutes, only to leave without any care as I had already booked a vet appointment for the next day. When I went to the front desk to inform them I wouldn’t be proceeding with any tests, a vet tech stormed in aggressively, accusing me of refusing service and claiming they had already drawn blood—something I had no clue had even been done! Confused, I asked for an itemized bill and the supposed bloodwork, only to find out the charges exceeded $600. When I checked Luna’s neck, where they said they had taken blood, there was no sign of any alcohol or puncture. It became clear to me they were making false claims to pad the bill. When I questioned them about the bloodwork, another tech aggressively confirmed it, but oddly, they were able to provide it almost immediately after telling me it would take 15 minutes! Things escalated further when another vet tech who try taking Luna’s x-ray started questioning whether Luna’s shots were up to date since she was scratched on her arm, even asking which vet I was going to tomorrow. When I declined to provide that information, she became visibly irritated and made a veiled threat, suggesting she could “make some calls” to take care of the situation—basically threatening to report Luna as aggressive! By then, the manager had to step in to de-escalate the situation. I was still quoted $600 even after agreeing with the manager to only pay for the visit. One of the vet techs even tried to call the cops on me after realizing they had crossed the line with their unprofessional behavior and threats. This place doesn’t care about your pet; they only care about draining your wallet. Fraudulent, aggressive, and completely untrustworthy. I wouldn’t trust them with Luna’s life, and you shouldn’t either!

I took my almost three month old puppy here for what turned out to be an upper respiratory infection and they took such amazing care of her. They made sure that I understood all the instructions and ensured that I knew what to expect as she recovers. I hope you never have to use an emergency vet, but if you do, go the VEC in Oakland. Seriously, you guys are amazing. Thank you again. She couldn’t stay awake for her photo shoot. Sorry.
