Mar 04, 2025 路 Patricia SotoThank you so much for taking care of Finn! I came to Vet Dental Specialties because my dog had chipped a tooth. I had a great experience both at the consultation appointment and today for the procedure. Dr. Furman explained the issue with the tooth and the game plan in detail. He took his time and answered all of my questions, I never felt rushed. They only do one procedure at a time so I dropped my dog off at 8am, picked up by 10am, and he was at home resting by 10:30am. I was so happy that he didn鈥檛 have to spend all day there. The receptionists and technician were so nice and helpful and Finn loved everyone he met there (as you can see in the pic, he was very concerned when any of his new friends left the room). I would highly recommend them to anyone!
Mar 28, 2023 路 Savannah McCorkle$174 for checkup and over $2000 for a basic teeth cleaning is INSANE. I rly hate how these clinics just arent up front with their standard costs. Trap you with the consultation and slap you with the cost after the fact. Why dont you guys just let the customer know before they waste $174 on a cursory look over so they can determine if $2000 for a cleaning is reasonable.
Mar 16, 2025 路 NikiI am writing this review regarding Dr. Furman and the practice to share some insights from our visit. We were informed by our non-anesthesia dental provider that our dog needed dental extractions and had severe gum disease so we found a specialist to take her too. Dr. Furman told us at the consult about the importance of anesthesia during dental cleanings specifically as it allows him to clean under the gum line, which is not possible in a non-anesthesia cleaning. As a dentist myself, I agreed with him on this and felt it was important for my dog to undergo the risks of anesthesia for that added benefit. We received five slightly different estimates prior to her surgical visit with the office emailing multiple times about their financial policies. These estimates included different pain meds, dental cleaning, X-rays, anesthesia and extractions to name a few. Once my pet was under anesthesia, he came out to review the X-rays with us and his plan of action including that she needed cleaning under the gum line. We agreed because that鈥檚 what we were told at the initial consultation was the main benefit of undergoing general anesthesia. After this recommendation was made for two teeth scaling, we saw the new estimate showing an additional $284.50 with 4 additional codes that were not on any other estimate previously. At the end of the visit, I approached the doctor and told him that from another dentist to a veterinary dentist, how deceitful this action was to claim that an anesthesia dental cleaning involves scaling under the gums when it does not. Only when we were under duress with our dog under anesthesia did the concept, cost and discussion of scaling being separate ever come up. I told him how inappropriate it was that this information was withheld and his response was well if you didn鈥檛 want to pay why did you agree to it. For those looking for general cost estimates, anesthesia, pain meds, dental exam, X-rays and cleaning is close to $1500 (plus an additional $450 for consult and blood tests). 15 non molar extractions was about $1200. We spent approximately $3200 total I give them a 1 star for lack of transparency and compassion, and advise others to realize that having your pet undergo an anesthetic cleaning does not include cleaning under the gums as is claimed.
Sep 13, 2024 路 Justine HI cannot say enough positive things about the entire team and our experience at VDS. We initially visited them in Ventura last year when my dog had a discolored canine tooth which turned out to need a root canal. He鈥檚 a big guy with a big fear of the vet so getting him care is stressful for all of us as it is but VDS made it such a smooth process. A year later in a freak collision, he broke that same tooth. Unfortunately the surgeon who we first saw is no longer at the practice but we were seen by Dr. Niemec who provided us with all of the information we needed to know what to expect and again made the entire situation feel manageable. We ended up needing an earlier procedure date so we made the drive down to Irvine. We met Dr. Hernandez for the first time the day of surgery. Yet another VDS surgeon who went above and beyond for our boy (and us). He made sure we felt comfortable with every step and provided education and insight on the procedure. Every single visit we鈥檝e been met with respect, reassurance, knowledge and results. Again, vet visits of any kind aren鈥檛 an easy thing for our dog but the team has taken the time to really learn about his needs and create an environment where he feels as safe and comfortable as possible, easing all of our worries. I can鈥檛 imagine leaving him in better hands. Thank you Dr. Hernandez, Dr. Niemec, Michele & staff.
