I was so hopeful when someone recommended this vet. We went in for our first visit where my dog received acupuncture, and we went home with some herbs. The next day I noticed an open wound on my dog's face and monitored it for a few days as it didn't seem to bother him and appeared to be scabbing over. He must have scratched it open which led to an infection. I emailed the vet (on a Thursday morning which apparently are one of their very few days open) letting them know of the situation and the severity of it. My dog's face was now infected, and he spent the night crying. I received an email back that they were closed, and the doctor would get back to me soon. I never heard back from them until it was time for my dogs follow up appointment from the month before! Apparently, my email ended up in the trash. I cannot even begin to express how disappointing this is considering the amount of money they charge! How can you not make a crying dog a priority, let alone having your email end up in the trash....

Welcome to Veterinary Alternatives

Welcome to Veterinary Alternatives, a pet hospital located at 1535 Blakeley Rd, East Aurora, NY 14052, USA. Situated within the Pet Hospital category, Veterinary Alternatives distinguishes itself by offering a range of holistic and alternative veterinary therapies for your beloved animal companions. You can reach them at (716) 655-6153 or their mobile number +1 716-655-6153.

Veterinary Alternatives presents itself as a proactive choice for pet owners seeking alternative and complementary approaches to animal health. According to one customer, Dr. Keonig at Veterinary Alternatives is known for staying up-to-date with various healing modalities and takes the time to thoroughly answer pet owners' questions. This suggests a commitment to informed and patient-centered care, where alternative treatments are thoughtfully considered and explained.

The services offered at Veterinary Alternatives extend beyond conventional veterinary medicine, focusing on holistic well-being. Based on customer experiences, these services include:

  • Acupuncture: A traditional Chinese medicine technique involving the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing and relieve pain. One customer mentioned their dog receiving acupuncture during their visit.
  • Herbal Remedies: The use of plant-based medicines to address various health concerns in pets. A customer reported going home with herbs after their dog's appointment.
  • Holistic Healing Modalities: Dr. Keonig is described as being knowledgeable about and utilizing different alternative healing methods, suggesting a broader approach to pet care beyond traditional pharmaceuticals and surgery.
  • Proactive Care: One reviewer recommends visiting Veterinary Alternatives before a crisis arises, implying a focus on preventative and wellness-oriented care.

One customer's experience highlights the importance of clear communication and responsiveness in any veterinary practice. This pet owner brought their dog in for acupuncture and received herbal remedies. Subsequently, the dog developed an infected wound. The owner's attempt to contact Veterinary Alternatives via email on a Thursday morning (reportedly one of their limited open days) did not receive a timely response, with the email allegedly ending up in the trash. The lack of follow-up until the scheduled follow-up appointment a month later was a significant point of disappointment for this customer, especially considering the fees charged. This review raises concerns about the accessibility of the clinic, particularly outside of their regular hours, and the reliability of their communication systems in urgent situations.

Features of Veterinary Alternatives, based on the available reviews, include:

  • Focus on Alternative Therapies: Offering acupuncture and herbal remedies as part of their treatment options.
  • Knowledgeable Practitioner: Dr. Keonig is described as staying updated on different healing modalities.
  • Patient-Centered Approach: Dr. Keonig is noted for taking time to answer questions.
  • Potential for Proactive Care: Encouraging pet owners to seek their services for preventative health measures.

However, it is crucial to also consider the reported negative experience, which points to potential limitations in their availability and communication. The fact that the clinic may have limited operating days could impact accessibility for pet owners, especially in urgent situations. The alleged mishandling of an email detailing a pet's worsening condition and the lack of timely follow-up are significant concerns regarding their client communication protocols.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. However, the emphasis on alternative therapies and Dr. Keonig's expertise could be seen as a unique selling point for pet owners interested in holistic approaches. The recommendation to seek proactive care suggests that Veterinary Alternatives may offer wellness packages or consultations focused on preventative health, though this is not explicitly stated.

For local users in East Aurora, NY, and surrounding areas, Veterinary Alternatives presents an option for those interested in exploring acupuncture, herbal remedies, and other holistic veterinary treatments for their pets. The positive feedback regarding Dr. Keonig's knowledge and patient interaction suggests a practitioner who is engaged and willing to discuss alternative approaches. However, potential clients should be aware of the reported limitations in the clinic's availability and the concerns raised about communication, particularly in urgent situations.

If you are considering Veterinary Alternatives for your pet's care, it may be beneficial to inquire directly about their operating hours, emergency protocols, and communication methods to ensure they align with your needs and expectations. While the holistic services offered may be appealing, a comprehensive understanding of their accessibility and responsiveness is essential for making an informed decision about your pet's healthcare provider.

In conclusion, Veterinary Alternatives offers a specialized approach to pet care through alternative therapies like acupuncture and herbal remedies, with a practitioner described as knowledgeable and communicative. However, potential clients should also consider the reported negative experience concerning communication and accessibility to ensure that this pet hospital meets their individual needs and provides the level of responsiveness expected in veterinary care. Further direct inquiry with Veterinary Alternatives is recommended to gather complete information about their services, environment, and operational procedures.

Dr Koenig spends a lot of time with our pets. Our Rottie, Archer, gets his nails clipped....takes about 20 minutes the way Dr. sculptures them and his constant pulling away. She is so patient and determined. Then he gets an adjustment, acupuncture and laser. This has been very helpful for him as he’s a big boy with some mobility issues. Right now we are dealing with a possibly malignant neck issue. Dr. Koenig has been helping to get more help. We are thankful a friend recommended her years ago.
