Welcome to Vetco Vaccination Clinic
For pet owners in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, seeking a potentially more affordable option for pet vaccinations, Vetco Vaccination Clinic operates within the Petco store located at 3380 124th Ave NW. As a "Hospital" specializing in vaccinations, Vetco offers a limited range of preventative care services.
One customer described their experience as a "minute vet" visit that felt like a "whole vet" exam and treatment, praising the kindness and compassion of the professionals. This suggests that, at least in some instances, pet owners can expect a thorough and caring approach during their pet's vaccination appointment.
However, another review raises significant concerns regarding the advice provided by a Vetco worker. This reviewer, with a strong background in veterinary technology and clinical care, overheard a conversation with a dog owner where questionable information was given about heartworm testing and prevention. The Vetco worker reportedly stated that a heartworm test would indicate if a pet had the "gene" for heartworm (which is scientifically inaccurate as heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes, not genetics) and did not emphasize year-round preventative use. Additionally, the reviewer noted that the worker offered to email a prescription for heartworm prevention, which is allegedly not permitted by the Minnesota Veterinary Board of Medicine.
This second review strongly recommends that pet owners consult with their primary veterinarian and their staff for advice on matters beyond vaccinations. While acknowledging that Vetco's vaccine prices might be lower, the reviewer advises caution regarding accepting other medical advice from Vetco and suggests relying on the expertise of a full-service veterinary practice for comprehensive pet care.
Based on this limited information, Vetco Vaccination Clinic in Coon Rapids appears to offer a convenient and potentially cost-effective option for routine pet vaccinations. However, it is crucial for pet owners to be aware of the potential for receiving inaccurate or incomplete medical advice and to prioritize consultation with their regular veterinarian for comprehensive health management and treatment decisions. The environment is within a retail pet store setting, which may differ significantly from a traditional veterinary hospital.
If you are interested in getting your pet vaccinated at Vetco in Coon Rapids, you can visit their location within Petco at 3380 124th Ave NW or call (763) 576-9100 or +1 763-576-9100 for more information on their vaccination services and pricing. However, for broader health concerns and advice, consulting with a full-service veterinary hospital is recommended.

Jun 18, 2024 · Cat meI was shopping at Petco and was overhearing some conversations happening between a Vetco worker and a dog owner. As a person with a 4-year degree in veterinary technology and 1/3 of the way through a master's program in veterinary clinical care, I was thoroughly concerned with the advice given. This client was told they did not need a heartworm test, which is recommended yearly. The client then said they were told to do the test before starting preventatives, which is great. The worker then said "yes you should do the test then since it will tell if your pet already has heartworm or has the gene for it." There is no such thing as a gene for heartworm. It is transmitted by infected mosquitos. It is also recommended to use preventatives year-round, which was not conveyed to this client. Another thing that really irritated me was that the worker said they would email a prescription of heartworm prevention to the client. This is not allowed by the Minnesota Veterinary Board of Medicine. If they are not following this rule, are they following other rules? I recommend getting advice from your veterinarian and their staff. I understand financial concerns and these vaccines are cheaper. If you want to get vaccines here, I would recommend not taking their advice on other things and talk directly to your primary vet.
