I took my older cat here around November 2024 because he hadn’t had a check up in years. I waited three hours to be seen. The reception was apologetic and even seemed embarrassed. I finally got a room after saying I was going to leave because my cat was getting very upset sitting in the crate that long. They put me in a room that was falling apart. The vet and her assistant came in weighed my cat, and told me he was fine. sent me on my way without even doing bloodwork. I went back 6-8months later and my cat had lost half his body weight. They did bloodwork and found that he had hyperthyroidism. I started him on the medication I was given and he was so weak I think it was just too much on his frail little body.. he passed November 2025 I did a lot of research on this and I believe if I wasn’t dismissed at that initial visit with my concerns my fur baby would still be here. And to top it off I called to cancel his follow up and tell them he passed and they never even sent a condolence card. The receptionists were always pleasant but something just doesn’t sit right with me about my experience there and I will not be going back and would not recommend

Welcome to Vet At the Barn

Welcome to Vet At the Barn, a "Pet Hospital" located at 790 Chestnut Ridge Rd in Spring Valley, NY 10977. As a local veterinary care provider operating under the platform category of Pet Hospital, Vet At the Barn aims to serve the pet health needs of the Spring Valley community. The available information regarding Vet At the Barn includes contrasting customer experiences, which potential local users should consider when evaluating this veterinary practice.

Details regarding the environment of Vet At the Barn are limited. One customer review described an examination room as being "falling apart." However, this is a single anecdotal observation and may not be representative of the entire facility. Information regarding the overall cleanliness, organization, waiting areas, and other aspects of the clinic's environment is not available in the provided data. Therefore, an objective introduction to the clinic's ambiance and facilities cannot be provided based solely on the given information.

Similarly, a comprehensive list of services offered at Vet At the Barn is not explicitly provided. Based on the category of "Pet Hospital," it can be inferred that they likely offer a range of veterinary services, which typically include general check-ups, vaccinations, and treatment for illnesses. One positive review mentions the doctors looking into the "root cause" of a pet's allergies and providing suggestions beyond standard protocols, implying a more in-depth approach to certain conditions. However, specific details about surgical capabilities, dental care, diagnostic services (such as laboratory testing and imaging), or preventative care programs are not outlined in the available reviews.

In terms of features, one positive aspect highlighted by a reviewer is the approach of Dr. Cappel and Dr. Binkowski. They are described as professionals who investigate the underlying causes of health issues rather than simply following standard protocols. This suggests a commitment to thoroughness and individualized care. The reviewer also noted that the doctors do not recommend unnecessary repeat visits, prioritizing the pet's well-being over frequent appointments. This patient-centered approach could be considered a positive feature of the practice.

However, another customer reported a negative experience involving a significant delay in being seen for a check-up, a perceived dismissal of initial concerns, and a lack of follow-up or condolence after the pet's subsequent passing. This account raises concerns about the thoroughness of initial examinations and the level of patient communication and support in certain situations. The discrepancy between these two reviews highlights the importance of considering multiple perspectives when evaluating a veterinary practice.

Promotional information for Vet At the Barn is not included in the provided data. There are no mentions of special offers for new clients, discounts on specific services, or any other promotional activities. Therefore, an objective introduction to any current promotions cannot be provided.

One positive review specifically recommends Vet At the Barn for pets experiencing illnesses, citing the positive experience with Dr. Cappel and Dr. Binkowski in diagnosing and managing a dog's allergies. The reviewer praised their professional and caring approach, which earned their trust and confidence. This positive feedback suggests that for certain conditions, particularly those requiring a more investigative approach, Vet At the Barn may provide effective care.

However, the negative review details a concerning experience where an older cat's significant weight loss was not initially investigated with bloodwork, and the subsequent treatment for hyperthyroidism was perceived as too aggressive. This account serves as a cautionary tale and highlights the potential for variability in patient experiences and outcomes.

The mention of pleasant receptionists in both a positive and a negative review suggests that the front-of-house staff is generally courteous. However, the overall experience appears to be significantly influenced by the veterinary care provided and the communication between the veterinary team and pet owners.

Given the contrasting nature of the available reviews, it is crucial for local users to weigh these experiences carefully. The positive review praises the thorough and patient-centered approach of specific doctors, while the negative review raises serious concerns about diagnostic thoroughness and follow-up care. Potential clients may wish to seek additional information, perhaps through online reviews on other platforms or by directly contacting Vet At the Barn to inquire about their services, protocols, and the experience and qualifications of their veterinary team.

In conclusion, Vet At the Barn in Spring Valley, NY, operates as a "Pet Hospital" offering veterinary services. While one positive review highlights a thorough and caring approach by Dr. Cappel and Dr. Binkowski, another review details a negative experience involving diagnostic oversights and a lack of follow-up. Information regarding the clinic's environment is limited. Promotional information is not available. Local users should consider these contrasting accounts and seek further information to make an informed decision about their pet's veterinary care at Vet At the Barn.

Please go to the Vet at the Barn when your furbaby is sick. My dog, Sosuke, has been dealing with itchy skin and ears due to allergies. In the past, we met several doctors and underwent various tests. A few suggested putting him on a pill that does not help him at all. Dr. CAPPEL and  BINKOWSKI are different; They are professionals who look into the root cause and provide the best suggestions instead of just following the protocol. They do not ask you to come back repeatedly if it is not needed. All they care about is helping your furbaby! Their professional and caring approach has earned my trust and confidence. I am amazed by both doctors. Sosuke's skin is much better. Early this year, I decided to cut down on dog food designed for allergies after reading multiple articles and researching each ingredient and what it does for my baby. Please read your dog food's ingredients because it is SO SO SO important. Also spend 15 minuted to study how the manufacture make.. I bet some are beneficial, but most of them lack nutrients.

Danielle does the physical therapy there and she has been amazing with my dog Molly, a 15 year old GSD suffering from mobility issues. We’ve been to 5 sessions and there is definitely improvement in her physical condition. My regular vet commented on it even.

The veterinarians really take the time to evaluate every animal. The care directive is tailored to your animal. No one size fits all or quick fixes. The staff is great too. Everyone is compassionate and accommodating. They never rush you out the door. They can be trusted.

First time happy customer! Very happy with how pleasant, caring and thoughtful each staff member was. From start to finish they made my pup and I feel at ease and I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Capel! If you are more of a holistic approach dog owner, than this is the place to go! They didn’t push unnecessary testing/ vaccines. Also, their pricing was half the price of most veterinary practice’s around! I highly recommend Dr. Capel and her staff at The Vet at the Barn!
