Vernon Woods Animal Hospital

This is our sweet boy Chug. After our vet’s office closed we were in a scramble to find a new office. Our friend suggested Vernon Woods and I am so so grateful they did. We have had appointments with Dr. Lee, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Wen and I can attest that all of three were some of the most compassionate vets I have ever met. Additionally, the entire front office staff including Taylor and Casey, as well as the vet techs, are truly some of the most incredibly kind people I have ever had the joy of coming in contact with. We unfortunately had to make the gut wrenching decision to let our sweet, sweet boy cross the rainbow bridge and be free of pain. While this experience was absolutely devastating, we can say that Dr. Wen along with her staff made the experience as positive as it could be. The care and compassion they show is unmatched and you can rest assured that they have your baby’s best interest at heart. While this is not an experience I wanted to have, I am grateful that we had Vernon Woods there to support us through it. If you are looking for a vet’s office that is compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly full of pet lovers, don’t hesitate to visit Vernon Woods. I am so glad we did.

It was pretty good! With 4 dogs, I have a pretty high standard when it comes to vet offices. Plainly said, I’m picky. But when our old vet stopped practicing full time I had to find a new one for everyone to get their annual vaccines. Our visit was great! We saw Dr. Lee and she was very good with our dogs and thorough. One thing that stood out to me was how organized this hospital is. They very easily got through our appointment with all 4, all of the charges were correct and ready when we checked out, and they even sent a dental estimate over after we only briefly chatted about it. That’s the attention to detail that I want when I’m looking for care, and they’ve got it. Thank you for a good visit!

If I could give this practice and Dr. Lee specifically 0 stars, I would. I was referred to this animal hospital after taking my pup to an evening only emergency vet, in which his care needed to be continued the following day at a daytime vet. I was incredibly emotional having to enter this vet and tell them that my pup has just been diagnosed with chronic kidney failure and you would think Dr. Lee would have some compassion or at least some form of bedside manner when speaking to someone who's actively sobbing while holding a sick pup. However, this was not the case at all. Dr. Lee walked into the exam room and said hello and I responded, with tears in my eyes, hello, at the loudest volume I could get myself to and then Dr. Lee responds again and said "um I said hello" with the nastiest attitude possible and I said I just said hello and she then stated “oh well I couldn’t hear you”. She then proceeds to ask me to put my dog on the table for her to examine him and says okay so what’s been going on and I tell her I gave the staff all of his records and everything I was provided last night about his diagnosis. She then responds with an even worse attitude and says well records can omit certain things so I’m asking you to just tell me everything that’s been going on. At this point, I’m completely flustered by her attitude towards me and am still trying to stop my tears to even find the words to describe “what else has been going on”. She then states that if I want them to treat my dog I need to find the words to say something or I need to find another vet. I then tell her based on her attitude I don’t feel comfortable with her treating my dog at all and she, with no hesitation, says “okay well fine” and walks out the door. I then ask if they can at least remove the catheter out of his arm that was left from the referring vet while she was leaving the room and she says “nope we won’t be doing anything for you” and just walks off. I left out of this establishment feeling extremely disrespected. It’s enough to be dealing with the emotions of finding out your beloved animal is sick but to be treated by so poorly by someone who’s supposed to be a trained professional is extremely disheartening. If you want to be treated like trash in a time of need this is the place for you, otherwise I’d recommend you go somewhere else. And as for Dr. Lee, Virginia Tech College of Veterinary Medicine should be ashamed to have you as an alumni of their school, where I know bedside manners are taught.

Dr. Wen and the whole staff are so friendly, kind and knowledgeable. I take my cats there and highly recommend them. Update February 2025: If you're looking for a vet, you've found a great one here. Quality of care is always there! Staff is courtesy and kind. Fast appointment times with little to no wait. Prompt and thorough follow-ups. Phone calls are answered quickly and returned timely. Clean facility with no smell. Reasonable prices, clarity on billing. Boarding is also available for current clients. Doctor Wen is especially awesome - patient, sympathetic, pragmatic and considerate of your situation and your individual pet's care needs. My beloved cat Birthday adores her, making visits way less stressful for everyone involved. He is now thriving because of his diabetic care from her. Very grateful. Thanks, Doc. The Vernon Woods staff is always very kind and knowledgeable! I have taken both of my cats in for vaccinations, check-ups and emergency care. One of my cats previously had to have a cut eye lid treated - very scary but he received excellent care as soon as I bought him in and healed wonderfully! My cats always have a great time with the care team and are relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend this location for regular/emergency pet care and advice!
