I’ve never left a bad review before, but felt in this scenario it was necessary. We took our two cats in, already under the impression that they had ringworm considering one of them is a kitten. I was surprised when the Doctor sent us home claiming that it was just stress related and even checked it with a black light and still said it was not ringworm. Our cat continued to get worse, losing hair all over his face and grew a total of 16 spots. We have 4 people who live in the same house as the cat and we all got multiple spots of ringworm on our bodies. After our cat was not getting better, we took him to a different vet which claimed from first look it was 100% ringworm and confirmed it with the blacklight. Their misdiagnosis has cause our cats’ condition to become extremely worse and gave all 4 of us owners multiple spots of ringworm to pay and treat for as well. I called for some sort of refund considering all the expenses the misdiagnosis caused us, and thankfully we were given back $76 from a $200 vet bill. While on the phone with them, they told us that “for future reference we recommend only one doctor.” Yet, if we had done that, we would have never gotten the right diagnosis and his condition would have gotten even worse. This has cause us much heartache beyond what I have written, but I hope that this will save someone else the time and heartache that easily could have been avoided in our case.

Established in the late 1960s, VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital has built a long-standing reputation as a trusted, community-focused veterinary hospital in Springfield, MO. As part of the VCA Animal Hospitals network, they aim to provide high-quality medical care alongside dedicated pet lodging services.
The environment at VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge is designed to be welcoming and comprehensive, reflecting its dual function as both a medical facility and a boarding resort. The hospital strives to create a welcoming, friendly environment where every pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for throughout their visit. As an AAHA-accredited and Cat Friendly small animal hospital, they are committed to upholding high standards of veterinary care and creating a less stressful experience, particularly for feline patients. This often includes separate waiting areas, cat-friendly examination rooms, and specialized handling techniques to reduce stress. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital radiology and ultrasound, which are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Beyond the hospital, the Pet Lodge component offers climate-controlled boarding facilities, providing a comfortable and safe "home away from home" for pets. This combined setup means a cohesive environment where medical and lodging needs can be addressed under one roof, often with seamless coordination.
VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge offers an extensive array of services, catering to the diverse needs of dogs and cats. Their offerings span from routine preventative care to advanced diagnostic and treatment options, as well as specialized boarding and grooming services. Key services typically include:
- Preventative and Wellness Care: This is foundational to long-term pet health, including routine wellness exams, tailored vaccination protocols for puppies, kittens, and adult pets, and comprehensive parasite control programs. They emphasize proactive wellness plans to ensure a long, healthy life.
- Advanced Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital radiology (X-rays) and ultrasound, for accurate and timely diagnosis of internal conditions. In-house laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams are also typically available.
- Surgical Procedures: They offer a range of surgical services, from routine spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries. These procedures are supported by advanced anesthesia monitoring and pain management protocols.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are provided, including professional dental cleanings, extractions, and potentially periodontics to maintain oral health and prevent systemic issues.
- Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of complex medical conditions affecting various organ systems, including cardiology, dermatology, urology, and more.
- Pet Boarding (Pet Lodge): A significant aspect of their service, the Pet Lodge offers climate-controlled boarding for dogs and cats, providing a safe and comfortable environment when owners are away. This typically includes individual runs and designated areas for exercise.
- Pet Grooming: Services such as bathing, cat grooming, dog grooming, and nail trimming are available, helping to maintain a pet's hygiene and comfort.
- Behavior Counseling: Assistance with pet behavior issues is offered, aiming to improve the bond between pets and their owners.

The prominent features of VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge include its long-standing presence in the community (since the late 1960s), its affiliation with the broader VCA Animal Hospitals network which implies access to advanced resources and standardized protocols, and its dual offering of veterinary care and pet lodging/grooming. Clients frequently praise the "caring" nature of the staff, emphasizing that "They honestly do it because they care," and expressing gratitude for their support during challenging times. This dedication to providing compassionate care and making pets and owners feel welcome is a significant strength. The hospital's AAHA accreditation signifies a commitment to meeting rigorous standards of medical care and facility operations, while its "Cat Friendly" status highlights specialized attention to feline patients. The availability of diverse services under one roof, from wellness to advanced diagnostics and boarding, offers convenience for pet owners.
However, it is crucial to acknowledge a critical piece of feedback regarding diagnostic accuracy. One customer reported a significant misdiagnosis of ringworm, which led to worsening conditions for their cats and affected household members. This experience highlights the importance of seeking second opinions if a pet owner feels uncertain about a diagnosis, especially in complex or persistent cases. While the hospital did provide a partial refund, the incident underscores that even with advanced facilities and caring staff, diagnostic errors can occur, causing considerable stress and additional expenses for pet owners. This feedback, while a single instance, serves as an important point for prospective clients to consider and perhaps to engage actively in discussions about potential diagnoses and treatment paths.
VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge, as part of the VCA network, actively promotes its services through various channels, often including:
- Free First Exam for New Clients: A common and attractive promotion, VCA hospitals often offer a coupon for a free initial examination for new pets, encouraging prospective clients to experience their services. This is prominently advertised on their website.
- Wellness Plans (CareClub): VCA offers structured wellness plans, known as CareClub, which bundle essential preventative care services (exams, vaccinations, routine lab tests) into affordable monthly payments. These plans are designed to make routine care more accessible and budget-friendly, and often include discounts on other services.
- Online Pharmacy and App Benefits: Through the myVCA app, clients can access various features such as live chat with a veterinary professional, refill prescriptions, track vaccine status, book appointments, and receive medication reminders, all of which enhance convenience and client engagement.
- Seasonal Promotions: Like many veterinary practices, they may offer seasonal discounts on services such as dental cleanings, specific vaccinations, or parasite prevention products.
- Referral Programs: While not explicitly detailed, it's common for VCA locations to have referral programs that reward existing clients for bringing in new ones.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on their comprehensive services, specific pricing, and any current promotions, it is always recommended to contact VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge directly at (417) 881-5327 or visit their official VCA website. Their blend of comprehensive medical services, pet lodging, and a commitment to compassionate care makes them a significant resource for pet owners in Springfield, MO.

Dec 06, 2024 · Aleasha HumbleYesterday was one of the toughest days I've ever faced. I had to say goodbye to my golden girl, Seah, because I couldn't bear to see her in pain any longer. I really wish I could remember the names of the two women who cared for her and ensured she was comfortable before we let her rest. I'm so thankful I found this vet clinic; I know that if I had gone anywhere else, they wouldn't have shown the same level of compassion and care for both my cat and I. They gave us all the time we needed and thoroughly explained all our options, which helped me make the best decision for my girl's wellbeing. I won't go anywhere else for my pets' care in the future. Thank you.
Mar 27, 2025 · Audrey CWe have been taking our dogs to Park crest Animal Hospital since we moved to Springfield in 2005. They are very professional and understanding about the care they give to your fur family members. We had our last dog for almost 16 years and I thought I couldn't get another one but here we are with a border collie mix who will be 2 years old the end of May. His name is Duke and we will continue to go to Park crest Animal Hospital for all his care. Thank you, Shirley Clyburn
