I just started bringing Winston here less than a month ago. I couldn’t be happier with our experience there . I had a gut feeling that something was going on with Winston. He had significant behavioral changes and he’s been experiencing physical changes as well . I switched vets because I knew that VCA has the care club and would be helpful for as often as we need to go into the office. Just by luck we scored an appointment with Dr. Hogan . Never have I ever had a veterinarian spend so much time getting to know him as she did . And I’ve had excellent veterinarians. Winston is a lucky guy . But Dr. Hogan is truly a gift . She is thorough, kind , smart and PATIENT. Her assistant Shay is so sweet and kind as well . Those two make a great team . Thank you Dr. Hogan . You mean so much to us . I also need to mention the front desk staff. They are also very kind and so sweet . All of you are incredible and we will always be grateful for all of you .

First they sent home our kitty with blood all over her fur after a blood draw (pic below). This also wasn't even on the leg that they drew blood from, so I truly have no idea what could have happened. That was strike one. Strike two was when I arrived on time for a 3:30 appointment to be told that the appointment was scheduled on their end for 2:30, but that their system had a bug and wasn't recording times accurately. After waiting for a half hour, they wanted to reschedule. I would recommend taking your animals to somewhere that has their act together, and this place ain't it!

Excellent staff and vets. It is a bit more expensive than we pay at our regular vet in our home state but in an emergency they are great. No recheck to make sure ear infection was cleared up without paying for a full price vet appointment again (which recheck at our regular vet is free of charge). Vets are kind, compassionate, care about you and your pet. Excellent place if you have an emergency.

After a rough Sunday night/Monday morning with our ailing dog we called VCA right when they opened at 7 to see if she could be seen for an urgent exam. I described the symptoms to the front desk person who answered the call and was told they had appointments available as early as 8:30, which I took. Dr Bohrer, Josh and Topher were all fantastic with my dog, and performed a VERY thorough exam/basic treatment for her needs. They exceeded my expectations for a same day, urgent need. I cannot thank the 3 of them enough.

We are new patients at VCA North Portland and I have to say we are extremely happy with their level of care, the kindness of the staff, and how they interact with our four dogs. Dr. Mitchell is a pro and was so gentle and sweet with our dogs. She spent a couple of hours with me and our pops just getting to know them and answering my questions. The entire staff was lovely. Yes, it can take a little while to get in as they are pretty booked up, but I’m glad we waited. Would definitely recommend them to other pet owners.

We’ve been loyal clients of VCA for many years, but after our most recent visit, we won’t be returning. The decline in cleanliness, the exorbitant pricing, and the overall value of care have left us deeply disappointed. We recently brought our two healthy cats in for their routine vaccinations, which Multnomah County requires every three years. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the lack of cleanliness—the waiting area was dirty, and the exam room had visible clumps of pet hair and dirt not only on the floor but the chairs and exam table as well, an overflowing sharps container, and an appearance of lack of any sanitization. One of our cats was a bit hesitant during her shots—understandably uneasy about being poked. However, VCA seemed utterly unprepared to handle even mild resistance. Instead of using a clear, effective approach, they awkwardly attempted to wrap her in a towel, which provided little restraint. Despite this, they still struggled and had to make multiple jab attempts with the same syringe, making the experience unnecessarily stressful for both our cats and us. Then came the real shock: a bill exceeding $800 for a simple checkup and two required vaccinations. We trusted VCA, only to realize after payment that other local clinics offer the same services for less than half the cost—presumably in cleaner conditions. It feels like our long-term business was taken for granted, and we were met with blatant price gouging instead of fair, transparent care. We’re incredibly disappointed and will take our beloved pets elsewhere in the future.

I have a 16 year old rescue who LOATHES going to the vet. It's always an ordeal to get her in the carrier, and once we're there she get's real spicy with anyone (that's not me or my partner) that tries to put hands on her -- it just feels like a traumatizing event every time we need to go. That was not the case here. She was a little vocal in the waiting room, but once in the exam room, she was calm and mostly tolerant of being examined. We met with Dr. Gurnam, and she was just so gentle and kind toward our cat. When things got a little too handsy for comfort, our cat just raised a paw in the air, but never swatted. This was HUGE for us to witness. Yes, the pricing is much higher than I remember from several years ago (VCA in Clackamas for another kitty who had cancer), but finding a place where our furry friend feels comfortable to not attack, then we'll pay the extra for our friend to comfortable. Thank you VCA for showing Sioux that not all vets are scary.
