My story started out with making a phone call to VCA first thing in the morning when they opened, breaking down emotionally about my lovable cat, Piper. I told her what's going on with my cat. The receptionist was very calm and so understanding with compassion. She had put me on hold for a quick min to talk to the tech to see if they can see her that day. Due to the symptoms that she was having, she was told by the tech to bring in Piper ASAP. I get there about an hour later (don't live close by) and as soon as we brought Piper in, the tech comes around the corner and approached my husband and I and asked if that was Piper. She takes her almost immediately and tells us that she is going to evaluate her and she will come get us when they were done evaluating her. (Thousand Islands Vet Hospital, Piper's main vet would have never have done that for us. As this had happened to her before and they were going to refuse her as a new patient because I got her from someone that rescues cats and she had no records even though she was an adult cat that has been spayed and declawed. They gave me such a hard time about not having any records on Piper) VCA NEVER gave me any issues with the now small record that I do have on her since I adopted my princess. The doc came out to tell us what's going on with her and planned out the next step for Piper. While we waited for X-ray results, we inquired how she was doing and I believe it was one of the techs, that reassured us that she is doing much better and she went above and beyond to let us go in the back to let us see her for a quick second. She was also so sweet and compassionate about us as owners being worried about Piper. The staff and everyone that we had contact with us was just so wonderful and understanding. Definitely would recommend them and I am going to stay with them. Thank you VCA for taking her in like you did and giving my pet more yrs to enjoy and love her.

Their philosophy emphasizes treating patients, clients, and staff with compassion, respect, and integrity. As an AAHA-accredited animal hospital, VCA North Country voluntarily upholds high standards in various areas of veterinary care, undergoing routine evaluations on over 900 different standards. The hospital also aims to provide a "fear-free" environment, suggesting a focus on minimizing anxiety for pets during their visit.
The staff at VCA North Country Animal Hospital is often described as understanding and compassionate. One client's experience highlights the immediate and empathetic response they received when their cat, Piper, needed urgent attention. The receptionist and tech were quick to assess the situation and bring Piper in for evaluation without delay, demonstrating a proactive and caring approach. This initial compassionate interaction can be crucial for worried pet owners, setting a positive tone for the entire visit.

One of the significant features of VCA North Country Animal Hospital is its affiliation with the larger VCA Animal Hospitals network. While this provides access to a broad range of resources and expertise, it can also lead to differing opinions among clients, as evidenced by some reviews. However, being part of a larger network often means access to advanced medical technology and a strong network of veterinary professionals. The hospital emphasizes "hometown care" combined with "world-class medicine," aiming to provide both personalized attention and advanced medical capabilities.
The hospital's commitment to patient evaluation is evident in one customer's review, where their pet was promptly taken for assessment upon arrival. The proactive approach of the staff, keeping owners informed and even allowing brief visits to see their pet during evaluation, can be a comforting and reassuring aspect for clients. The ability to manage records seamlessly, even for adopted pets with limited prior history, as noted by a client, highlights their accommodating nature.
VCA North Country also offers a myVCA app, which allows clients to stay connected and manage their pet's healthcare more easily. This includes access to live chat, prescription refills, tracking vaccine status, and quick appointment booking, enhancing convenience for pet owners.
VCA North Country Animal Hospital occasionally offers promotions, such as a "FREE First Exam" coupon, which can be an excellent way for new clients to experience their services. It's always advisable to check their official website or contact them directly for current promotional offers. For managing veterinary costs, VCA North Country Animal Hospital accepts various payment options, including pet insurance. They work with major pet insurance providers, and pet owners can often get reimbursed a significant portion of their vet bills for unexpected accidents and illnesses. They may also accept financing solutions like CareCredit, which helps pet owners space out payments for larger expenses. Wellness plans, sometimes offered as add-ons to pet insurance, can help cover routine health expenses, offering another way to manage the costs of ongoing care.
Customer reviews present a mixed picture, which is common for many businesses, especially in healthcare. Positive experiences often highlight the compassionate and understanding nature of the staff, praising their responsiveness and thoroughness, particularly in emergency situations. Clients appreciate the clear communication from veterinarians regarding diagnoses and treatment plans, and the emotional support provided by the team when pets are ill. The feeling of being listened to and having their concerns addressed is a recurring theme in positive feedback.
However, some reviews raise concerns. One customer reported a misdiagnosis that led to prolonged treatment for their dog. This highlights the importance of thorough diagnostic procedures, such as skin cultures, which, in this particular case, were allegedly not performed. This emphasizes the need for pet owners to feel comfortable asking questions about diagnostic processes and treatment protocols. While some perceive the hospital's corporate affiliation as a potential drawback, suggesting a less personalized approach, others find the resources and standardized care of a corporate vet beneficial. Ultimately, the choice of a veterinary provider often comes down to individual needs, the specific condition of the pet, and the client's personal experience with the staff and services.

Mar 16, 2025 · Katie LaclairSham of a vet. I took my dog there in September with extremely dry skin and red spots popping up. They didn’t do any kind of skin culture, and told me it was simply allergies. Not even a month later, he was COVERED in ring worm outbreaks. $500 later at a other vet, I have been battling ring worm now for 3.5 months. It’s still not gone. When researching, the dry skin and red spots were the sign of ring worm coming on. Don’t go here. They are a corporate vet and don’t care. All they had to do was take a skin culture, and my poor little guy could have avoided all of this. They did not. They just looked at it with the naked eye and gave me benedryl. Go to a local-owned vet. Anywhere but here. (Photos are from 2 weeks into treatment with a different vet)

Feb 12, 2024 · Nikkole Widrickour first visit w/ our puppy was very good. The tech was knowledgeable and gave us information we needed for food etc. The doctor was really good with her and also informative. The puppy was not afraid to be there they distracted her while giving a shot and she never knew it happened. We think she will be unafraid to go to the vet for her care and that is half the battle.Check in and out was organized and timely. Everyone there was friendly and pleasant.
