I been coming here for about 18-20 years. I would say pricing wise this place is pretty expensive. From getting your shots to pets getting neutered/sprayed. Pricing wise it’s up there. I would say a positive has been the vet doctors. I haven’t had a bad experience with any doctors yet I been coming to Dr Park as my regular. If Dr Park is not there then Dr Kaplan. Again no issues with the doctors since they do a good job. My only complaint is the training from the front staff. I don’t know if I should blame how there’s a constant turnover of staff here. Some of the front staff is not well trained and I get it. I even ask the staff all the time if my puppies were fully vaccinated and if they need any more shots because we do take our dogs out on walks. When I finally need to board them the front staff tells me I have incomplete series and my pups can’t be boarded. That enrages me! I mean the reason why I ask if they are fully vaccinated is because I want them to be fully protected when I take them on walks or when I need them to be boarded. The time when I need them boarded they said oh you need two series and cause they are puppies we don’t want to risk it. Why do that to me when I been a good paying customer for the last 20 years. Things like this is because staff are not well trained and when you need help they turn their backs on you. Now I just need to schedule a vaccination but decide if I want to stay with them or not.

Welcome to VCA Mission Animal Hospital

Welcome to the introduction of VCA Mission Animal Hospital, a "Pet Hospital" located at 25 W Mission Rd, Alhambra, CA 91801, USA. VCA Mission Animal Hospital offers a range of veterinary services and related goods for the health and well-being of your pets. You can reach them at (626) 289-3643 or their mobile number +1 626-289-3643.

Based on the information available from online customer reviews, this introduction aims to provide local users with an objective overview of the environment, services, features, and any mentioned aspects related to pricing and staff at VCA Mission Animal Hospital.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment at VCA Mission Animal Hospital, based on the reviews, presents a mixed perspective. While one long-term customer of 18-20 years indicates a continued patronage due to positive experiences with the veterinary doctors, another review from a customer of 8 years highlights concerns about the handling of a large, defensive dog. This suggests that while the medical care provided by the veterinarians may be a strong point, the overall experience can vary depending on the specific needs and temperament of the pet.

One reviewer mentioned a potential issue with "constant turnover of staff" at the front desk, which they believe contributes to some staff not being well-trained. This could impact the overall efficiency and client experience at the hospital.

Services Offered

As a "Pet Hospital," VCA Mission Animal Hospital likely offers a variety of veterinary services. Based on the customer reviews, these include:

  • Vaccinations (Shots): Mentioned in the context of pricing and boarding requirements.
  • Spay and Neuter: Also mentioned in relation to pricing.
  • General Check-ups/Examinations: A customer of 8 years had sought full check-ups.
  • Boarding: Offered as a service, although one customer experienced issues related to vaccination records and boarding eligibility.
  • Potential for Sedation: Requested by a customer for thorough examination of a defensive large dog, though initially refused.
  • Diagnostic Services: A customer who switched to another hospital reported that X-rays were performed there, suggesting VCA Mission may also offer imaging, although it wasn't utilized in their case for years.

Given that it is a VCA (Veterinary Centers of America) hospital, it is also likely that they offer a broader range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, potentially including specialized care, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.

Key Features

From the customer feedback, some potential key features and areas for consideration emerge:

  • Experienced and Well-Regarded Veterinarians: Multiple mentions of positive experiences with the doctors, specifically Dr. Park and Dr. Kaplan.
  • Long-Standing Presence: The hospital has served some customers for many years (18-20 years and 8 years mentioned).

However, there are also areas highlighted for potential improvement:

  • Pricing: At least one long-term customer found the pricing to be "pretty expensive" across various services.
  • Front Staff Training and Consistency: Concerns were raised about the training of the front staff and potential issues arising from staff turnover, impacting communication regarding vaccination requirements for boarding.
  • Approach to Handling Defensive Animals: One customer with a large, defensive dog experienced years of unsuccessful attempts at a full check-up due to the veterinarian's reluctance to use sedation, which ultimately led them to seek care elsewhere.
Promotional Information

The provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers or discounts at VCA Mission Animal Hospital. Customers interested in learning about any current promotions are advised to contact the hospital directly at (626) 289-3643 or visit the VCA website to see if any network-wide or location-specific offers are available.

Customer Experiences

The three provided reviews offer contrasting perspectives on VCA Mission Animal Hospital:

One long-term customer (18-20 years) finds the pricing high but praises the veterinary doctors, specifically mentioning positive experiences with Dr. Park and Dr. Kaplan. Their main complaint is regarding the training of the front staff, citing an instance where miscommunication about puppy vaccinations affected their boarding plans.

Another customer who has been going there for 8 years with a large, defensive dog shared a negative experience regarding the refusal to sedate their pet for a full check-up, which they had requested for years. This lack of thorough examination led to untreated health issues that were only diagnosed and addressed when they sought care at a different hospital.

These reviews collectively suggest that while the quality of veterinary care provided by the doctors is generally viewed positively, there are concerns regarding the cost of services and the training/consistency of the front office staff, as well as the approach to managing difficult-to-handle animals.

Conclusion

VCA Mission Animal Hospital in Alhambra, CA, is a "Pet Hospital" that has served the community for many years, with some long-term customers citing positive experiences with their veterinarians. The hospital offers a range of services including vaccinations, spay/neuter, general check-ups, and boarding. However, potential local users should be aware of feedback regarding the hospital's pricing, which has been described as expensive. Additionally, one customer reported issues with the training of the front staff leading to miscommunication, and another had a negative experience concerning the management of a large, defensive dog requiring sedation for examination. While the expertise of the veterinary doctors appears to be a strong point, prospective clients may want to consider these aspects based on their individual needs and their pet's temperament.

This is the only place I have used since I got my dog 8 years ago. He is a large white Shepherd that gwts extra defensive every time I bring him in. For years I have requested a full check up but the doctor refuses to sedate him which is the only way to fully work on him. He has set up plans other than sedation that’s never worked and I have over and over requested sedation to no avail. His last advice was to send him to behavioral training (how long for an 8 year old dog?) After 8 years with no check ups or examinations I finally visited another hospital and on the same day they did sedate him and through X-rays and examinations he was found to have numerous issues and infections and is now being treated. These problems could have been taken care of years ago but when you have a vet who seems frightened just being in same room it is very disturbing. To all of you out there with large dogs DO NOT go there. I am just glad that he is getting the necessary care that every owner wants for their pet.

This is a really nice vet and I'm disappointed I moved away and won't be able to use them anymore. The front desk staff is friendly, I never had to wait too long, and Dr. Kaplan is a very kind, comforting doctor. He always presented a wide range of treatment options and I never felt any judgement for taking a less invasive route.

The people who work are super nice. But. I have an issue. They wanted to do an surgery cost over 500. The vet looks at my dog less than 5 min.. said she had a painful foxtail... and I didn't have that on hand..but i did take an 2nd job at night delivery food to help. Yes I do have the record.. so the workers are super sweet super sweet called to check text... Awesome 👍👍👍.. but one night her body temp goes up we rush her to another vca that was open at 8 pm. The Dr comes in. And really really really really takes her time looking at her foot. Said hold on I don't think it's a fox tail. I'll be right back. She takes my dog to the back .. comes back 5 min or a bit more. She said ok I made an incision no fox tail but you have a great puppy. She didn't clench. Growl. Nothing. She said it could be she was bit by a but or a cyst. But no fox tail. No surgery.. and paid 85.00. and my dogs foot is back 💯% better can't tell anything was wrong. Keep in mind they are very sweet but I'm not sure about what goes on behind. Because my dog was in pain badly for a week and this vet could have looked better at her. Less than 5 min... Just sad. I wouldn't recommend the vet. It wasn't cool... Yes I do have all documents bills etc...

Such friendly staff. They even text you the next day after vaccinations to see how your pets are doing. Sometimes it’s a long hold but everyone needs to wait their turn to be helped. Make sure to bring a credit card. They don’t have much change on hand.
