We’re fortunate to have a 24/7 vet hospital in this area. I tried another place listed in State College as an animal hospital, but upon arrival found out it required appts. So, off to Metzgers we went.. the Metzgers team was amazing. They were all so patient, kind, friendly, and evidently pros at dealing with emotional pet owners. Dr. Griffiths was amazing and explained everything thoroughly and asked permission before doing extra tests and explained why it would be helpful, treatment options, etc. I didn’t feel pressured into an upsell. We were in and out quickly with meds in hand. I see people have left reviews complaining about prices… well, the reality is they have a business to run. I can’t imagine the costs of running a 24/7 vet hospital. They are open literally any hour for any pet emergency and requiring payment for the services provided is reasonable knowing it allows them to be there for all emergencies. Yours, mine, your neighbors’ pet emergency.. I couldn’t put a price value on my cat’s life. I thought the cost was very reasonable especially considering I literally just showed up there with my cat’s crisis and accompanying emotional baggage so early in the morning. Thanks to all the staff at Metzgers, Thunder got to come home with me today and should be feeling better soon. A++!

The "Pet Hospital" category perfectly encapsulates VCA Metzger Animal Hospital's extensive offerings. This is more than just a clinic; it's a full-service animal hospital equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs for various pets. The facility aims to be a singular point of contact for pet owners seeking everything from preventative care to complex surgical procedures, ensuring continuity of care and peace of mind.
One of the most significant aspects that distinguishes VCA Metzger Animal Hospital is its 24/7 availability. This crucial feature addresses a common pain point for pet owners: the unpredictable nature of animal emergencies. Many standard veterinary clinics operate within fixed business hours, making it challenging to secure immediate care for after-hours crises. VCA Metzger Animal Hospital eliminates this hurdle, ensuring that professional veterinary assistance is always at hand, day or night, weekends, and holidays. This round-the-clock service is a lifeline for pets experiencing sudden illness, injuries, or other urgent conditions, as highlighted by numerous grateful client testimonials.
Upon entering VCA Metzger Animal Hospital, visitors can expect an environment designed to be as comforting as possible for both pets and their owners. While specific details about the interior decor and layout aren't extensively publicized, the emphasis on patient and owner well-being is evident from client feedback. The staff strives to create a welcoming atmosphere that can help alleviate the stress often associated with veterinary visits, especially during emergencies. Cleanliness, organized spaces, and a calm demeanor from the veterinary team are typically hallmarks of such a dedicated facility, aiming to provide a reassuring experience during what can be very anxious times.
The range of services offered at VCA Metzger Animal Hospital is comprehensive, reflecting its status as a full-service animal hospital. Beyond emergency care, pet owners can expect to find a broad spectrum of veterinary services, likely including: preventative care such as vaccinations, parasite control, and annual wellness examinations; diagnostic services, which may encompass in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis), digital radiography (X-rays), ultrasound, and potentially more advanced imaging; surgical procedures, ranging from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries; dental care, including cleanings, extractions, and oral health assessments; and internal medicine to address chronic conditions and complex diseases. The hospital's ability to offer a wide array of services under one roof simplifies pet healthcare management for owners.
A distinctive feature, consistently praised by clients, is the hospital's approach to client communication and transparency. Reviews frequently mention the staff's patience, kindness, and friendly demeanor, particularly when dealing with emotional pet owners. Dr. Griffiths, specifically highlighted in a customer review, exemplifies this by thoroughly explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and the necessity of various tests. This commitment to transparent communication ensures that pet owners are fully informed and can make educated decisions about their pet's care without feeling pressured into unnecessary procedures. The practice of seeking permission before performing additional tests is a testament to their ethical approach and respect for client autonomy.
Another key feature is the hospital's efficiency. Despite being a 24/7 emergency facility, clients report being in and out quickly with medications in hand, even during early morning emergency visits. This efficiency is crucial during stressful times, demonstrating well-organized processes and a dedicated team capable of managing high-pressure situations effectively.
Regarding pricing, while some general comments about veterinary costs can be expected, VCA Metzger Animal Hospital's clients often express understanding and appreciation for their pricing structure, especially given the specialized nature of 24/7 emergency care. As one reviewer aptly put it, the costs associated with running a round-the-clock veterinary hospital are substantial, and the ability to provide immediate, life-saving care at any hour is invaluable. The perceived reasonableness of the cost, even for emergency services, suggests a fair valuation for the unparalleled accessibility and quality of care provided. It's a pragmatic recognition that the cost allows them to be there for every pet emergency, whether it's one's own pet or a neighbor's.
For promotional information, VCA Metzger Animal Hospital's core strength lies in its 24/7 emergency availability and comprehensive service offering. Marketing efforts would logically highlight this immediate accessibility as a primary benefit, emphasizing peace of mind for pet owners. Promotions could also focus on the compassionate and transparent approach of their veterinary team, using testimonials that praise their communication and patient-centered care. Highlighting specific services like advanced diagnostics or surgical capabilities would also appeal to owners seeking specialized treatment. Given the positive feedback on their efficiency, promotional messaging could also underscore their ability to provide swift and effective care during urgent situations, making them a reliable choice for critical moments. The "Pet Hospital" category itself is a strong selling point, conveying that they offer more than just basic veterinary services, but rather a holistic approach to animal health.
In summary, VCA Metzger Animal Hospital is an indispensable asset to the State College community, offering an unwavering commitment to animal welfare through its 24/7 emergency services, comprehensive veterinary care, and deeply compassionate staff. Their dedication to transparent communication, efficient service, and accessible high-quality care positions them as a trusted partner for pet owners navigating the health needs of their beloved animals.

Apr 08, 2025 · Devon EttersI'm so glad that there is a 24/7 animal hospital near me. It's so hard to get a normal vet visit anymore as they always say they are fully booked up. My cat Cream Corn was having a bloody stool and just white liquid in his stool that looked like mucus. It got worse around 1:00 AM and VCA Metzger got us in around 1:30-2:00 am as we are a 45 minute drive away and they did everything they could to make sure I was fully aware of his condition, and talked me through every step and every test they wanted to perform. Theh wouldn't do the tests without an okay from me. I will always bring my animals to them for emergencys. Thank you again for being open 24/7 and treating myself and my animals with the up most care.
Feb 12, 2025 · matthew ferrisMy Princeton Lewis was limping and i was so worried, I had called another hospital but they said I would have to go and stay in my car while they took Princeton in. Well I love my fur baby and wanted to be with him . What a wonderful hospital Metzger's is. They got us in, we're so kind and friendly and knowledgeable and got Princeton x-rayed and diagnosed. I believe Princeton needs surgery after talking with Dr. Ryder. I'm so grateful that I could be there and that there are so kind and helpful during times like this when it's scary that your fur family is not themselves.
Oct 26, 2024 · Peanut butter DONUTI had my dog here to see Dr. Rider for a knee injury. Everything from the initial consultation to his procedure today has been above and beyond. Every staff member we interacted with from client relations (reception) to all the techs and assistants we crossed pathes with had been very kind to both myself and most importantly, my pup. I dealt with both Dr. Rider and one of his technicians, Ashley, at both visits and they made me feel 100% comfortable knowing he was in their care. Being that I also work at an animal hospital this experience not only benefits my family but also assures me when we are referring a patient to Metzger's (as we often do for specialty care) they will undoubtedly receive gold standard care. :)
Apr 25, 2025 · Xena Zanostaff is really great but they really don’t give you a warning about the cost of your visit. $600 for bloodwork is outrageous especially when the doctor nonchalantly runs what she wants before consulting us. like, what if i didn’t have $600 at check out? are you gonna keep my animal? bffr… yall need to get on like Blair Animal Hospital in Altoona and develop a payment structure of your own that is affordable in this economy. $250/yr includes # wellness visits, sick visits, etc. the answer can’t always be “option A or put your pet down” that’s not providing best health care. because after all, we aren’t even seeing the care you’re giving the pets, the exams aren’t even done in the rooms any longer. you could be playing fetch with my animal for all i know. i just really feel taken advantage of after my appointment. i knew what i came in for, and expected the visit to be $300 MAXIMUM… but i probably will not bring my animals back here again until you guys start humbling yourselves and realize the state of world we live in. pet care is expensive but i work in medical care and people without insurance aren’t even paying that much money to run a CBC or CMP…
