Used to be the best caring vets and staff. But since the last year or two they have changed a lot of staff and the customer service is not good at all. My dog is very sick and I called and left a message at 7:30 when they say they are open but busy. It says they will call back ASAP, but By noon no call back and so I call back and they say no time for your dog and just offer a phone number to another vet further away. No, “I’m sorry we couldn’t get back to you quicker” or “ Let me see if we can help you find another vet or can help you over the phone”. They have been great for 10 years but now have a rude front of house staff since they “went corporate” with their new upgrades to their facility. I won’t be going there anymore.

VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital Introduce
Welcome to VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital, a part of the VCA Animal Hospitals network, located at 246 W Washington St, San Diego, CA 92103, USA. As a facility within the Pet Hospital category, VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital has served the local community for a significant period. However, recent customer reviews indicate a notable shift in the experiences of pet owners, particularly regarding customer service and accessibility.
According to feedback from long-term clients, VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital was once known for its caring veterinarians and staff. One reviewer with a decade of experience stated that it "used to be the best caring vets and staff." This positive sentiment from the past suggests a history of dedicated service and a strong connection with the local pet owner community. However, both recent reviews highlight a perceived decline in customer service quality, reportedly coinciding with staff changes and the hospital becoming part of a larger corporate entity ("went corporate").
One concerning account details a situation where a pet owner with a very sick dog called the hospital at their stated opening time and left a message requesting urgent assistance. Despite the promise of an "ASAP" callback, no response was received by noon. Upon calling back, the owner was reportedly told that the hospital had no time for their dog and was simply offered the phone number of another, more distant veterinary clinic. The reviewer expressed disappointment at the lack of empathy or proactive assistance from the front office staff, noting the absence of an apology for the delayed response or any attempt to help find alternative local care or offer phone guidance. This experience suggests potential issues with phone communication, responsiveness, and the level of support provided to pet owners in urgent situations.
Another long-term customer echoed these concerns, stating that they have been a "loyal customer for over a decade" but have recently encountered significant difficulties in contacting the hospital. They reported that the phone is no longer being answered, and voicemails are not being returned. This lack of communication has made it challenging to even schedule an appointment for their cat, indicating a potential breakdown in basic customer service functions. These accounts raise questions about the current staffing levels, training, and protocols for handling phone inquiries and appointment scheduling at VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital.
The first reviewer also mentioned "new upgrades to their facility," suggesting that while physical improvements may have been made, these have seemingly been accompanied by a deterioration in the human aspect of their service. This highlights a potential disconnect between investing in infrastructure and maintaining the quality of patient and client care that fosters trust and loyalty within the community. The reviewer explicitly stated their intention to no longer use the hospital's services due to these negative experiences.
Given these recent reviews, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the current environment, services, and features of VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital based solely on this information. The strong negative feedback regarding customer service overshadows any potential positive aspects that might still exist. While VCA as a network typically offers a wide range of veterinary services, including routine care, diagnostics, surgery, and emergency services, the reported issues with communication and responsiveness are critical concerns for any pet owner seeking reliable and timely care.
It is important to note that these reviews represent individual experiences and may not be representative of every interaction at VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital. However, the consistency in the complaints about declining customer service and difficulty in communication should be a point of consideration for local pet owners. Potential features of a VCA hospital generally include access to a network of specialists, advanced medical equipment, and a commitment to professional standards. However, the effectiveness of these features can be undermined if basic customer service and communication are lacking.
There is no promotional information available in the provided text. Typically, VCA hospitals may offer various promotions or wellness plans; however, in light of the recent feedback, local users might prioritize addressing the service concerns before inquiring about any potential offers. It would be prudent for pet owners considering VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital to directly contact them to inquire about their current staffing, communication protocols, and appointment procedures. Asking specific questions about how they handle urgent requests and ensure timely responses might provide further insight into their current operational practices.
In conclusion, while VCA Hillcrest Animal Hospital has a history of providing care to the San Diego community, recent customer reviews raise significant concerns about the current state of their customer service, particularly regarding phone communication, responsiveness to urgent needs, and overall client support. Long-term customers have expressed disappointment with changes they attribute to staff turnover and corporate influence. Local users should carefully consider these recent experiences when making decisions about their pet's veterinary care and may want to seek further clarification from the hospital directly regarding these issues before entrusting them with their animal's health.

Jan 18, 2018 · Inés Carolina Munguia (Carolin Briana)Meadow is the absolute best groomer in San Diego. First, she’s talented at her work. Most importantly she has a huge heart for all animals so I know my dogs are in great care with her when they spend a day at the doggy spa. Dogs come back smelling fresh and clean, as well as super loved and happy!
