Our dog Heidi had a small cancerous mass removed from her stomach area by our vet who then recommended we see an oncologist about a follow up to go over the results. We saw Dr. Benz at VCA in Mission Valley and could not have been happier with the meeting considering the circumstances. She spent almost an hour talking with us and doing a thorough exam of Heidi. Happily the margins were clean from the mass removal. Further options were considered, but the end result was to do routine checkups and hope that the cancer would not return. We were treated with respect the whole time, were never pressured for further treatment, nor did we feel like we were financially abused for the consult. We would readily go back again. P.S. Heidi is doing great!

This allows us to offer advanced care for complex conditions that may require specialized knowledge and expertise. One of our key specialties is oncology, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pets. As highlighted in a heartfelt customer review, Dr. Benz, an oncologist at our facility, provided exceptional care and guidance for their dog, Heidi, who had a cancerous mass removed. The owner praised Dr. Benz for her thorough examination, clear explanations, and the respectful, non-pressured approach to discussing treatment options. This positive experience underscores our commitment to providing compassionate and ethical cancer care for pets.
Our oncology service encompasses a comprehensive range of diagnostic and treatment modalities, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy (in some cases or through coordination with other facilities), surgery, and palliative care. Our board-certified veterinary oncologists work closely with pet owners to develop individualized treatment plans that consider the specific type and stage of cancer, the pet's overall health, and the family's goals and preferences. We understand the emotional toll that cancer can take on families, and we are dedicated to providing not only the best medical care but also the emotional support needed during this challenging time.
Another touching review shared by a pet owner recounts their experience with chemotherapy treatment for their beloved cat, Minnie Mouse, at our facility. They expressed deep gratitude for the extra time the treatment provided and were particularly moved by the compassionate care shown by the veterinary team, who even affectionately nicknamed their cat "thin mint." This anecdote beautifully illustrates the genuine care and personal connection that our team fosters with our patients and their families.

Sep 14, 2024 · Brian M.My family used this vet from 2021 to 2022 for chemotherapy on my childhood cat, and got her so much more time with me. After she died, her vets sent a very heartfelt card. I will never forget the part detailing that they called her “thin mint” because she was very skinny and sweet. I’m so glad these people loved Minnie Mouse as much as I did! ❤️❤️
Sep 01, 2024 · Madeline DavisWe had to bring our dog here due to persistent vomiting, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience in such a stressful situation. The entire staff was incredibly kind, compassionate, and helpful from start to finish. They got our dog in quickly, provided thorough and informative explanations, and treated both her and us with genuine care. We’re so grateful for their professionalism and empathy—highly recommend this emergency vet hospital!
Feb 27, 2025 · Mariah BlockThe doctor was very nice, helpful, and full of information but the prices are outrageous. They are the most expensive out of everyone we went to for a consultation. They refused to see us without our dog, even though we said we just wanted to talk with the doctor to ask questions. We had already, done exams, X-rays, blood work etc, at multiple places. We went here to see if we wanted to have them do our surgery since we wanted to do our due diligence for our dog...$292 just to give you a consultation of what they do...and surgery prices for one of the procedures was double other places. Do your research.
Dec 30, 2024 · FM HMy beautiful Sophie cat was only 17 but not feeling well. I took to to vet and the said she had failing kidneys and gave me a diet for her. She responded well. Months later she quit eating and I took her to this place. They did Xray and said one of her kidneys was enlarged and to take her to vet. He told me no enlarged kidney. She had a seizure one night to I took her to this place and vet said it was probably not a seizure but a convulsion. They took her in the back and came out to tell me she had a seizure so they sedated her with Valium (without my permission) They told me she would by pretty much comotose and lose brain function and I should put her down. They never explained to me about seizures or that they are treatable. I put my sweet girl down that night but always had questions. These people are in the business of putting animals down, not treating them. NEVER EVER TAKE A PET HERE.
