As a proud member of the VCA Animal Hospitals network, this facility provides a wide array of services and goods for sale, positioning itself as a "Pet Hospital" dedicated to the health and well-being of companion animals. You can contact them at (570) 344-7651 or via mobile at +1 570-344-7651.

Environment and Philosophy

VCA Dunmore Animal Hospital operates with a core philosophy centered on providing "hometown care" combined with "world-class medicine." This means they strive to offer the most advanced veterinary care while maintaining a compassionate and personalized approach to each patient and their family. The hospital emphasizes creating an environment where pets and their owners feel comfortable and supported. The front desk staff, in particular, is frequently highlighted in reviews for being "extremely welcoming and amazing to talk to," with specific mentions of individuals like Nikki, Dianne, and Esther making clients and their pets feel like "family." This focus on a warm and friendly reception sets a positive tone for the entire visit.

The facility itself is state-of-the-art, boasting an 8,800 square foot space that includes five spacious and modern exam rooms, a dedicated consult/comfort room, and two extensive surgery suites. This advanced infrastructure ensures that the hospital can handle a wide range of medical and surgical needs. They are also equipped with modern technology such as a CO2 laser for surgical procedures, advanced anesthesia monitoring systems (VetSpec ECG/pulse oximeter/respiratory monitor with non-invasive blood pressure), an ICU unit with oxygen and heated surgical recovery kennels, a tonopen, and a digital dental radiographic unit. This commitment to modern equipment reflects their dedication to providing precise and effective treatments.

VCA Dunmore Animal Hospital is AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accredited, a significant distinction. This accreditation signifies that the hospital voluntarily upholds the AAHA's high standards across 18 different areas of veterinary medicine and is routinely evaluated on over 900 different standards of veterinary care. Only 12-15% of veterinary hospitals hold this honor, showcasing their commitment to excellence and quality. The hospital treats a variety of animals, including avians, cats, dogs, pocket pets, and rabbits.

However, it is important to note that while client-facing staff are often praised, there have been significant criticisms regarding the internal professional environment, particularly concerning the treatment of students or those seeking to gain experience. One review from a parent of a vet tech student describes a "worst experience imaginable," citing a lack of patience, dismissive behavior, rudeness, and unprofessionalism from staff towards the student. This suggests that while the front-of-house experience for pet owners may be excellent, the internal culture regarding mentorship and support might be inconsistent, which could indirectly impact staff morale and, eventually, patient care.

Features and Expertise

The expertise at VCA Dunmore Animal Hospital is backed by its affiliation with the larger VCA Animal Hospitals network, which provides access to extensive resources and a standardized approach to care. The hospital itself is equipped with advanced technology for diagnostics and surgery, as mentioned, enhancing their capabilities in providing high-quality medical services. Their AAHA accreditation is a testament to their commitment to upholding stringent standards in all aspects of veterinary medicine, from patient care to facility management.

A key feature highlighted by client feedback is the welcoming and personable front desk staff, specifically naming Nikki, Dianne, and Esther. Their ability to make clients and their pets feel "comfortable" and "like family" contributes significantly to a positive overall experience. This human element of care, where staff are friendly and engaging, is crucial for building trust and loyalty among pet owners.

However, the significant critique regarding the treatment of a vet tech student reveals a notable internal inconsistency. While patient care appears strong from the client's perspective, the "dismissive, rude, and unprofessional" behavior towards a student seeking to learn indicates a potential flaw in their internal culture, particularly concerning training and mentorship. This type of environment can impact morale and, in the long run, affect the quality of the team providing care. This contrasting feedback underscores the importance of evaluating all aspects of a clinic's operations.

I would strongly advise against bringing your pet to VCA Dunmore. My daughter completed her preceptorship there as a SUNY Delhi vet tech student, and it was the worst experience imaginable. She called me in tears multiple times due to the way she was treated by the staff. They had absolutely no patience in teaching her and made no effort to help her learn or grow in the field. Instead of fostering a supportive learning environment, they were dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. Thankfully, she is now at a different veterinary clinic where the staff is incredible. They are patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping her succeed as a vet tech. The difference is night and day. The experience at VCA Dunmore was a complete waste of time, and I would never recommend them to anyone—whether you're a pet owner or a student looking to gain hands-on experience.

I will not use them again I got shots for my 4 dogs and 2 cats and was charged almost three thousand dollars for shots. I had a litter of 8 pups and paid for their shots at another vet and didn't pay anywhere near as much as they charged me. While the staff were kind they are far over priced than any other vet I been to. It was only shots no medical emergency almost three thousand dollars seems to be quite exseive. Update they respond on here asking you to reach out but never respond. Seems like the only reason they respond on here is so if someone reads your review it looks as if they care. Do yourself a favor and stay away they are money hungry.

I love this place, they treat my dogs so well. Although sometimes my big boy can be intimidating they still care for him. Totally recommend!

The staff was helpful and understanding when I had to bring my jezzabell back on the 18th of December. I had to make the hardest decision of my life. I spent 15 yrs with her, from the time she was born. I received her remains less than a week, being quite satisfied how they handled it, and just in time to have her here with us for Christmas.
