I took my recently rescued dog here for her first vet experience and it was thoroughly disappointing. This was during COVID so they were doing visits where you would bring your pet to the door and then wait in your car doing the visit over the phone. Since I could not be there with my dog, they did vaccinations and things that I didn’t ask for and then charged me for it. They also told me specifically that her ears looked great, which I questioned because last I heard, my dog had an ear infection. They said they’d check her ears again because I pressed them, and it turns out, oh yes, she still in fact had a major ear infection! So I paid over $100 for an exam that I feel it’s safe to say was negligent at best. Then they tacked on a 6 month supply of flea and tick medication to my bill without asking or telling me, when they were aware I already had a subscription for that running elsewhere. So a word to anyone taking their pet here : TRIPLE check your bill! They will add things on there you didn’t ask for and don’t need. And get confirmation for exactly what they are doing to your pet BEFORE it is done.

Based on recent online reviews, some customers have reported negative experiences with VCA Bloomington Animal Hospital. One reviewer who brought in a recently rescued dog for her first vet visit during COVID-19 restrictions described their experience as "thoroughly disappointing." Due to the protocol of waiting in the car while the pet was examined inside, this customer alleges that their dog received vaccinations and other services that were not requested, resulting in unexpected charges. They also questioned an initial assessment that their dog's ears were fine, only to have a major ear infection confirmed upon pressing the issue. This reviewer also reported being charged for a six-month supply of flea and tick medication without their consent, despite having an existing subscription elsewhere, and advises others to carefully check their bills and confirm procedures before they are performed.

Another customer shared a negative experience related to obtaining calming medication for their two cats before a flight. They brought their cats in multiple times for immunizations and to get the medication. Despite asking for confirmation multiple times about the sufficiency of the prescribed amount for two cats, they found the quantity to be inadequate on their travel date. This resulted in their cats being scared and not calm during the flight, leading to disappointment and a loss of trust in the clinic, where they had been bringing their cats since they were kittens.

These reviews suggest potential concerns regarding communication, billing practices, and thoroughness of examinations at VCA Bloomington Animal Hospital. Local users seeking a "Pet Hospital" in the Bloomington area should consider these recent experiences when making their decision and may want to seek clear communication and written confirmation regarding all services and charges before proceeding with treatment for their pets.

My cats were fling for the first time so I brought my cats in for couple times to get their immunizations and get calming medication for them. They gave me one bottle of calming medicine for my 2 cats. I asked them couple time to confirm if there was enough medicine in the bottle? And they assured me that there was enough medicine for my 2 cats. Unfortunately my travel date came I tried to give the medicine to my cats 2 hrs before my flight but there was not enough medicine in the bottle. I’m really disappointed. My cats were scared and were not calm the whole duration of the flight. I brought my cats to VCA since they were kittens. But they lost all my trust.

If I could give negative stars, I would. I brought a rescue kitten there and the tech was great, front desk also great! However Dr. Jean Geske clearly has something against calico cats, and she made it very clear to me. I paid $99.50 to basically be lectured on why I should not keep this kitten. She was able to listen to the kittens heart then acted like the kitten was attacking her by jumping back, hands up, scared like. The kitten is not a monster, and it's insane the amount of unprofessionalism she had in her conversation with me. When the manager called me back, she informed me via voicemail that Dr. Geske "thought I was on the same page as her" -- HA! I hardly said 2 words. I agreed that calicos can be a little spicy (as I have one at home), but that's it. All in all NONE of my animals will be going back there and I advise others to stay clear also. Sucks I spent the money and got nothing out of it... oh wait I was told "next time you come that check up charge won't be charged again" LOL cool.. thanks.. but no thank you.

I've been going here for 8 years with our first dog, and i honestly am mad at myself for staying here so long. What a ride it's been. The people here are professional, but the doctors have changed multiple times over the years. Most of these doctors have been defensive when I ask questions, try to upsell a prescription we don't need, or just don't seem to genuinely care about my dog. I once went in for a tooth extraction, scheduled ahead of time, and after checking in and waiting a bit, a vet tech comes up to me with a clipboard with his full info on it and says, "who is this? What are we doing today?" God, I HOPE you know what you're doing today!!! Made me nervous. Our dog has had minimal health issues in his 8 years with us, and all of a sudden has declined rapidly. They called about his blood test results and said he was basically doomed, then we came in to confirm with more tests, and they gave me 3 different diagnoses throughout the appointment-- its cancer. Wait no, it's not. Wait, maybe it still is. Never said, "we don't know, we'll refer you to a specialist." Just basically looked at me apologetically, offered another $500 worth of tests and didn't give me a treatment plan at all other than pain meds. After spending $2000 in two weeks on tests with no definitive answer, and being guilted by these people, we will not trust them with our current or future dogs anymore.

This clinic has not been a dependable clinic for many years. I was hung up on today after attempting to get an answer to a simple question, and when I called back I was told that they ended their relationship with me. I called back and was told that this happened because in 2019 I opted to take my very sick dog to the U of M to see a specialist. I am waiting for a call back from the office manager. I have had some issues at this clinic in the past, but they were due to incidents not related to my behavior. The first time, a vet tech made a mistake...the second time I opted to transfer a stray cat to a less expensive clnic to be treated for a blockage, and in 2019 because I took my dog to the U of M instead of booking an appointment with them. In the past 15 or so years, I have noticed that more people in this profession are poor communicators and or just plain rude and abusive. I have been rescuing and caring for animals for over 50 years. Never had a bad experience until about 15 or so years ago.
