I had great service on my last appointment with my dog and actually wrote a very nice review. What I’m reviewing today though is a concern about some medication I received for my dog . My dog is being treated for a tick borne illness and needed more Carprofen, which is generic for Rimadyl. I sent my son-in-law to pick it up and only received four 100 mg tablets to be broken in half for eight days. Immediately his energy level returned after an hour, and my dog was bounding around playing with toys. It works wonderfully for him! However, the cost was really disturbing! $50 for 4 tablets! I had a dog years ago on this medication for joint issues and I never remembered paying that much so I started to look it up and honestly you can get this stuff on Chewy for$.68 a table. I don’t understand why the over- inflated price for something that is quite commonly prescribed. I’ve read that PetSmart has it cheaper too! …all this stuff of course requires a vets signature, or I would order it myself. My dog does so well on it! It’s already a very expensive practice, so I’m a little put off by the price gouging of this very common medicine. I guess I’m gonna have to take my dog somewhere else because he’s not getting any younger and if he needs this again I don’t feel like paying over $12 bucks a pill.

The environment at VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital is designed with both pet and owner comfort in mind. The hospital aims to create a welcoming and professional atmosphere that reduces stress often associated with veterinary visits. While specific details on the decor or unique features of the waiting area are not extensively described, the overarching philosophy of VCA hospitals emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and a calm ambiance. The staff are integral to this experience, with a strong focus on professionalism, empathy, and excellent customer service. Testimonials frequently highlight the caring, compassionate, and helpful nature of the team, indicating a positive and supportive environment for clients and their pets.
VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, addressing the diverse healthcare needs of dogs and cats. These services include, but are not limited to, preventive medicine, which forms the cornerstone of long-term pet health. This encompasses routine wellness examinations, vaccinations tailored to your pet's lifestyle and risk factors, and effective parasite prevention and control programs. Beyond preventive care, the hospital provides advanced diagnostic capabilities, such as digital radiology (X-rays) for precise imaging, EKG for cardiac evaluations, and video otoscopy for detailed ear examinations. These tools enable veterinarians to accurately diagnose conditions and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
Surgical services are also a key offering at VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital, ranging from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries. The hospital prioritizes patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures, utilizing modern Sevoflurane Anesthesia. Dental care is another critical area of focus, with services including dental X-rays and comprehensive dentistry to address oral health issues that can significantly impact a pet's overall well-being. Furthermore, they offer cold laser therapy, a non-invasive treatment modality that can aid in pain management and accelerate healing for various conditions.
Beyond traditional medical services, VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital extends its care to include important pet counseling services. This encompasses behavioral counseling to help address common pet behavioral issues, and nutritional counseling, which is vital for maintaining a pet's ideal weight and addressing specific dietary needs. These counseling services demonstrate a holistic approach to pet health, recognizing that well-being extends beyond medical treatment alone. They also provide specialized packages, such as New Kitten and New Puppy Packages, to help new pet owners start their companions on the right paw with comprehensive initial care.
A notable feature of VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital, as evidenced by customer feedback, is their flexibility and responsiveness in times of urgent need. One highly positive review specifically mentions the hospital’s willingness to accommodate a new patient in a major time of need, even with only ten minutes left in the day. This highlights their commitment to providing compassionate and timely care, especially during emergencies, and their ability to be incredibly professional under pressure. Such instances underscore their dedication to animal welfare, even when it means going above and beyond standard operating procedures.
While the hospital strives for excellence in care, a common concern among pet owners regarding veterinary services, including those at VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital, can be the cost of medications. One review highlighted a significant concern regarding the pricing of commonly prescribed medications like Carprofen (generic for Rimadyl). This feedback suggests that while the quality of service and immediate care are highly praised, pet owners are encouraged to discuss medication costs and explore options, such as comparing prices with online pharmacies like Chewy or major retailers like PetSmart, for prescription refills, as long as a veterinarian’s signature can be obtained. It's important for pet owners to understand that while a vet's prescription is necessary, options for where that prescription is filled might exist to help manage expenses, especially for long-term medications.
For promotional information, VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital, like many VCA facilities, often provides attractive offers to new clients. A common promotion available through VCA Animal Hospitals is a "Free First Exam" for new clients. This offer typically allows new pet parents to bring their pet for an initial wellness examination without the exam fee, providing an excellent opportunity to experience the hospital's services and meet the veterinary team. Details for such promotions are usually available on their official website, requiring clients to complete a form to access a coupon.
Beyond initial offers, VCA also offers the "CareClub" program, a wellness plan designed to make preventive care more affordable and predictable. CareClub plans typically include unlimited exams (wellness, sick, and emergency exams), doctor-recommended vaccines, and potentially discounts on other services. These plans are designed to be customized to an individual pet's needs and are paid for via a convenient monthly membership fee. This can be a significant benefit for pet owners looking to manage the ongoing costs of their pet's health and ensure they receive consistent preventive care.
Furthermore, VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital, like other veterinary practices, generally accepts various forms of payment and financing options to assist clients with veterinary expenses. These may include pet insurance, which can reimburse a percentage of unexpected accident and illness costs, and third-party financing solutions such as CareCredit and Scratchpay. It is always advisable for pet owners to inquire about these options before or during their visit to understand how to best manage the financial aspects of their pet's healthcare.
In conclusion, VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital distinguishes itself as a highly compassionate and professional veterinary facility within the "Pet Hospital" category. Located conveniently in Bakerstown, PA, it offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and preventive services for dogs and cats. While pricing for certain medications may warrant discussion, the overwhelming feedback praises the hospital's exceptional care, flexibility, and dedication to animal welfare. With various promotional offers, including the potential for a free first exam and the beneficial CareClub wellness plans, VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital strives to make quality veterinary care accessible to the community. Dec 24, 2024 · T MillerThey were so caring, compassionate, flexible, helpful, mindful & by far the best vet I’ve ever been to by miles. They took my dog with ten minutes left on the day ( a patient they haven’t had before) in a major time of need, we’re so incredibly professional and would recommend 100x over.
Dec 10, 2024 · Dan LeighlitnerI am so grateful at how I was treated during a hard time of making the decision to put my Sassy down, and then again receiving her ashes. The staff and vet took their time with me, explaining each step, while treating my Sassy as their own with the utmost respect. Giving me the time needed for closure, and exiting on my time. I appreciated this, that words cannot express my gratitude. When I brought the ashes home I was speechless again with the beautiful urn box and the most of cherishing keepsake of my Sassy’s paw print. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and my family’s appreciation of the thoughtfulness!!
Feb 08, 2022 · Annette VivianI took my geriatric (16 yr old feline) girl with congestion, sneezing, runny eyes, seeping ears, sleeping a lot, ect. We had dr. Reese and he was very informative, spent time with us. He gave her an antibiotic shot that and also cleaned her up and did her nails. We are home now, me sitting on the back porch and she is out roaming the yard. I feel so good about taking her. Maybe just a little pricey, but it's well worth it for the one you love. Kimba, my 'little white lion' has been through so much (ears), and she always bounces back like champ!
Jun 09, 2020 · Jodi L. MorettiHave a less than pleasant experience today at this vet . My college age daughter brought in her rescue with all of his papers and vaccinations from a visit that he had three months ago and another certified veterinarian out of state. They charged my daughter $350 for her dogs rash. They tried to justify all of the charges, exams, injections, when they probably should’ve just started with some appointment first. I feel like they price gouged a college student.
