I called to schedule a neutering appointment on the 13th of December for the 17th and was told over the phone the total in price and required vaccinations. I agree and move forward with the appointment. I arrived to the appointment and had asked for the total again before discussing anything further. i was told “roughly $300”, which i was told over the phone and before discussing the “change of prices”. Then we get to discussing the change of price and UPON ARRIVAL i was told the prices went up on the 1st of December, which I wasn’t notified over the phone AT ALL. Only to be told that it was a $200 up charge and from what i was told it was “roughly $300” Why are you handing me a receipt of nearly $500 for the neutering of ONE 13 pound dog??

Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital Formerly Central Animal Hospital Introduce
Welcome to the comprehensive introduction of Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital, formerly known as Central Animal Hospital, a dedicated pet hospital serving the local community in Dubuque, Iowa. Located at 1865 Central Ave, Dubuque, IA 52001, USA, Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital stands as a local resource for pet owners seeking quality veterinary care for their animal companions. Operating under the platform category of "Pet Hospital," this establishment provides a range of essential services and potentially offers related goods to support the health and well-being of your pets.
To connect with Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital, you can reach them at their landline number: (563) 557-1515 or their mobile phone number: +1 563-557-1515. These contact details allow local users to easily inquire about services, schedule appointments, or seek immediate assistance for their pets.
While specific details about the hospital's environment are not explicitly provided in the given information, it is common for pet hospitals to strive for a clean, comfortable, and reassuring atmosphere for both pets and their owners. Typically, a well-equipped veterinary clinic includes examination rooms for consultations and check-ups, surgical suites for various procedures, diagnostic imaging areas (for X-rays or ultrasounds, if offered), and potentially separate waiting areas to minimize stress among different animal species. Kennels or recovery areas are also essential for housing and monitoring pets before and after procedures.
The services offered at Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital are likely to encompass a broad spectrum of veterinary care aimed at maintaining and improving the health of pets. Based on the limited information, we can infer at least one specific service: neutering. A customer review mentions scheduling a neutering appointment, indicating that this surgical procedure is offered. Beyond this, typical services provided by a pet hospital often include:
- Preventative Care: This includes routine check-ups, vaccinations (as mentioned in the review), parasite control (flea, tick, heartworm prevention), and nutritional counseling to help pets stay healthy and prevent potential health issues.
- Diagnostic Services: These are crucial for identifying health problems and may involve physical examinations, laboratory tests (blood work, urine analysis, fecal exams), and imaging techniques such as X-rays and ultrasounds.
- Surgical Services: Besides neutering, animal hospitals typically offer a range of surgical procedures, from routine surgeries like spaying to more complex soft tissue or orthopedic surgeries.
- Dental Care: Maintaining oral health is vital for pets. Services may include dental cleanings, extractions, and treatment of dental diseases.
- Emergency and Urgent Care: Many pet hospitals provide services for unexpected illnesses or injuries that require immediate attention.
- Management of Chronic Conditions: This involves ongoing care and treatment for pets with long-term health issues such as diabetes, arthritis, or kidney disease.
- Euthanasia and End-of-Life Care: Providing compassionate support and services when a pet's quality of life is severely compromised.
The features of Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital would contribute to the overall experience of pet owners. While not explicitly detailed, common features of a reputable pet hospital often include:
- Experienced and Compassionate Veterinary Staff: This includes licensed veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff who are skilled in animal care and dedicated to providing a positive experience for both pets and their owners.
- Well-Equipped Facilities: Access to modern medical equipment is essential for accurate diagnoses and effective treatments.
- Focus on Patient Comfort and Safety: Implementing protocols to minimize stress and ensure the safety of animals during their visit or stay.
- Clear Communication with Pet Owners: Providing thorough explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and costs.
The provided customer reviews offer a glimpse into the experiences of pet owners with Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital. One review, while expressing long-term satisfaction over 16+ years with multiple pets, highlights a significant concern regarding pricing transparency. The customer recounts being quoted a price for a neutering procedure over the phone, only to be presented with a substantially higher bill upon arrival due to an alleged price increase that was not communicated beforehand. This discrepancy led to considerable frustration and a significantly higher expense than anticipated.
Conversely, the same review also includes a positive sentiment, stating that the family has "not ever been disappointed" over the years and commending the hospital with "2 thumbs up" for their help with different pets. This suggests that, despite the pricing issue encountered in this specific instance, the hospital has generally provided satisfactory care and built a positive relationship with this long-term client.
It is important for local users to consider both aspects of this feedback. The positive comment indicates a history of reliable service and positive outcomes for various pets over an extended period. This speaks to the potential expertise and care provided by the veterinary team. However, the negative experience regarding the unexpected price increase underscores the importance of verifying all costs and ensuring clear communication about potential changes before proceeding with any services. It would be prudent for new clients to have a detailed discussion about the estimated costs of procedures and any potential additional charges to avoid similar situations.
Based on the available information, Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital (formerly Central Animal Hospital) appears to be an established pet hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, with a history of serving the community for over 16 years. They offer veterinary services, including at least neutering and likely a broader range of medical, surgical, and preventative care. While one customer review highlights a significant issue with pricing communication, the same review also acknowledges years of positive experiences. Therefore, local users seeking a pet hospital in Dubuque may consider Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital but should prioritize clear and thorough communication regarding service costs to ensure transparency and avoid unexpected expenses.
For local users in Dubuque, Iowa, Vanderloo & White Animal Hospital, operating as a Pet Hospital, is a physical establishment located at 1865 Central Ave. It is advisable to contact them directly at (563) 557-1515 or +1 563-557-1515 to inquire about their comprehensive list of services, discuss the environment of their facility, understand their specific features, and ask about any current promotional information they might be offering.
