Welcome to UrgentVet
For pet owners on Staten Island, New York, the sudden onset of an illness or a minor injury in their beloved animal can be a source of significant anxiety, especially when it occurs outside of regular veterinary hours. UrgentVet, located at 2706 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306, USA, is specifically designed to address this critical need, serving as a dedicated "Pet Hospital" that bridges the gap between routine daytime primary care and full-blown emergency room services. With telephone numbers (718) 717-1440 and mobile +1 718-717-1440 readily available, UrgentVet offers a crucial resource for pet parents seeking prompt, compassionate, and affordable after-hours veterinary care.
The environment at UrgentVet is thoughtfully designed to minimize stress for both pets and their owners, a feature frequently highlighted in glowing customer reviews. The facility prioritizes a "Fear-Free" approach, which is evident in various aspects of its design and operation. This often includes separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, reducing potential anxiety from inter-species interactions. Calming pheromone diffusers, dimmable lighting, soft music, and soothing colors are typically incorporated to create a more tranquil atmosphere. The use of quiet exam lift tables and non-slip flooring further contributes to a less intimidating experience for pets. Reviewers consistently praise the staff for their gentle handling techniques, noting how they can calm even anxious animals, such as the feral kitten "Woody" who was purring under the care of Samantha and Dr. Kimberly Atkinson. This focus on a calm, welcoming environment is a cornerstone of UrgentVet's commitment to patient well-being, acknowledging that a less stressed pet can lead to a more effective examination and treatment.
As a specialized "Pet Hospital" focusing on urgent care, UrgentVet offers a distinct range of services tailored to non-life-threatening conditions that require immediate attention. They are an ideal choice for situations where your regular vet is closed, but the issue isn't severe enough for a 24/7 emergency hospital. Their services typically include assessment and treatment for conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughs, sneezes, skin allergies, ear infections, minor injuries (like cuts, scrapes, and limping), urinary tract problems, and sudden lameness. They are equipped with in-house diagnostic tools like digital X-ray and a comprehensive in-house lab, allowing for quick and accurate diagnoses. While they do not provide routine preventative care or overnight hospitalization, their model ensures efficient and targeted treatment for urgent ailments. One customer review specifically mentions receiving care for a cat with a urinary issue, highlighting their ability to handle such pressing concerns. The clinic also provides end-of-life care and euthanasia services, offering compassionate support during difficult times. A key aspect of their service model is the commitment to seamless communication with a pet's primary veterinarian, ensuring that detailed records are shared for follow-up care, promoting continuity of care.
Several features distinguish UrgentVet from a typical veterinary clinic or a full-scale emergency hospital. Their primary differentiating factor is their focused role as an "urgent care" facility, operating after hours, on weekends, and all holidays (365 days a year). This makes them an invaluable resource when a pet's condition arises outside of standard business hours. The "walk-in" or "save your spot online" model ensures that pet owners can access care promptly, reducing agonizing wait times often associated with emergency rooms. The private examination rooms provide a more personal and less intimidating experience for pets and their owners. The commitment to a Fear-Free certified staff underscores their dedication to reducing anxiety in animals. Furthermore, UrgentVet positions itself as a more cost-effective alternative to full emergency veterinary hospitals for non-critical conditions, making quality after-hours care more accessible. Customer testimonials consistently praise the staff's knowledge, friendliness, and genuine care for animals, with specific shout-outs to individuals like Dr. Kimberly Atkinson and staff members like Samantha and manager Maria, who went above and beyond, even awarding a "feral kitten" for his bravery. This level of personalized and empathetic care is a significant feature that resonates deeply with pet owners, turning a stressful situation into a positive experience.
In terms of promotional information, UrgentVet likely leverages its specialized service model and positive customer experiences to reach local pet owners. Their strong emphasis on "after-hours care" and being a "bridge the gap" solution is a key message. Online presence, including a user-friendly website (where pet owners can potentially save a spot), is crucial. The glowing customer reviews, such as those provided, serve as powerful testimonials, highlighting the compassionate and efficient care received. These reviews often spread through word-of-mouth within the pet-owning community. The mention of "affordable alternative to the ER vet" also acts as a significant draw, especially for owners concerned about the high costs associated with traditional emergency care. Seasonal promotions, such as clinics focusing on specific health concerns like canine flu vaccinations (as seen in some past promotions), or educational content about common urgent pet issues, could also be part of their outreach. The ease of contact through their readily available phone numbers reinforces their commitment to being there when needed. Their stated mission to provide "quick, convenient, affordable veterinary care 365 days a year" succinctly captures their value proposition to the Staten Island community, making them a go-to option for pet parents facing urgent but not life-threatening health concerns.

Jan 11, 2025 · Victoria MaculaThis is a wonderful vet with incredible veterinary staff! They took us immediately and were warm, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about working with the feral kitten we brought in. We were worried because he hadn't been to a vet but Samantha had him calm from the moment she took him out of his carrier. She was holding him (something we couldn't even do) and he was purring, but he sadly did not go into the adorable cat house she brought out. Samantha sprayed pheromones on herself prior to handling him and let him smell and look at every tool she was using to give him a checkup. Our vet, Dr. Kimberly Atkinson, was just as fantastic with him, funny, kind, everything you could ask for from a vet and more. The manager Maria came in and asked if she could hold him because she kept hearing about him. She also gave him an award! It is comparable in price to any extended hours veterinary practice, and the total love, respect, and care they showed to Woody went beyond expectations. Everyone there was awesome, and we feel very lucky to have found them!
Jan 11, 2025 · R RAll I can say is I had to put down a loved dog down today. After a visit 3 days ago with the doctor it was determined the dog had issues. Everyone I met at this office was caring, concerned, compassionate, and beyond wonderful. The care I got here made this horrible decision more comforting. I recommend the office to everyone. These girls rock.
Apr 06, 2025 · heather dellariaThe staff was amazing. My CoCo is 11 years old and I thought her eye was swollen but it was actually her tooth. They sent us home with meds, a list of primary vets. They called to check up on CoCo and make sure she didn’t have any side effects from the meds. The cost is the best I’ve come across. I wish they were in Brooklyn but I have no problem crossing the bridge for their services.
Apr 27, 2025 · Jennifer RiveraI don’t write reviews ever but this place is absolutely incredible and just had to leave a review. place is spotless and the staff are top notch..they seemed to genuinely care about my pets injury and my concerns..also a very quick and efficient operation. Doctor was very helpful and upfront. The triage manager you can tell loves her job and did everything possible to relax my dog. Was the first time he ever left a vet with a wagging tail..I recommend a thousand times
