Dr. Bookbinder and the team here are amazing. My pit tore her CCL August 2021 when she was 1 1/2, thankfully my vet referred me to here. My dog is reactive to strangers touching her and she does not like going to the vet. Her first surgery was a success but Dr. Bookbinder told me to be prepared in case she tears her other leg. He was correct and she needed another surgery March 2022. He used dissolvable stitches so he didn’t have to remove them and stress her out, which would possibly leading to messing up the healing. The second time he allowed me to take her home same day because the first surgery she was so stressed out staying the night. I was in the room when she woke up from the second surgery and took her home. Diane here is so wonderful I have emailed them because she was limping around 8 month after the second surgery and she assured me that the rate of failure is almost impossible and to give it a few days and if she was still limping they would examine her. Thankfully she was right and my girl is happy and healthy! Its been almost 3 years now and if it wasn’t for the scars on her legs you would never know she had surgery. Much cheaper than other quotes I got and he did an amazing job. She is running, jumping and playing like a dog should. I really can’t thank Dr. Bookbinder enough.

The core services offered at Upstate Veterinary Surgical Center are primarily surgical, with a strong emphasis on orthopedic procedures. Based on the testimonials from satisfied clients, these services include:
- CCL (Cranial Cruciate Ligament) Surgery: This specialized surgery addresses a common knee injury in dogs. Dr. Bookbinder's expertise in this area is repeatedly highlighted, with successful outcomes reported even in complex cases requiring bilateral surgeries.

- Pre- and Post-Surgical Consultation and Care: The staff takes the time to thoroughly explain the surgical procedures, as well as the necessary pre-operative and post-operative care instructions, ensuring that pet owners are well-informed and prepared.
- Customized Post-Operative Management: Recognizing that each pet is unique, the center demonstrates flexibility in post-operative care. In one instance, allowing a reactive dog to recover at home on the same day of the second surgery minimized stress and potentially improved healing.
- Use of Advanced Techniques: The use of dissolvable stitches, as mentioned in a review, showcases the center's commitment to employing techniques that prioritize the comfort and well-being of the animal, reducing the need for potentially stressful stitch removal procedures.
- Follow-up and Support: The staff provides ongoing support and addresses post-operative concerns promptly and reassuringly, as evidenced by Diane's helpful response to a client's email regarding their dog's recovery.

Mar 04, 2025 · Kayla CDr. Bookbinder and staff did a fantastic and very professional job. Twice. Our pup is back after 2 ACL surgeries. This is the best run office I've been to. They explain everything you need to do and what they are going to do before and after the surgery. A well-oiled machine. Thank you again Dr. and staff.
Apr 09, 2025 · Michael R.Dr. Bookbinder is the best! We've had 3 ACL surgeries here on our dogs, and everyone here is caring and exceptionally competent. Plus, they are reasonably priced. It's the only place to go for pet surgeries in CNY. Highly recommended!
May 18, 2025 · Mark BellDr. Bookbinder was amazing. His staff was so sweet. They were very helpful and tried other things before going right into surgery for my feline. (It was safe to do that).
May 01, 2025 · Amy BackmanI will say, this practice is absolutely amazing. Doctor Bookbinder is genuinely a man not after a price tag, he is affordable, loving, and just exceptional. He repaired our dogs CCL over 2 years ago. We loved him so much we went back this past month to have 2 masses removed from her. One from her head and the other from her neck. I highly recommend him and will use him if ever needed again!!!! I will add my current vet wanted over 12k for the TPLO surgery and 8500 for the removal and biopsy of the 2 masses. Dr. Bookbinder came in well under that price tag.
