I just moved to Houston a year ago and I was looking for a permanent vet that I can trust. When I brought my two dogs to them they were kind and compassionate and treated them like they were their own. When I had concerns about my small dog after her vaccine they were on top of it and they let me bring her back same day appointment to make sure that she was healthy and they even waived the exam fee. They have been nothing but nice and thoughtful and love spoiling my dogs by giving them treats. They also answer the phone fast and efficient even when I called multiple times expressing my concerns. Will definitely go back for future visits!

Feb 20, 2025 · Hannah GosselinWhat a wonderful group of people!! I highly recommend True Animal Vet to anyone in need of vet care. My Shepherd Husky had a large wound on his neck due to excessive scratching and allergies, and he is an extremely difficult patient! Dr. Salcetti was kind ,compassionate and so knowledgeable . When I had a question, I received a call back immediately from her. Jan went above and beyond to save me money on a second prescription that I needed by calling multiple pharmacies until she found the lowest price! I find their pricing to be much more cost-effective than the previous vet that I had been using. When it comes to our four-legged babies, we will all do anything to make sure they are taken care of. It’s nice to be able to go to a place that I have complete trust in.
Mar 19, 2025 · Tracy WI brought my beautiful senior girl in for urgent care late Weds 01/22/25 due to vomiting & deep green/almost black + a blood spot in vomit, fearing rat poison. TV did x-rays, bloodwork, checked clotting factors & diagnosed pancreatitis. TV said next step would be ultrasound to check for underlying condition like pancreatic cancer or gallbladder issues/disease. I asked if anything treatable & was asked if I could afford gallbladder surgery, but she did not say why. I said probably not. I left thinking the primary concern was to get her out of the woods with pancreatitis, then figure timelines if terminal or disease. We returned for supportive pancreatitis care next 2 days. On the night of day 3 I had to emergently put her down at TV due to a ruptured gallbladder, in tremendous pain. It took a bit for the shock to wear off & reach out about how many things were wrong with our experience: 1) At no point was I made aware that gallbladder rupture was a possiblity. Crying + worrying about my sick pet didn't mean I somehow read between the lines her gallbladder could burst. I do feel the vet thought it to be a very real possibility on day 1, but I've since spoken with her & don't feel the lack of clarity intentional, so much as hopeful. This info would have drastically changed the trajectory of decision-making on ultrasound timing & allowed for surgery or peaceful in home euthanasia. Not being able to give her that after 14yrs together pains me greatly. 2) Due to not understanding the possibility of anything acutely fatal besides pancreatitis, ultrasound was not pushed on either side after day 1 & not scheduled sooner. 3) Nobody told me until day 3 that she could be checked in for daytime hospitalization vs overnight. My great fear was that she'd never been away from us like that & might panic & die there. Day 3 a sweet vet tech took pity on me & offered daytime hospitalization. She said there are no overnight staff & she'd have been alone on IV pump. I immediately accepted for 3pm-9pm & said let's schedule ultrasound. Since it was Friday, I was told Saturday or Monday. 4) At 5pm I received a call from the tech that she was settled in & doing well on IVs & that someone was coming in to do ultrasound. I was not told a time so I could be there. 5) At 6:30 I missed a call & returned it at 6:38pm. I was placed on hold & the tech got back on the line & said the Vet(diff from day 1&2) wasn't available but that the ultrasound showed Duffles' gallbladder had ruptured & that she was in great pain & needed to be put down. My sister (a nurse) offered to pay for half of surgery & called for quotes. Blue Pearl said they could take her. We both tried to call the vet, but were told she was "having dinner with her kids" & unavailable. I gathered my other dogs in case & headed to TV. When I arrived, the whites of Duffles' eyes were brown & her tongue was hanging out. She was medicated for pain. I called & told my sister I thought it was too late & called a nearby sister to come be with us. 6) Nobody went over the ultrasound findings or gave a writeup before euthanasia. It took almost a month to get them via email & learn that she had a mucocele, "scant" fluid leakage, & CT could have been done to still consider surgery. 7) When I said it was time & I was ready to let her go, a diff tech brought in a laminated sheet of urns & tried to upsell before putting my dog down. She was extremely pushy & I got frustrated & swore at her. The gentleman vet on duty was kind & gentle. I ended up requesting to pick Duffles up for cremation elsewhere. 8) When I picked up my dog's frozen body, someone said "Be careful" but nobody said sorry for your loss or held door. They went on to the next person. The original vet & I went back & forth via email for a week when I finally spoke up. It was traumatic & took away from grieving my dog. OG vet was kind & took ownership that the possiblity of anything acutely fatal will be made clear in future experiences. Some of the other things were still denied. I remain hopeful that nobody else will experience what we did.
