The vet techs are super friendly and our animals love them, especially our dog Pumpkin. I have never had a pet so excited to go to the vet and abandon me. Our cat recently had a major dental surgery which was handled flawlessly and they communicated everything with me promptly and before they proceeded with the procedure. Their quotes from my experience are on the higher end but it always seems to come under what they quoted in the end which is always appreciated.

Welcome to Total Veterinary Care Cicero
For pet owners in Cicero, NY, finding a veterinary partner that combines advanced medical care with genuine compassion is a key consideration. **Total Veterinary Care Cicero**, located at **7913 Brewerton Rd Ste A, Cicero, NY 13039, USA**, stands out as a prominent and highly regarded institution within the "Pet Hospital" category. This facility is committed to providing comprehensive veterinary services, from routine wellness to complex surgical procedures, all within an environment that prioritizes the comfort and well-being of both pets and their human companions.
The environment at Total Veterinary Care Cicero is characterized by a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, where the comfort of pets is clearly a top priority. Situated conveniently off US-11, the hospital aims to create a positive and stress-free experience for animals and their owners. Public reviews frequently highlight the exceptional demeanor of the staff, indicating that the clinic fosters a genuinely caring atmosphere.
One delighted customer enthusiastically shared, "The vet techs are super friendly and our animals love them, especially our dog Pumpkin. I have never had a pet so excited to go to the vet and abandon me." This particular anecdote speaks volumes about the positive energy and gentle handling that pets receive, making vet visits less of a chore and more of an anticipated outing for some animals. This reflects a deep understanding of animal behavior and a commitment to positive reinforcement. The clinic's website even invites potential clients to visit and "let us show you around," suggesting a transparent and open environment.
Another review reinforces the overall positive staff interactions: "The staff is nice, they seemed well informed about animals. I appreciated that they didn't try to upsell me with pet insurance, the most expensive foods, or high-end toys." This highlights a client-focused approach where genuine care and necessary medical advice take precedence over sales pressure. However, the same review also pointed out a common challenge in busy practices: "My only issue is for questions about my catboy, I can't get anyone to ever call me back! These are answers to questions that are in his records, so I would need a call back." This suggests that while in-person interactions are highly praised, efficient follow-up communication can sometimes be an area of focus for improvement in a high-volume setting.
Total Veterinary Care Cicero also emphasizes creating a safe, happy, and professional work environment for its team, which directly translates into better patient care. The hospital features "state-of-the-art equipment," "7 exam rooms," and "dedicated surgery and dental suites," showcasing a modern and well-equipped facility designed for efficient and high-quality veterinary medicine.
As a full-service "Pet Hospital," Total Veterinary Care Cicero offers a wide array of veterinary services to ensure the health and longevity of pets, primarily focusing on small animals like dogs and cats, and notably, also serving exotic animals. Their comprehensive approach covers everything from routine preventative care to advanced surgical procedures and specialized treatments. Key services include:
**General Wellness and Preventative Care:** This forms the core of their practice, encompassing regular nose-to-tail wellness examinations, customized vaccination protocols tailored to each pet's lifestyle and risk factors, comprehensive parasite control (flea, tick, and heartworm prevention), and microchipping for permanent identification. They emphasize proactive health management to prevent illnesses.
**Advanced Diagnostic Services:** For accurate diagnosis, the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, including in-house laboratory services for rapid blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. They also utilize advanced imaging such as digital radiography (X-rays) to examine internal structures and ultrasound for more detailed soft tissue evaluations, including internal medicine and cardiology interests, as mentioned by their Chief of Staff, Dr. Stacy McCarthy.
**Surgical Procedures:** Total Veterinary Care Cicero performs a range of surgical services, from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries. Their "dedicated surgery and dental suites" suggest a focus on maintaining a sterile and well-equipped environment for all operations, with proper anesthesia and pain management.
**Comprehensive Dental Care:** As highlighted by a customer review ("Our cat recently had a major dental surgery which was handled flawlessly"), dental services are a strong point. This includes professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, dental extractions, and other procedures to address periodontal disease and maintain excellent oral health, which is vital for overall pet wellness.
**Internal Medicine:** Their veterinary team, including Dr. McCarthy, who has a professional interest in internal medicine and cardiology, is equipped to diagnose and manage a variety of complex internal conditions.
**Exotic Animal Medicine:** Notably, Dr. Alina Tsareva brings a special interest in exotic animal medicine to the practice, expanding their capabilities beyond traditional dog and cat care to include avian and pocket pets.
**Behavioral Consultations:** With Dr. McCarthy's professional passion for animal behavior, the hospital offers support to pet owners in understanding and communicating with their pets, strengthening the human-animal bond and addressing behavioral challenges.
**Pharmacy Services:** An in-house pharmacy and potentially an online platform allow for convenient access to necessary medications, prescription diets, and parasite preventatives.
**End-of-Life Care:** While not explicitly detailed, as a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," they would also provide compassionate end-of-life care, including euthanasia services, to ensure a peaceful transition for beloved pets.
Total Veterinary Care Cicero distinguishes itself through several key features that enhance the client and patient experience:
**Team of Experienced and Diverse Veterinarians:** The clinic boasts a collaborative team of experienced DVMs, including Dr. Stacy McCarthy (Chief of Staff, interested in animal behavior, internal medicine, cardiology), Dr. Alina Tsareva (interested in dermatology, soft tissue surgery, and exotic animal medicine), Dr. Melissa Ferris, and Dr. Amanda Armendariz. This diverse expertise allows them to handle a broad range of cases and offer specialized insights.
**Commitment to Transparency in Pricing:** One client explicitly appreciated that quotes often come "under what they quoted in the end." While the initial quotes might be "on the higher end," this practice of often coming in below the initial estimate is highly valued by pet owners and fosters trust.
**Emphasis on Preventative Care:** Their focus on "total care from the tip of their nose to the end of their tail" underscores a preventative philosophy aimed at early detection and ongoing wellness, reducing the likelihood of more severe and costly health issues down the line.
**Friendly and Attentive Support Staff:** The consistent praise for vet techs and office staff highlights a team that is not only skilled but also genuinely kind and gentle with animals, creating a positive experience for even nervous pets.
**Non-Corporate, Privately Owned Practice:** The fact that Total Veterinary Care is described as a "privately-owned (non-corporate) general practice" can appeal to clients seeking a more personalized approach and a sense of community care often associated with independent veterinary hospitals.
**Mentorship and Professional Growth:** Their focus on providing strong mentorship for new graduates suggests a commitment to continuous learning and maintaining a high standard of veterinary medicine within the practice, which benefits all patients.

**New Client Incentives:** Offers for a discounted initial exam for new patients or introductory packages for puppies and kittens.
**Seasonal Promotions:** Campaigns focused on specific health needs, such as dental cleaning discounts during Pet Dental Health Month, or special pricing on parasite prevention during peak seasons.

Apr 18, 2025 · Yvette HensonTotal Veterinary Care Cicero is absolutely the best vet I have ever been to! I recently moved to the area and they were able to get my elderly cats in very quickly despite being new patients. I have had visits with Dr. Amanda and Dr. Alina, they both are incredible! So kind and caring, and extremely knowledgeable! Everyone on the staff is so friendly and kind, and all so good with pets. I am so thankful and appreciative of the high quality of care from everyone at Total Veterinary Care Cicero, thank you all so much!
Jan 20, 2025 · Meagan ChapmanAbsolutely love this place ! I switched from a vet that I have gone to for forever and I don’t regret switching one bit! Dr Ferris is my absolute favorite she understand all of my pets needs and is such a good listener !
May 14, 2025 · michelle supernaultEdit: The actual vet was amazing! Did speak to Shannon about the situation and she handled it very well. We have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks so hopefully things will be better then! Terrible receptionist. My dog was attacked and needed to have his eye looked at. Was told it would be $69 to schedule the appointment (which was the next day) the fee also went towards the exam, fine no problem. Was told at that time that the fee would be forfeited if we did not show for our appointment or if we were late 10 minutes or more, totally get it. Called back on the day of because we had a family emergency, the receptionist I spoke to was beyond passive aggressive with a snippy attitude saying that we would forfeit the fee to reschedule. Stated that their policy was in the email I should have received with my deposit receipt. Did not receive any email. Called back requesting said email. Got the same girl again stating they don’t send any type email, odd considering she just said they did? Whatever. Obviously I’m upset that I need to find someone to bring my dog to this appointment today or I lose a deposit that I was never told I’d lose just to reschedule. Her response was “well it doesn’t matter if you weren’t told, it goes without saying” while she’s giggling. Our dogs previous vet office closed for business which led us to having to find somewhere new, they requested a deposit for the first appointment which was forfeited if you did not show, not to reschedule. If we’re not told something then we’re supposed to just guess? Seeing as not all places have the same policy. There wouldn’t have been any confusion or issue if the policy was advised correctly at the time of making an appointment. Then to have someone answering the phones with such poor attitude. I’ve never dealt with such unprofessionalism from a receptionist, especially while dealing with something serious with our dog. Thank god for my mother in law being able to help today. She said the vet was great but upon check in, the receptionist was giggling about our phone call. I would love to give 5 stars for the actual vet but the first impression was upsetting. I was hoping to make this our permanent vet but not if all phone calls will go how today’s did.
