Total Pet Care Hospital Introduce
For pet owners in Birmingham, Alabama, searching under the category "Pet Hospital," Total Pet Care Hospital, located at 5965 Service Rd, presents a deeply concerning dichotomy in its recent customer reviews. One review expresses contentment and trust in the facility, while another recounts a harrowing experience involving alleged misdiagnosis, misleading information, and a profound breach of trust. These starkly contrasting accounts necessitate a careful and objective examination of the information available for local users considering this veterinary practice.
One positive review offers a reassuring perspective: "Texas Blue 馃挋 Andrews loves this facility. My daughter feels great about leaving him here. In the past she would worry herself silly about his care but not now. They are reasonably priced as well." This concise testimonial highlights several positive aspects. The fact that the pet "loves this facility" suggests a comfortable and perhaps even welcoming environment for animals. The owner's daughter feeling "great about leaving him here" speaks to a sense of trust and confidence in the care provided by the hospital staff. The mention of reasonable pricing is also a significant factor for pet owners concerned about the financial aspects of veterinary care. This review paints a picture of a trustworthy and reasonably priced pet hospital where animals are well-cared for, providing peace of mind to their owners.
However, a subsequent and significantly more detailed review presents a drastically different and deeply troubling experience: "We have used this vet for about 3 years now. Won't be back though. Not gonna bad mouth anyone or call names. This is just our most recent experience and you can take what you will from it." The reviewer begins by acknowledging a prior positive history with the clinic, having used their services for approximately three years and noting that they had always been "professional" and their advice was never "second guessed." This establishes a baseline of trust that was ultimately shattered by their most recent experience.
The core of the negative review revolves around the care of their 14-year-old dog with a fatty tumor that allegedly led to a bladder infection. The reviewer states, "I knew and expressed that there was something more and given the age of my dog (14 years old) that I would prefer to put him down if it was a quality of life vs quantity of life situation." This highlights the owner's proactive concern for their elderly dog's well-being and their willingness to make a difficult decision to prevent suffering. However, they were reportedly told by the vet "that it was nothing to worry about. A 2 day stay, antibiotics and non-invasive surgery and we would have a 'GOOD 2 YEARS' with him before needing to revisit the subject of putting him down." This initial prognosis offered significant hope for extended quality time.
The subsequent events, as described by the reviewer, are deeply concerning. Upon picking up their dog, the prognosis changed to "at least a good 3 to 6 MONTHS with him," a significant discrepancy from the initial two-year estimate. Despite this, the owners followed the prescribed medication regimen and returned for a two-week checkup, where they were told everything was "back to normal." A second round of the same medication was prescribed "just to be safe," with a follow-up scheduled for six months or if the dog's condition worsened. By this point, the family had reportedly spent "almost 3k in a little less than month" seeking to extend their dog's life, a path they were initially prepared to forgo in favor of humane euthanasia.
Tragically, the dog's condition took a "dramatic turn for the worst" over the weekend, leading to significant suffering. The most disturbing revelation in the review concerns the prescribed medications: "we were told the meds given to him were for his joint pain and an oral anti-biotic for the infection. But when the pain meds did nothing to alleviate his pain, we got curious. Googled said meds only to find that BOTH meds were nothing more than B12 vitamins." This accusation of prescribing ineffective placebos instead of actual medication is extremely serious and represents a profound breach of trust. The reviewer alleges that this was a deliberate act to extract more money from them, contrasting the nearly $3000 spent with the $300 originally discussed for euthanasia. They suggest a motive of obtaining both the inflated treatment costs and the eventual euthanasia fee. Ultimately, the family, with the help of medical professionals within their own family, provided end-of-life care at home, having lost all trust in Total Pet Care Hospital.
Based on these starkly contrasting reviews, the environment of Total Pet Care Hospital in Birmingham, AL, is difficult to assess objectively. One reviewer found it to be a place where their pet was comfortable and they felt at ease leaving their animal. However, the detailed negative review paints a picture of potential miscommunication, a lack of transparency, and, most alarmingly, the alleged prescription of ineffective treatment, which raises serious questions about the ethical standards and quality of care provided in at least one instance.
The services offered at Total Pet Care Hospital appear to include general veterinary care, such as diagnosis and treatment of illnesses (including bladder infections), pain management, and potentially surgical procedures (described as "non-invasive" in the negative review). They also offer end-of-life services, including euthanasia. The discrepancy in the information provided to the owner in the negative review regarding prognosis and medication casts a significant shadow over the reliability and integrity of their service delivery.
The features of Total Pet Care Hospital are difficult to ascertain definitively due to the conflicting reviews. The positive review suggests reasonable pricing as a potential feature. However, the negative review alleges deceptive practices related to treatment and cost. The professionalism initially observed by the negative reviewer seems to have deteriorated significantly in their most recent experience. The trust that the family had built over three years was ultimately destroyed. A concerning feature highlighted by the negative review is the alleged misrepresentation of medications and the potential prioritization of financial gain over the well-being of the animal.
Currently, there is no information available in these reviews regarding specific promotional offers or special programs at Total Pet Care Hospital. Given the serious allegations raised in the negative review, any potential promotions would need to be carefully evaluated in the context of the overall quality and trustworthiness of the care provided.
In conclusion, for local pet owners in Birmingham, Alabama, searching for a "Pet Hospital," Total Pet Care Hospital presents a deeply concerningly mixed picture. While one reviewer expresses trust and satisfaction, another provides a detailed and disturbing account of alleged misdiagnosis, misleading prognoses, the prescription of ineffective medication, and a significant breach of trust. The stark contrast between these experiences suggests a potential inconsistency in the quality and integrity of care provided at this facility. Local users should carefully consider both of these accounts, weigh the potential risks against the reported positive experience, and perhaps seek additional information or consider alternative veterinary practices before entrusting their pets to Total Pet Care Hospital.

Dec 29, 2024 路 Tristen AndrewsWe have used this vet for about 3 years now. Won't be back though. Not gonna bad mouth anyone or call names. This is just our most recent experience and you can take what you will from it. So like I've said 3 years give or take. They've always been professional and we've never second guessed anything they've said. Our mistake. Recently (per the vets own words) my dog had gotten a bladder infection due to a fatty tumor that spread. I knew and expressed that there was something more and given the age of my dog (14 years old) that I would prefer to put him down if it was a quality of life vs quantity of life situation. I was told then that it was nothing to worry about. A 2 day stay, antibiotics and non-invasive surgery and we would have a "GOOD 2 YEARS" with him before needing to revisit the subject of putting him down. Well, my husband went to pick him up and was told he was in the clear. Just needed some at home meds and a check up in 2 weeks. But that we had at least a good 3 to 6 MONTHS with him. How did you mis-speak years a day months? I digress. So we gave him his meds, as prescribed. Went back again for ANOTHER 2 week check up and was told everything was back to normal. My dog was even getting around normal again for the most part. Was a 2nd round of the same at home meds "just to be safe" but told he didn't need to come back until his 6months check up or if he started getting bad again. Mind you at the this point, we've spent almost 3k in a little less than month on getting more time that we were not only only prepared to not have in the first place, but promised double the amount of time in the initial visit, but even expressed multiple time that we preferred to go ahead and have him put down vs have him suffer. We went in on the initial visit mentally and emotionally prepare to be leaving with our baby in an 鈿憋笍. So over the weekend he took a dramatic turn for the worst. To the point that we knew there was no coming back. Spent all weekend watching him suffer. And here's why... we were told the meds given to him were for his joint pain and an oral anti-biotic for the infection. But when the pain meds did nothing to alleviate his pain, we got curious. Googled said meds only to find that BOTH meds were nothing more than B12 vitamins. So now, instead of bring him in to have him put down, there is not only a trust issue, but the fact it now makes since that they got 3k out of us, instead of the $300 we had originally talked about when we were to put him down, knowing full well he wasn't okay and thinking they would still get not only the money they blatantly scammed us of but also the euthanasia fee very soon down the line. They did not. Luckily we have medical professionals in the family and we able to help him pass as comfortable as possible at home without being scammed by them again.

Feb 26, 2025 路 Emily TuckerDr. Rebecca Parker is awesome!! My puppy son, Prince sustained a pretty serious injury to his neck. This injury was so bad that his neck was wide open and you could see everything in his throat. I was worried but I could clearly see the worry and concern on Dr. Parker鈥檚 face. Prince had to have major surgery and stay a few nights in her care. The dr could clearly see my concern and she tried to reassure me even though I could see the worry on her face. I received daily calls as promised from the Dr with updates, Dea her assistant is also top notch she was so gentle and caring with Prince. But the biggest impression came from the front office staff, ( I can鈥檛 remember her name) starting with the phone call to see if they could see an emergency. The receptionist was so polite and when we arrived her compassion was helpful. After a few days I was able to bring Prince home with a drain tube, I was given very detailed instructions on how to flush the tube and how to perform his care for the next few weeks. Upon check out Selena was also very nice. This was not Prince normal veterinary practice but based on the service received his care has now been transferred to a place that genuinely seem concerned and has a love for the pets. I鈥檓 so thankful for this practice and the care and love shown to my puppy son, Master Prince.
