I have been working with Dr. Lawlis for over a decade now and cannot recommend her enough. Dr. Lawless has been with me through the death of my service dog, and the training of her successor. She has supported me while I have addressed both mental and physical health for all of my working animals. If you like me, feel that your vet needs to be able to not only treat your animals, but needs to address the fact that you live with them and know when they are behaving normally and when something is just not right, she is the vet for you!

Welcome to Tompkins Veterinary Services

Tompkins Veterinary Services, located at 1451 Dryden Rd, Freeville, NY 13068, USA, stands as a highly regarded "Pet Hospital" within the local community, offering a comprehensive range of veterinary care services for companion animals. While operating under the general category of a pet hospital, Tompkins Veterinary Services distinguishes itself through a profoundly client-centric and compassionate approach to animal health, focusing on fostering strong relationships between veterinarians, pets, and their human companions. Unlike larger, more commercialized pet retail outlets that might also fall under a broad "pet" category, this clinic is singularly dedicated to the medical and well-being needs of domestic animals, providing professional services rather than selling an extensive array of goods like pet food or accessories.

The environment at Tompkins Veterinary Services is designed to be welcoming, calming, and efficient, aiming to minimize stress for both pets and their owners. While specific architectural details are not explicitly provided, based on customer reviews, one can infer a clean, organized, and friendly atmosphere. The mention of the staff being "friendly and patient" suggests an environment where animals, even nervous ones like "grandma dog Daisy," can eventually feel at ease and even become playful. This indicates a space that is not just medically equipped but also emotionally supportive. The staff's enthusiasm to "always be excited to see your animals" further contributes to a positive and reassuring ambiance. It is likely that the waiting areas are designed to be comfortable, and examination rooms are set up to facilitate thorough yet gentle assessments. The overall impression is one of a caring and professional setting where both the physical and emotional comfort of the animals are prioritized, creating an experience that builds trust and rapport between the clinic and its clientele.

Tompkins Veterinary Services provides a full spectrum of veterinary care, covering various aspects of pet health from preventative medicine to managing complex chronic conditions. Their services would typically include routine wellness examinations, vaccinations tailored to individual pet needs, parasite prevention and control, and microchipping for identification and safety. Beyond preventative care, they offer diagnostic services such as blood work, urinalysis, imaging (like X-rays or ultrasound), to accurately diagnose various illnesses and conditions. The clinic is equipped to handle internal medicine cases, addressing issues related to the heart, lungs, kidneys, gastrointestinal system, and other internal organs. Surgical services for common procedures, including spaying, neutering, and soft tissue surgeries, would also be a standard offering. Furthermore, the testimonial from a client with working animals suggests that Tompkins Veterinary Services, particularly under the care of Dr. Lawlis, also excels in managing the unique health challenges faced by such animals, encompassing both physical and potentially stress-related issues. The ability to address "mental and physical health" for working animals points to a holistic approach to veterinary care, recognizing the interconnectedness of an animal's well-being. This suggests that services may extend to behavioral consultations or referrals, in addition to standard medical treatments. Dental care, which is crucial for overall pet health, would also be a key service, including cleanings, extractions, and addressing oral diseases. Nutritional counseling and weight management are also likely services, given their importance in long-term pet health. Moreover, the emphasis on a strong client-vet relationship implies a commitment to client education, empowering pet owners to make informed decisions about their animal's care.

Several features make Tompkins Veterinary Services a highly recommended choice for pet owners in the Freeville area. Foremost among these is the exceptional dedication and expertise of the veterinary team, particularly Dr. Lawlis, who is highlighted as being deeply understanding of the bond between owners and their pets. The review explicitly mentions Dr. Lawlis's ability to not only "treat your animals" but also to "address the fact that you live with them and know when they are behaving normally and when something is just not right." This feature underscores a personalized approach to care, where owner insights are highly valued and integrated into the diagnostic and treatment process. This level of empathetic engagement sets them apart, moving beyond mere clinical treatment to a partnership in pet care. Another significant feature is the clinic's ability to provide consistent support through various life stages of a pet, from the training of a successor service dog to coping with the loss of a beloved companion. This continuity of care builds immense trust and loyalty. The staff's patience and positive demeanor, even with nervous or anxious animals, is a testament to their professionalism and genuine love for animals. This creates a less stressful experience for pets and fosters a more cooperative environment during examinations and treatments. Their evident expertise in handling "working animals" further demonstrates a breadth of knowledge and specialized skills beyond general pet care, appealing to a diverse clientele. The clinic's ability to ease a nervous dog into a playful state during her first visit speaks volumes about their gentle handling techniques and ability to establish rapport with animals quickly.

Brought my grandma dog Daisy in, and the vet was very friendly and patient with her! This was her first visit, and experience to many other things, so she was nervous at first and even the treats wouldn't ease her but eventually she came through and became playful with the staff! The workers here know what they are doing and are always excited to see your animals.

I have dealt with many vets and even worked for an emergency vet office myself. Until I found Tompkins vet, I have never seen a vet office and staff that has been more caring and compassionate when it came to patient care. My dog was over a year old, and considered a mature spay. Due to certain circumstances, finances have been very tight and this was the first opportunity we had to get her fixed. During her surgery, complications arose, lots of blood was lost, 2 other vets rushed in to help and an emergency blood transfusion was given. I was beyond grateful to hear that my dog was saved but so nervous about what kind of bill I would be receiving. We got to the office late at night to pick her up and the staff was still all there taking care of her when they should have been home by then. We continued to get text that night asking how she was doing and for the next several days as well. The most amazing part other then them saving my dogs life was that they did not charge me 1 penny extra! Other vets, including the one I previously worked at would have charged 5 times my original estimate. Not only was this office amazing they showed true care toward my pet and my family's personal situation and for that I will be forever grateful and will be a lifelong client. I will also highly recommend this office to everyone I come in contact with. We drove about an hour each way to get there and we will do it for each pet we have forever. I couldn't give more thanks for all this staff did!!!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Lawlis and her staff. I shopped around for a good vet in the Ithaca area and was less than impressed until we met Dr. Lawlis. She is incredibly knowledgeable and goes above and beyond for her clients. I am so grateful she opened her clinic
