Well when we got there I thought we were going to have to stand there giving them information that honestly could have waited to be given till after my dog was being seen and cared for. You also would have thought they actually weren't that big fans of animals after all as they seemed almost bored and unconcerned about our issue but the vets who actually took care of her, my dog, were thorough and polite. She has to stay there over night and we are expecting a bill of $1,500 which couldn't come at a worse time but hopefully it is worth it as far as there level of care and making sure she is alright as our fur-babies are family and mean a lot to us

Welcome to Tickle Small Animal Hospital

Tickle Small Animal Hospital, located at 2407 River Dr, Knoxville, TN 37996, USA, operates as a significant Pet Hospital within the landscape of veterinary care in Tennessee. As a part of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, it inherently distinguishes itself by integrating cutting-edge medical practices, advanced diagnostics, and specialized surgical procedures with a commitment to patient care. The designation "Pet Hospital" for Tickle Small Animal Hospital signifies a facility equipped to handle a comprehensive range of animal health issues, from routine care to complex and critical emergencies, often benefiting from the resources and expertise typically found in a university setting. It serves as a vital resource for pet owners in Knoxville and beyond, providing high-level medical intervention for small animals.

The environment at Tickle Small Animal Hospital, as a university-affiliated Pet Hospital, is characterized by a blend of academic rigor and clinical efficiency. While the initial intake process might sometimes feel formal due to the extensive information gathering required, this is often a characteristic of larger, specialized veterinary centers designed to handle complex cases and emergencies with thoroughness. The facility is equipped to manage high-stakes situations, reflected in the prompt action taken during emergencies. One client recounted a staff member "RAN to the lobby to retrieve my poor boy" upon arrival for bloat, demonstrating a rapid response to critical conditions. While initial interactions at the front desk might occasionally be perceived as less overtly emotional, the clinical staff—the veterinarians and technicians directly involved in patient care—are consistently described as "thorough and polite," "very kind and informative." This suggests a professional and focused environment where the priority is efficient and effective medical intervention, particularly in emergency scenarios. The hospital's capacity for overnight stays and intensive care indicates a robust infrastructure designed to support comprehensive treatment and recovery, offering a safe and controlled environment for critically ill or post-surgical animals.

The services provided by Tickle Small Animal Hospital are extensive and highly specialized, reflecting its status as a leading Pet Hospital and a teaching institution. They are well-equipped to handle a wide range of medical conditions, with a particular strength in emergency and critical care. This includes swift diagnosis and treatment for acute conditions such as bloat, as highlighted in a customer review where an English Springer Spaniel underwent successful emergency surgery. The hospital offers advanced surgical capabilities, performed by experienced specialists like Dr. Janas, who is noted for being "very informative and kind." Beyond emergency interventions, one can infer that they provide sophisticated diagnostic services, including advanced imaging (such as ultrasound, CT, or MRI) and comprehensive laboratory testing, given the complexity of cases they manage. Post-operative care is also a critical component of their services, with staff providing "clear instructions, proper meds, and prescription food" for recovery at home. The ability to monitor animals overnight, as mentioned by a client expecting a $1,500 bill for such care, indicates robust inpatient facilities and dedicated veterinary oversight. While not explicitly stated, as a university hospital, they likely also offer specialized services in areas such as internal medicine, oncology, neurology, and cardiology, providing comprehensive care for complex and chronic conditions that might require specialist consultation.

Several features distinguish Tickle Small Animal Hospital within the 'Pet Hospital' category. Its affiliation with the University of Tennessee is a significant advantage, providing access to a broad pool of veterinary specialists, cutting-edge research, and state-of-the-art equipment that might not be available at smaller private practices. This academic environment fosters a culture of continuous learning and advanced medical techniques. The rapid and decisive action during emergencies, as exemplified by the bloat case, showcases their highly trained and responsive emergency team. The direct involvement of specialists like Dr. Basket, who was "very kind and informative while giving me an update and walking me through everything while I was emotional," and Dr. Janas, the surgeon, underscores the expertise available. The comprehensive post-operative support, including allowing owners to visit and assist with feeding, providing frequent updates from staff like Danielle, and supplying detailed discharge instructions, highlights a patient-centered approach to recovery. While initial intake procedures might sometimes feel impersonal to some, the thoroughness of the vets in actual treatment, and their polite and informative communication, are consistently praised. The implicit value of their care is often understood by clients, even when faced with significant costs, because "our fur-babies are family and mean a lot to us," and the level of care is deemed worth it for saving a pet's life.

Promotional information for Tickle Small Animal Hospital is inherently linked to its status as a university-affiliated Pet Hospital. The reputation of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine provides a strong foundation for trust and credibility. Their expertise in handling complex and emergency cases, as evidenced by successful life-saving surgeries for conditions like bloat, serves as a powerful testament to their capabilities. They would likely promote their specialist services, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and emergency care through their university website, professional veterinary associations, and referrals from general practice veterinarians. Testimonials from grateful clients, such as the one expressing "endless gratitude for the team at UT that saved my dog's life," are invaluable promotional assets. While the cost of care can be substantial, the focus on "quality care and making sure she is alright" positions them as a premium service provider for critical situations where expertise is paramount. They may also highlight their role in veterinary education and research, which contributes to advancements in animal medicine. For pet owners facing dire circumstances, the promise of specialized, life-saving intervention and comprehensive post-operative care, even at a higher cost, becomes the primary promotional draw, appealing to those who prioritize the best possible outcome for their cherished pets.

I brought my English Springer Spaniel in late on a Sunday night for bloat. The staff was able to do most of my intake over the phone. When I arrived, someone RAN to the lobby to retrieve my poor boy. Soon, I was met by Dr. Basket who was very kind and informative while giving me an update and walking me through everything while I was emotional. He was put into emergency surgery, done by Dr. Janas, who was also very informative and kind. After surgery, I was allowed to go in to see my dog and try to feed him because he wasn't eating yet. Danielle was also very helpful and gave me frequent updates. They sent my guy home with clear instructions, proper meds, and prescription food. I am endlessly grateful for the team at UT that saved my dog's life. I just keep looking over at him, amazed that he survived. Thank you so much.

We came here for an emergency weekend visit. Our large dog was having some aggression due to being ill. They were patient with him and assured us that they understood. They were having lots of emergencies that day, but I was well advised of the timeframe and the wait expectation. They were thorough with him, and he felt so much better leaving than when he arrived. They addressed his at-home care with everything he would need to be comfortable while recovering. We are so thankful for their expertise, caring, and patience! For some blood tests, anti-nausea meds, 3 take-home meds, fluids, and an exam, we spent almost $400. That was also a surprising amount because we expected a lot more for the service provided. Thank you so much!

I can't begin to express my gratitude to the love and care my baby was treated with. I felt completely safe to trust their word and the cost was very fair too. This is definitely the place I will return to if ever my animals need care
