Amazing place. The vet and staff are amazing. You can definitely tell that they love animal. Word of warning, though, the vet might seem a little rude at first, but once you get to know him, he's cool.

Customer reviews suggest that Thomas Veterinary Hospital is an "Amazing place" with a veterinarian and staff who clearly demonstrate a love for animals. One reviewer noted that while the vet might initially seem "a little rude," he is "cool" once you get to know him, implying that his directness should not be mistaken for a lack of care.
Another reviewer highly praised the veterinarian's knowledge and experience, referring to him as "old school." They recounted an instance where the vet was able to diagnose their dog's issue simply through a physical examination, saving them a significant amount of money compared to an emergency vet's costly "possible Diagnosis." This suggests a high level of diagnostic skill and potentially more affordable pricing. The reviewer also expressed happiness with the doctor, mentioning that he had been treating their Schnauzer since puppyhood, resulting in a very healthy five-year-old dog thanks to a specific diet recommendation (80% chicken breast, 20% veggies and rice) tailored to the breed's tendency towards pancreatitis.
As a "Pet Hospital" in Downey, CA, Thomas Veterinary Hospital appears to offer experienced and knowledgeable veterinary care at potentially more affordable prices. A key feature seems to be the veterinarian's diagnostic abilities and personalized approach to pet health, including dietary recommendations. While the environment and a comprehensive list of services are not detailed, the positive reviews emphasize the expertise of the vet and the caring nature of the staff. Local pet owners seeking an experienced veterinarian with a potentially direct communication style and a focus on effective treatment and preventative care may find Thomas Veterinary Hospital to be a valuable resource.

Apr 10, 2025 · Jhoab BHe is a very knowledgeable Vet, old school, just touching my dog in her tummy was able to tell me what was wrong with her which the emergency charge me $2,300.00 with a “possible Diagnosis”. His prices are great. I am very happy with this Dr. He started treating my Schnauzer since she was 4 mo. old, now she is 5 and a very healthy dog thanks to the diet he told me to put her on. Chicken breast 80%, 20%veggies and rice since these dogs tend to get pancreatitis.
May 16, 2024 · Norma cesareodoctor used to be good and took care of our dogs, but recently hes been out of it. he talks to himself, and gives you a bad attitude. i dont know what his problem is, but hes a smart ass now and rushed us out saying our dog needs an xray, but he didnt have time to do it so he sent us to a different vet. horrible experience, the new assistants are a little off as well, not welcoming at all
Jan 18, 2025 · Lorena RodriguezThis vet is a very small office with a “tiny but mighty” team. They’re only open M-F from 9-11 a.m. / 3-4 p.m., and then 8-11 a.m. on Saturdays. They operate on a first come, first served basis because of the limited staff, so you’ll need to get here at least 30 minutes before opening (they cut off the line). Thank you so much to Dr. Shargani, Kimberly, Crystal, Jackie and Gaby for consistently providing amazing and affordable care for my doggo!
Jan 25, 2025 · Jazmin LuceroI’ve been coming here since 2013, and the vet is excellent. He’s taken care of our 3 dogs, several foster cats and dogs, 7 cats, and a few strays for us. He’s always accurate and never overcharges. Compared to places like VCA, he’s saved us thousands of dollars. For example, in 2018, my dogs ate alcohol-filled dark chocolate truffles that they found inside a wrapped gift to me. Thomas was closed for lunch so I rushed them to nearby VCA. They charged $1,000 to pump their stomachs and quoted $3,000 more for continued treatment, warning their kidneys might shut down. Scared, I called Thomas, who had just reopened from lunch. His staff told me to rush them over if they were stable enough. He treated both dogs, including an overnight stay, for under $400. Since then, I’ve learned they are handling surgeries and after-surgery care during lunch so if something ever happens again I can rush them over and knock on the side door. Here are a few things to know about this clinic: • Older Facility: Don’t expect the fancy decor or high-tech equipment you’d see at VCA. It’s a simple setup, which I appreciate. • Walk-In Only: Unless your pet is having surgery, it’s first-come, first-serve. Arrive 30 minutes early to line up, or even up to an hour, especially on Mondays and Saturdays, which are the busiest. • The Vet’s Style: He’s not always warm and fuzzy with people, but he’s amazing with animals and genuinely loves them. Once, he scolded me for not following up on an issue, then kissed my dog on the head a moment later. • Lunch Breaks: They care for surgical animals during the lunch break, so if they’re closed, it’s for a good reason. • One Vet, Six Days a Week: He’s the sole vet and works tirelessly. His walk-in system is great especially for urgent needs, unlike other practices that require appointments.
