Having been our vet for years, we took our lab when we found a lump on his ear. Instead of getting a sample with a needle, she hacked a piece off his ear to"quickly send to get tested" and sent us home with what we later found out was Vaseline and a pain med. Days went by with no word as the ear got worse and started to smell bad. We called and she told us she would call to check on test and she would call back. Two days later we called and she said he had a fast spreading infection and it was probably best to take the ear completely off. I was horrified. We contacted another vet in the area who was appalled at the procedures of Village Vet. They took a small needle, did a test in house and found out it was cancer. When the big chunk was cut from his ear it made it spread like wildfire. The new vet was wonderful and tried to help andmade him comfortable for the next week when our boy was just out of energy and in too much pain and had to be put to sleep. I know cancer would have eventually taken him, but we could have had meds and he could have had alot more time if diagnosed correctly by someone who actually cared.

The Village Vet Introduce

Welcome to The Village Vet, located at 16 S 3rd St in Waterville, Ohio. While this listing falls under the category of Pet Hospital Near You, it is imperative for local users to be aware of extremely concerning feedback from recent customers that raises serious questions about the quality of veterinary care and the professional conduct at this clinic.

The environment and procedures at The Village Vet have been described in alarming terms by multiple reviewers. One pet owner detailed a situation where a significant piece was "hacked" off their dog's ear for a biopsy, a procedure deemed inappropriate by another veterinarian. This was followed by a misdiagnosis and a lack of timely communication, ultimately leading to the pet's suffering and premature death due to allegedly hastened cancer spread. Another customer reported a severe injury to their cat – a visible hole in the ear – following a routine spay surgery, accompanied by what they described as lies and deception from the clinic staff to cover up the incident.

The services offered at The Village Vet reportedly include routine procedures like lump biopsies and spay surgeries. However, the quality of these services, based on the provided reviews, is severely in question. One instance involved an inappropriate biopsy technique, a significant misdiagnosis, and a lack of proper follow-up. Another involved a surgical error resulting in a serious injury to a pet, followed by alleged dishonesty and a lack of accountability from the clinic. These accounts suggest potential issues with diagnostic procedures, surgical competence, and post-operative care.

The features of The Village Vet, based on the overwhelmingly negative recent feedback, are cause for serious concern. The alleged improper medical procedures, misdiagnosis with severe consequences, and apparent negligence leading to injury are significant red flags. The accusations of dishonesty and unethical professional conduct further compound these concerns. Local users seeking a trusted Pet Hospital Near You are strongly advised to consider these critical reviews and exercise extreme caution when considering The Village Vet for their pet's care. The experiences reported suggest a potential lack of competence and questionable ethical practices.

Currently, there is no positive promotional information available for The Village Vet. The severity of the negative experiences reported by multiple customers serves as a strong warning against entrusting the care of your pets to this clinic.

Below is the e-mail I sent to the Ohio board for Veterinarians. I am truly appalled by this entire situation. If you have had good luck here, God bless you, but I must categorically say this veterinarian can be in no way recommended and has extremely questionable professional ethics. I received my cat back today from a spay surgery. I dropped her off at the Village Vet in Waterville Ohio at 8:45 AM yesterday as agreed. That afternoon I was contacted and told to wait to pick her up until the following day, although we arranged for a 4:30 PM pick up the same day. I asked if anything was wrong that could explain the deviation from the original plan and they said no, they just wanted to keep her for another day. I picked her up 20 minutes ago and when I arrived home, she had a hole where light could visibly be seen shining through her ear. When I called the vet office, I was told repeatedly, "she got nicked" "It's fine it will heal", and "come back in 10 - 14 days to have the stitches removed". I never received an explanation for how this could have happened. I specifically said, "how did my cat having surgery on her abdomen get a hole in her ear." They were just throwing random excuses at me. At one point in time they even said she did it to herself. I am disgusted right now, and would like this to be noted. This office injured my pet through negligence and then lied to try to cover the excuse. It seems obvious that this is why she was kept overnight as opposed to the original plan. Accidents happen, I'm fine with that. Outright deception is disgusting and should disqualify this veterinarian professionally. I strongly recommend you reconsider licensure of this office and veterinarian.

I do not normally leave reviews. I don't like to say negative things because I know that things can happen sometimes. However, after taking my puppy here and reading that so many other people had bad experiences, I need to. I heard about this place after signing up for planned pethood. This is not our normal vet. We took our puppy here to get spayed. We had gotten her for our kids as a Christmas present. This would have been the first time that she left the house for an overnight visit. My kids were upset, but we were assured that they would call us as soon as the surgery was over. We took her in on a Thursday morning and she was set to have surgery that day. We were told she had to stay overnight for observation (although I don't believe anyone stays with them) and then we could pick her up Friday morning. I waited all morning on Thursday for an update about surgery and nothing. At 2pm I called to see how she did and I was told that she never had the surgery. They got too busy and she would have it the next day. Wouldn't you think that they would have called to let us know that??? So, I was assured she would have the surgery Friday morning and would hear from them with an update as soon as she was done. Friday morning came and went and I again didn't hear anything, so I called the office again. It was 1pm. She still hadn't been taken in for surgery!!! At this point I'm wondering how long it had been since she had eaten. I was told they were about to take her in for the surgery. Thankfully, everything went ok (after reading other reviews some weren't so lucky) and we were able to pick her up Saturday morning. For my kids that was an eternity! I was very displeased with the lack of communication. Also, her incision was very jagged. Didn't at all look professional. I wish I had read these reviews before taking her in. I would not recommend this vet at all!!!!

The vet herself is great, informative, and caring for the animals. However, the staff’s organization and care lacks. After my kitten’s first vaccinations he was given so many extra treatments, and I was told to being him back for his second round of shots without any specific time period. I took him back 5 weeks later and they didn’t have any record of him, asked if he was a dog in my appointment confirmation, and was told that the first vaccines were null and now he needed his adult shots. When I was getting ready to leave they came back to get my cat because they said someone had weighed him in as 8 lbs on his first visit (he was 2 lbs at the time - maybe 2.5). They then charged me for a second prepaid fecal and again so many extra treatments I wasn’t even asked about or informed of until after they had been given. When I went back inside after realizing I had another prepaid fecal (which I already had from my first visit) the woman at the desk tried to talk me into keeping it and then just refunded me in cash. Like I said - the vet is great, but the rest of the staff ruins it. Not to mention to extra money I have spent on treatments that could have been done at home or deemed optional.

The ladies at the Village Vet have done great for my buddy, Swanson. Swanson met Dr. O'Desky shortly after he was adopted and treated him very well. Every time I called with an issue, she was able to make room to get him in if she felt it was a situation where he needed to be seen right away. She properly diagnosed his heart condition 3 years ago, and was able to get Swanson and I a great 3 additional years together. She prescribed the right meds and even offered a deal on some of the more expensive medications. Sadly, dogs don't live forever and doc had a good conversation with me. Between her, Chris, and the other employees, they were compassionate and helped me through the process. A few days ago, Swanson indicated that it was time for him to go and I scheduled an appointment for him to be "put to sleep." Chris got me in the same day, and scheduled me at the end of the day after all other customers had left. When I arrived they assisted with carrying Swanson to the exam table which was covered in a soft red blanket with tissues nearby, they also had a candle lit for us in the lobby. The staff gave us all the time we needed and allowed me to stay with Swanson until he passed away peacefully. The staff was incredibly compassionate and I wasn't the only one in tears. I noticed some negative reviews, and I think reviewers need to understand that the Village Vet is a small town vet clinic. This isn't some large facility in the city that has multiple vets on staff. My experience was nothing like the other reviewers. To me Dr. O'Desky is a seasoned veterinarian and when you walk in it's clear that your pet is number one. She offers very direct advice and recommendations. I have taken her for her word since I met her and she has never steered me wrong. I highly recommend the Village Vet.
