Recommended by my local parents and their boxers. After a scary “reaction” at my primary and emergency vet. I finally decided it was best to have my boxer checked out for allergy symptoms of itching, licking paws and stomach issues. I used the text option to quickly get an appointment and send over my vet records. And bonus, I was coming from Maryland, about 8 hours away. The office was not scary for my dog as we were in the waiting area. With a rug and couch for our visit. See my mom pictured with Riley. I had all my questions and concerns addressed with a good preventative plan in place. I left with a toolbox of options. I am happy to say my Riley is doing great, and I am happy I have the tools I need to continue to care for her and the resource of the itch clinic team to help me along the way. Thank you!

Welcome to The Itch Clinic

The Itch Clinic, located at 8078 Kingston Pike #119, Knoxville, TN 37919, USA, is a highly specialized "Pet Hospital" that stands apart by focusing exclusively on veterinary dermatology. This clinic is a dedicated resource for pet owners whose animals suffer from chronic itching, allergies, ear infections, and other complex skin conditions. Unlike a general veterinary practice, The Itch Clinic offers in-depth expertise and tailored solutions for dermatological issues, ensuring that pets receive the focused care they need for these often frustrating and persistent problems.

The environment at The Itch Clinic is thoughtfully designed to minimize stress and maximize comfort for both pets and their owners. Upon entering, clients are immediately struck by the unique waiting area, which is described as an "actual living room." This welcoming space, complete with a rug and a couch, starkly contrasts with the often sterile and anxiety-inducing standard veterinary waiting rooms. This "home-like feel" is crucial for putting pets at ease, as noted by a client whose dog, Riley, found the office "not scary." This calming atmosphere is a deliberate feature, recognizing that pets with chronic conditions may require frequent visits and a less stressful environment can significantly improve their experience.

The services offered at The Itch Clinic are highly specialized and comprehensive, exclusively addressing dermatological conditions in pets. These services include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnosis of Skin and Ear Conditions: They excel in identifying the root causes of itching, licking, scratching, recurrent ear infections, hair loss, and other dermatological symptoms. This often involves a detailed history, physical examination, and various diagnostic tests.

  • Allergy Testing and Management: A primary focus is on diagnosing and managing pet allergies, which are a common cause of chronic itching. This includes various forms of allergy testing to identify specific allergens.

  • Immunotherapy: For pets with environmental allergies, the clinic offers immunotherapy (allergy shots or oral drops), which is a long-term treatment designed to desensitize the pet to allergens and reduce allergic reactions.

  • Management of Chronic Otitis (Ear Infections): Given that many ear infections are secondary to underlying skin conditions like allergies, the clinic provides specialized diagnosis and long-term management strategies for recurrent or chronic ear problems.

  • Treatment of Autoimmune Skin Diseases: They have expertise in diagnosing and managing complex autoimmune skin disorders that require specialized therapeutic approaches.

  • Paw and Stomach Issues Related to Allergies: As noted in a customer review, they address symptoms like paw licking and stomach issues, which are often linked to underlying allergies.

  • Personalized Treatment Plans: Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, they develop individualized treatment strategies, often involving a series of steps to try, providing a "toolbox of options" for pet owners.

  • Medication Management: All necessary medications are typically included, simplifying the process for pet owners and ensuring they have the tools needed for their pet's care.

The key features of The Itch Clinic revolve around its highly specialized nature and client-centric approach. The dedicated focus on dermatology means their veterinarians and staff possess deep expertise in this specific area of veterinary medicine, often succeeding where general practitioners may have reached their limits. The "Fear Free" style environment, exemplified by the living-room waiting area, is a significant feature that prioritizes pet comfort and reduces anxiety during visits. The staff's approach is consistently described as "very friendly and attentive," ensuring all questions and concerns are thoroughly addressed without making clients feel rushed. The clinic's willingness to accommodate clients traveling long distances, as demonstrated by the patient from Maryland, underscores their reputation as a go-to specialist for complex cases.

For promotional information, The Itch Clinic primarily relies on its reputation for specialized care and positive word-of-mouth referrals. The glowing reviews from clients who have found relief for their pets after struggling with chronic issues serve as powerful testimonials. While specific traditional "promotional offers" like discounts are not detailed, the value proposition is clear: expert, specialized care that leads to tangible improvements in a pet's quality of life. The clinic makes it easy for clients to get appointments, offering convenient options like text messaging for scheduling and sending vet records, which is particularly beneficial for those traveling from afar. They aim to provide a "preventative plan" and a "toolbox of options," indicating a long-term partnership in managing pet health rather than just a one-off treatment. The clinic's phone number, (800) 621-1370, serves as the primary contact for inquiries and appointments.

Customer reviews strongly reinforce the clinic's effectiveness and compassionate approach. One client, whose boxer suffered from severe itching, licking, and stomach issues, expressed immense relief after visiting The Itch Clinic. They highlighted the ease of getting an appointment via text, even from 8 hours away, and the comforting "living room" waiting area. Most importantly, they left with a "good preventative plan" and a "toolbox of options," leading to their dog Riley "doing great." Another review echoed the sentiment about the welcoming waiting room and praised the doctor and staff for their friendliness and attentiveness. This client appreciated the thorough diagnosis and the "series of steps to try," which included all necessary medications, leaving them "very satisfied" with their visit. These reviews collectively underscore The Itch Clinic's expertise in pet dermatology, their commitment to a positive client and patient experience, and their success in providing lasting relief for pets suffering from chronic skin conditions.

The first thing you notice when entering is that the waiting room is an actual living room! That's a nice change of pace from the standard and it gives you a "home-like" feel and puts you at ease. The doctor and his staff are very friendly and attentive to all your needs and questions. We were given a thorough diagnosis of our cat's problem and a series of steps to try from one to four, should the prior ones be ineffective. All the meds were included and we were very satisfied with our trip to The Itch Clinic.

Dr. Hnilica and his staff create individualized plans for each animal who are needing extra TLC for allergies and skin issues. The staff are dedicated to helping your pet and explaining the details thoroughly and walking through the processes of different medications and treatments. The staff is also dedicated to following up with the patients and redirecting the treatment plan, if needed. The office is well maintained and is a safe environment for pets. I trust my doberman’s health in their hands and am grateful for their dedication to his health.

This place has changed my dog’s life for the better. Dr. Hnilica and his staff are so knowledgeable and caring. My golden retriever’s skin allergies have improved so much since her starting care. I highly recommend if your animal is itchy or has skin problems!

Service is next level! The key to any pet lovers heart is to love their fur babies like their owner does. The team at IC Knoxville really do get that and they always treat Smalls like a celebrity! They always make my itchy Pug, Smalls, feel so comfortable. They dote on him and tell him what a good boy he is 🥰 Immediately taking down any anxiety. Doors aren’t closed; they use baby gates instead. But Smalls usually doesn’t even seem nervous to walk in. They are all dog first. Business second. They take time and actually listen to concerns, too. For example I like to do things a more homeopathic way when possible. So they’re not only open to that but suggesting other avenues so that we don’t have to give Smalls meds if we don’t want to introduce them. I never feel rushed. I always feel heard. I just love ❤️ this place! Our vet referred us here maybe 2 years ago when they were stumped with Smalls’ itching. So glad to have the IC as a trusted partner for helping us cater for our sweet Smalls.
