Kept trying to get my parakeet in to be looked at. Told them how bad this lump on his foot was. He was in a lot of pain. They gave me an appointment a couple weeks away even after I said he couldn't wait. Poor guy finally chewed his toe off. When I called to cancel his appointment they kind of giggled when I said what happened. Watching that poor little guy go through that was horrible

Welcome to Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic
Located at 214 School Ave, Clearfield, PA 16830, USA, Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic serves as a vital 'Pet Hospital' providing comprehensive veterinary care to the local community. For appointments and inquiries, they can be reached at (814) 765-6541 or +1 814-765-6541. This clinic aims to offer a full spectrum of services, ranging from routine preventative care to advanced medical and surgical treatments, catering to the health and well-being of dogs, cats, and even exotic pets.
The atmosphere at Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic is generally described as welcoming and caring, particularly by those who appreciate the staff's genuine concern for the animals. Many clients report that the technicians and staff make an effort to know each animal by name, treating them as "welcome guests." This personalized approach contributes to a more comfortable experience for pets, which can be crucial during what might otherwise be a stressful visit to the vet. The clinic strives to create an environment where compassion and excellence in care are evident, reflecting their stated passion for their clients and the community.
However, it is also important to note that due to their commitment to taking emergency cases, clients should be prepared for potential wait times, even with an appointment. This indicates a clinic that prioritizes urgent needs, a valuable service for pet owners in times of crisis, but something to keep in mind for routine visits.
Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic provides a comprehensive array of veterinary services, designed to address the diverse needs of companion animals. Their offerings include:
Preventative Care: A cornerstone of their practice, this includes thorough physical examinations, tailored vaccination schedules, and robust parasite control programs. They emphasize proactive health management to prevent diseases and promote long-term wellness.
Diagnostic Services: The clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools to accurately assess pet health. This includes an in-house laboratory for quick results on serum chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and parasite testing. They also offer digital radiography (X-rays) for precise imaging of bones, organs, and dental structures, and on-site ultrasound capabilities. For more specialized diagnostics, they utilize external veterinary laboratories and can provide referrals to specialists when needed.
Medical Treatments: They manage a wide range of medical conditions, from common illnesses to more complex or chronic diseases, providing accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
Surgical Procedures: The veterinarians are experienced in various surgical interventions, including routine procedures like spaying and neutering, as well as more complex soft tissue surgeries such as growth removals, C-sections, and gastrointestinal operations. Patient safety and comfort are prioritized with careful monitoring during all surgical procedures.
Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are available, including professional teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays to assess sub-gingival health, and tooth extractions when necessary. They understand the importance of oral health to overall well-being.
Nutrition and Dietary Counseling: Recognizing the critical role of diet in pet health, the clinic offers guidance on nutritional needs for all life stages, weight management, and prescription diets for specific medical conditions. They are an authorized retailer for Purina Prescription diets and can script other brands through online retailers.
Acupuncture: A unique feature of their services, Dr. Lisa Whalen provides acupuncture for pets, having completed specialized training in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. This alternative therapy can be beneficial for various conditions, including pain management and chronic issues.
Permanent Identification: They offer microchipping services, which provide a reliable method for identifying pets and increasing the chances of reunion if a pet becomes lost.
Online Pharmacy: For client convenience, Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic partners with an online pharmacy (Covetrus Pharmacy and Vets First Choice) allowing clients to order prescription medications, food, and supplies directly to their homes. They also offer rebates on popular medications.
CareCredit: To help manage veterinary costs, the clinic supports CareCredit, a healthcare credit card that allows clients to finance veterinary expenses over time.
ePet Health: This online portal provides clients with access to their pet’s medical records, health service reminders via text or email, appointment reminders, and an online breed library.
The clinic's strong point, as highlighted by many positive reviews, is the perceived level of concern and care from the staff. They are described as friendly and helpful, with a noticeable effort to treat pets as individuals. This compassionate approach extends to the veterinarians, who are reported to spend ample time discussing conditions and treatment options with pet owners. The sentiment that pets are "like children" for their owners resonates strongly with the clinic's staff, making clients feel their beloved animals are in good hands.
However, a critical review points to a potential area for improvement in handling non-critical or chronic cases, specifically regarding scheduling and communication for animals in pain. While the clinic's policy to take emergency cases is beneficial for urgent situations, it can sometimes lead to extended wait times for scheduled appointments, as noted by another client. The experience with the parakeet highlights the importance of assessing the urgency of all cases, even for less common pets, and ensuring timely, empathetic communication with pet owners.
Despite this isolated critical feedback, the overall sentiment is that the quality of care and the genuine kindness of the staff make the services well worth the investment, even if they are perceived as "expensive." This suggests that clients value the comprehensive, compassionate care provided.
Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic promotes itself through its comprehensive service offerings and its commitment to compassionate patient care. Their online presence, including an online pharmacy and ePet Health portal, demonstrates a commitment to modern convenience for their clients. They accept CareCredit to make veterinary care more accessible financially, and actively communicate available rebates on medications. While direct promotional offers should always be confirmed by contacting the clinic directly, their consistent focus on high-quality medical services for dogs, cats, and exotic pets, coupled with a caring staff, serves as their primary draw within the Clearfield community. The clinic's hours are typically Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, though it's always best to call ahead for current hours and to schedule appointments at (814) 765-6541.

Apr 09, 2025 · Diane BrinkExpensive! But given that my pets are like my children the level of concern and care from the staff is well worth the money. Techs know each animal by name and always treat them like welcome guests. I highly suggest making an appointment, but be prepared, even with one sometimes there's a wait because they take emergency cases too.
Jan 15, 2025 · Raider SoccerI would like to thank the amazing vet and vet technician for all their wonderful care and kindness with having to say goodbye to our 15 year old dog. During this time, the vet tech also took every possible step to check and make sure our dog was treated with the utmost care. She made sure I had every bit of time with her and I want to especially recognize that because of her compassion and grace that I can look back and say making such a hard decision was a little bit easier because of how she handled the process. I picked her ashes up today & found that she had drawn a heart on the bag, with our dogs name. Including a paw print of my sweet girl, and a piece of paper with prints when I received her ashes. Thank you for being you. Thank you for providing the proper care and kindness every animal deserves including mine in such a difficult situation.

Jan 27, 2025 · Sean BryanOur 13 year old lab mix was not feeling well. We weren't sure where to take him due to the sudden closure of our long time veterinary clinic. We decided to try Susquehanna Veternary Clinic and glad we did. Dr. Saathoff spent over an hour with us over the course of two visits discussing Maxx's condition. After a few weeks of treatment he is back to normal. Everyone in the office was friendly and helpful. Thank you Susquahanna Veterinary Clinic. 🐾
