I have had cats as patients here since 1994. At that time I owned one Persian cat. He lived to be 16 under the amazing care of Dr. James Downey. When it was my cats time to pass, Dr Downey was compassionate and made what was a very sad time for me, less tolerable. Four months later, I bought two Persian kittens from the former cats breeder. They were sickly the first year with feline herpes virus. Eye ulcers... it was painful for them, and very expensive to me. But I love these two. Dr. Dorney worked out a wonderful solution to heal them that cut the astronomical costs I would have had with a vet specialist. They have not had an eye ulcer since. My two cats are healthy, but are inbred. This has always been an issue (and a plug for getting stray cats everywhere). Grooming has been an issue from day one. Nevertheless, I have full confidence in Summit Dog and Cat Hospital and their crew, which have tolerated my cats and me since 1994. I moved to Florida in 2013 and found horrific animal care. I had to leave in May 2017 and return to NJ without my cats. I was reunited with them last week. Despite expensive care and transportation in my absence, they were terribly matted and smelled badly. Today they went to see Dr. Dorney. They are healthy, vibrant and clean. Best homecoming ever! Thank you Olga! Thank everyone for this wonderful place that truly cares about your pets because they are your family. I highly recommend Summit Dog & Cat Hospital.

Based on the available reviews, the environment at Summit Dog & Cat Hospital appears to be one where many pet owners have found compassionate and effective care over the years. One long-term client recounts experiences dating back to 1994, highlighting the "amazing care" provided by the late Dr. James Downey and later by Dr. Dorney. This suggests a history of dedication to animal well-being within the practice. The return of a client after moving out of state and experiencing subpar veterinary care elsewhere further underscores the positive reputation the hospital has built within its clientele. The mention of a welcoming return and successful care after a period of absence indicates a commitment to the health and comfort of their patients.

As a "Pet Hospital," Summit Dog & Cat Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Dorney Kirsten J DVM offers a range of veterinary services for both cats and dogs. Based on the detailed customer testimonials, these services likely include:

  • General Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups are a fundamental aspect of pet care, and the long-term patronage of clients suggests that Summit Dog & Cat Hospital provides these essential examinations.
  • Vaccinations: Protecting pets from preventable diseases through timely vaccinations is a standard service offered at most veterinary hospitals.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Illnesses: The detailed account of the Persian kittens suffering from feline herpes virus and eye ulcers, and Dr. Dorney's successful treatment plan, showcases the hospital's ability to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions.
  • Ophthalmological Care: Dr. Dorney's expertise in resolving the eye ulcers in the kittens, avoiding the need for a specialist and associated high costs, indicates a level of competence in ophthalmological issues.
  • Management of Chronic Conditions: The ongoing care for the inbred cats with grooming issues suggests that the hospital provides support for pets with chronic or recurring needs.
  • Compassionate End-of-Life Care: The heartfelt recollection of Dr. James Downey's compassionate handling of a pet's passing highlights the hospital's understanding and support during difficult times.
  • Grooming Advice and Potential Services: While grooming was noted as an ongoing issue for one client's cats, the fact that it was mentioned in the context of their care suggests that the hospital may offer grooming advice or potentially grooming services.
  • Follow-Up and Continued Care: The successful return to health of the client's cats after a period of neglect elsewhere and their subsequent visit to Dr. Dorney for care indicates a commitment to ongoing health management.

The features that have contributed to Summit Dog & Cat Hospital's reputation as a trusted "Pet Hospital" appear to include:

  • Long-Standing History of Care: Serving the community since at least 1994 indicates stability and a wealth of experience in veterinary medicine.

  • Compassionate Approach to Pet Care: The отзыв regarding end-of-life care underscores the empathetic and supportive nature of the hospital's team.
  • Dedication to Patient Well-being: The successful rehabilitation of the returning cats after a period of neglect showcases a commitment to restoring pets to health.
  • Trust and Confidence of Long-Term Clients: The decades-long relationship of some clients with the hospital speaks volumes about the trust they have in the care provided.

However, it is crucial to note a more recent negative review that presents a contrasting perspective. This отзыв describes an "horrific experience" with Dr. Dorney, citing concerns about condescending and rude behavior, a perceived lack of willingness to answer questions, and suspicion regarding financial motivations related to at-home blood sugar testing for a diabetic dog. This отзыв led the clients to leave the practice and take their records with them. This more recent feedback suggests that while many clients have had positive experiences over a long period, there may be inconsistencies in customer service or communication styles.

Given the mixed feedback, it is challenging to definitively state current promotional information. Historically, a practice with such a long-standing presence might rely more on its reputation than active promotions. However, potential offerings could include:

  • New Client Specials: To attract new patients, the hospital might offer a discount on the first visit or a specific service.
  • Wellness Packages: Bundled services for routine care, such as annual exams and vaccinations, could be available at a discounted rate.
  • Senior Pet Discounts: Given the history of caring for pets into their senior years, they might offer special pricing for older animals.
  • Multi-Pet Discounts: For households with multiple cats and dogs, discounts for bringing in more than one pet for services might be available.

To obtain the most accurate and current information about the environment, the full range of services offered by Summit Dog & Cat Hospital under the care of Dr. Dorney Kirsten J DVM, and any potential promotional offers, it is advisable to contact them directly at (908) 273-2200 or +1 908-273-2200. While the majority of the long-term feedback is positive, the recent negative review regarding customer service should also be considered by prospective clients. It highlights the importance of direct communication and finding a veterinary practice whose communication style and approach align with your needs and expectations. Summit Dog & Cat Hospital has a history of dedicated care, and engaging with them directly will provide the most comprehensive understanding of their current practices.

In conclusion, Summit Dog & Cat Hospital under the care of Dr. Dorney Kirsten J DVM in Summit, NJ, has a long history of providing veterinary care for cats and dogs, with many clients expressing strong trust and satisfaction over decades. The hospital has demonstrated expertise in treating complex conditions and offers compassionate end-of-life care. However, a recent отзыв raises concerns about customer service and communication. Prospective clients are encouraged to consider the long-standing positive reputation alongside the more recent feedback and to contact the hospital directly to assess if their services and approach meet their individual needs and expectations for their beloved pets.

I had the most horrific experience this morning with Dr. Dorney. We have been going here for 15 years. Our dog was diagnosed with diabetes last week. We came in this morning for a one week check to see how she is doing and how we are doing as her parents and caretakers. Dr. Dorney was extremely condescending and Rude to my husband and I. When we asked her questions, she acted like we should know the answer. The more we research and speak to other vets, the more we realize we should be testing their blood sugar at home. Dr. Dorney told us not to- she’s the only professional we have talked to that has said this to us. Why? Because she wants to money. She is disrespectful, untrustworthy, and has no compassion. Do NOT go here. We took all of our records this morning and left.

I've been to a decent amount of vets in my life and this one by far is the worst. Found a lump on my cat and went here because it was convenient, big mistake. Surgery was quoted at $1400 - charged me $1700. After the surgery - just handed my cat to me with no instructions on next steps - just "here he his". Came back to get his stitches out, they take them out and come back with "keep the cone on longer - cats can be tricky, no other explanation". I will be sure to go somewhere else. I hope you do to.
