Haven't taken my dog to a vet in about 6 years. I decided to register him at the southtowns animal hospital in West Seneca. There was a four week waiting period to get appointment for the first time. The day of the visit went very smoothly, My dog had some issues which the vet took some time doing a thorough exam. My dog was 12 years old so I made clear I wasn't going to spend $10,000. He gave me many options of all the things that could be done which were relatively low in cost. The experience was very positive And I will be returning as they will now be my full-time Vet going forward.

For pets, especially those who may be anxious about vet visits, a gentle and loving approach from the staff can make a profound difference, as demonstrated by Biscuit's eagerness.
For a Pet Hospital, a positive and professional environment typically includes:
- Clean and Organized Spaces: Essential for maintaining hygiene and preventing the spread of illness, ensuring a safe setting for all patients and staff.
- Comfortable Waiting Area: A space designed to be calm and accommodating for pets and their owners, potentially with separate areas for dogs and cats to reduce stress.
- Multiple Examination Rooms: Private and well-equipped rooms where veterinarians can conduct thorough examinations and have discussions with pet owners.
- Treatment and Surgical Areas: Dedicated spaces with appropriate lighting, ventilation, and equipment for medical treatments, minor procedures, and complex surgeries.
- Compassionate Handling: As evidenced by the review, the staff's gentle approach to handling animals is a key component of the clinic's positive environment, fostering trust and reducing fear in pets.

As a full-service Pet Hospital, Southtowns Animal Hospital offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services designed to support the health and well-being of pets throughout their lives. These services typically encompass:
- Preventive and Wellness Care: This forms the cornerstone of proactive pet health management. It includes routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols for various diseases (e.g., rabies, distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, kennel cough for dogs; feline leukemia, rabies, FVRCP for cats), comprehensive parasite control programs (flea, tick, and heartworm prevention and testing, deworming), and nutritional counseling to support optimal health and weight.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately identify health issues, the hospital would be equipped with various diagnostic tools. This typically includes in-house laboratory capabilities for rapid blood tests (e.g., complete blood count, chemistry panels), urinalysis, and fecal analysis. Diagnostic imaging, such as digital radiography (X-rays), is standard for evaluating skeletal structures, internal organs, and identifying foreign bodies.
- Surgical Procedures: The hospital is capable of performing a wide range of surgeries, from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries (e.g., mass removals, abdominal surgeries) and potentially some orthopedic procedures. This involves pre-surgical evaluations, safe anesthesia protocols, and post-operative pain management.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive oral health services are crucial for overall pet wellness. This would include professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing under anesthesia), extractions of diseased teeth, and guidance on at-home dental hygiene practices to prevent periodontal disease.
- Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of various internal diseases affecting organ systems, such as diabetes, thyroid conditions, kidney disease, and gastrointestinal disorders. This often involves thorough diagnostic work-ups and long-term management plans.
- Pain Management: Utilizing various modalities to manage acute and chronic pain, including medication and therapeutic approaches.
- Microchipping: A vital service for permanent identification, significantly increasing the chances of a lost pet being reunited with its owner.
- Senior Pet Care: Specialized programs and diagnostics tailored to the unique health needs of older pets, focusing on managing age-related conditions and maintaining quality of life.
- Referral Services: For highly specialized cases that require expertise beyond their scope (e.g., advanced oncology, highly complex neurology), the hospital would provide referrals to veterinary specialists.
The review mentioning that the "vet took some time doing a thorough exam" and offered "many options...which were relatively low in cost" highlights a personalized approach to care and a willingness to discuss various treatment pathways, considering the pet's age and the owner's budget, which is a significant aspect of client-centered veterinary medicine.
Southtowns Animal Hospital distinguishes itself with several key features that resonate with its client base:
- Compassionate and Client-Focused Approach: The core strength lies in its "friendly" staff who "really love our Biscuit" and a "Doc" who is "always gentle." This humane approach to animal care ensures pets feel comfortable and safe during visits. The practice also demonstrates a strong commitment to client education, with staff and vets always ready to "answer my questions and give me great advice."
- Thorough Examinations and Diagnostic Acuity: The veterinarian's willingness to take "some time doing a thorough exam" for a 12-year-old dog indicates a dedication to comprehensive assessment, which is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
- Budget-Conscious and Option-Oriented Care: A standout feature is the practice's sensitivity to client budgets. The vet offering "many options of all the things that could be done which were relatively low in cost" when facing a potentially expensive situation shows a commitment to making quality care accessible and manageable, rather than pushing for the most expensive solutions. This builds significant trust and loyalty.
- Building Long-Term Relationships: The sentiment "I will be returning as they will now be my full-time Vet going forward" from a new client, and the long-standing relationship evident with "our Biscuit," indicates that the hospital excels at fostering trust and becoming a permanent partner in pet health.
- Accessibility and Open Communication: The staff and doctor's readiness to answer questions and provide advice reflects an open communication policy, ensuring pet owners feel informed and empowered in their pet's care journey.
The testimonials from real customers serve as excellent promotional material for Southtowns Animal Hospital, highlighting its strengths and client satisfaction. Their promotional message would strongly emphasize:
- Compassionate and Gentle Care: Leveraging phrases like "friendly and really love our Biscuit," "always gentle," and the pet's positive reaction ("She loves going there"). This speaks directly to pet owners' desire for their animals to be treated with kindness and respect.
- Thorough and Thoughtful Veterinary Expertise: Promoting the vet's dedication to "a thorough exam" and providing "many options" to suit different needs and budgets. This demonstrates both medical competence and a client-centered approach to care.
- Trust and Reliability: Highlighting that clients feel confident returning for future care ("I will be returning as they will now be my full-time Vet going forward") and highly recommend the hospital. This builds credibility and encourages new client acquisition.
- Open Communication and Education: Emphasizing that the "doc and staff always answer my questions and give me great advice," positioning the hospital as a resource for pet owner education and support.
- Affordability and Value: The positive feedback regarding "relatively low in cost" options is a significant selling point, especially for pet owners concerned about veterinary expenses. This positions the hospital as providing quality care without unnecessary financial burden.
The initial challenge of a "four week waiting period to get appointment for the first time" suggests high demand, which in itself can be a positive indicator of the hospital's reputation and quality of service. While this might be a point to manage expectations for new clients, the overwhelmingly positive experience once inside the hospital clearly outweighs the initial wait for many. Overall, Southtowns Animal Hospital's client testimonials paint a picture of a highly recommended, compassionate, and value-oriented Pet Hospital that prioritizes both the well-being of the animal and the peace of mind of the owner.

Mar 08, 2025 · Marilynn CunninghamWe bring all of our fur babies to Southtowns, and when I say "all," I mean all nine of them and counting! We love the knowledgeable veterinarians and professional staff. We wouldn't go anywhere else to have our pets seen. The wait to get in can be lengthy, but that's to he expected. The wait is totally worth the service.
Jun 20, 2022 · ErinWe don't go here typically but our dog was choking and we live nearby and they were open, so we ran her in hoping for help but said her color was good(she is furry how can you tell and her neck was going in and out like a turtle) not right but was told that the DR said he couldn't help they were closing and to go to Orchard Park medical. Seriously...you are open right now and you can't take a quick look!! Reason one why I stopped going to this place and they are within feet of my house!! Terrible
