This is both a review, and a thank you message to the clinic. I cannot thank Dr. Patty and her amazing staff enough. In August 2022, my cat, Tito, was diagnosed with kidney disease that was fairly advanced. Dr. Patty鈥檚 approach to his diagnoses and care plan was kind, empathetic, and pragmatic. Last week, Tito鈥檚 pain increased so rapidly overnight that we had to make the urgent decision to put him to sleep. I called that morning, and they got us in for an appointment within a few hours. When I arrived at the clinic, I was absolutely distraught (aka bawling 馃槶) because I鈥檝e had Tito since he was a kitten for almost 17 years. They were all so incredibly comforting and allowed me to be emotional without judgment or making me feel rushed in any way. Dr. Patty talked us through the process and what to expect. They treated Tito with so much respect and dignity in his final moments. I seriously can鈥檛 express how thankful I am for Dr. Patty and the staff we were with that day. Today, I received Tito鈥檚 ashes back exactly one week later, and they were wrapped up beautifully. I had a lot of anxiety about the whole cremation process, but I feel that he was treated well. I鈥檇 definitely recommend them. In the future when I have a new furbaby, I will be back to South Point Animal Clinic. Thank you again for being there for Tito and me 馃樆

This is the best veterinary clinic I have found in AZ. Both of my Dacshunds have gone here since they were born, and I would not go anywhere else. Dr. Patty has always given us sound advice, and her staff is extremely professional, trained, and caring. Thank you South Point for always making Dash & Lily feel safe, and cared for.

Dr. Patty and her staff are fantastic! We have taken our fur babies to her for well over 10 years and are so glad we have a vet as knowledgeable and professional as she is.

While everyone is very friendly and kind in this office I don鈥檛 recommend bringing your pet here. My Cat is 17 and he has changed from early stage kidney disease to stage 3. While I understand there is not slowing this down or curing it, I also understand there are options to keep him living a good life for now, which this vet office didn鈥檛 provide me, they didn鈥檛 even go over the blood panels besides stating the creatine levels. When I asked next steps they just said he won鈥檛 have much time and to let them know if any changes. A cat with this stage can live 6-18months, they treated this like stage 4 the way they brushed this off. He had lost weight had been sick a lot and not eating well over the last couple months, they offered no guidance in helping this. He鈥檚 always been over 10lbs as a senior cat, and he was down to 8.3lbs. He also has IBD, I have asked if this could be part of the problem and they shrug this off as they can鈥檛 do much, this vet did give me a laxative earlier this year for this, but it鈥檚 a thick gel and my cat hates it. I can鈥檛 give it to him daily he won鈥檛 take it. When I asked for alternatives they also weren鈥檛 helpful, just told me to go to pet smart and try something they had. I went to pet smart and they don鈥檛 have laxatives so they provided no other support here. I took my cat over to family vet care of chandler after this phone call from south point animal, basically telling me I had no way to help my cat. Family vet care have given me multiple prescriptions for different foods to try encourage better eating habits, and well as had me go get miralax (over the counter powder laxative can be found at any pharmacy) that I can easily sprinkle on to food/treats and it has no odor or flavor. This has him being able to poop with out straining, and now that he is not in pain/constipated and having softer, regular stools, he is eating 3 meals again daily. They also explained his blood panels in detail, they noted the high levels of phosphorus likely make him nauseous (since his kidneys aren鈥檛 filtering properly), so they also had me get a medication for this to help lower the levels (ordered from Amazon: aluminum hydroxide). They also let me know at this stage fluid treatment is an option. While I will have the vet give him fluids while at the vet, I know he won鈥檛 take to me giving him a needle everyday, so I won鈥檛 be doing this. But I have got lots of broth treats and supplements now to give him daily to increase his fluid intake outside of the water. Lastly they prescribed me benazepril, this medication is rubbed into the ear and not digested so it鈥檚 very easy to aid him. This medication is used to decrease blood pressure in the kidney and reduce protein leakage into the urine. Every cat is different, some will respond better to certain treatments/options than others, but you need to be seeing a vet that will explain the blood work and then provide options so you can make the best choices for your pet. South point did not explain any of this to me. Over the last weeks under different care, his mood has improved, and well as his eating habits and bathroom movements. He is much more himself and is currently weighing 9.12lbs. Please don鈥檛 take your pets to the clinic, I don鈥檛 believe they will provide you a proper knowledge for you to make the best choices to care for your pet. If I continued with this vet I鈥檇 be watching my cat straining daily in pain, and starving still and getting ready to put him down within the next 2 months. I genuinely believe at this point he has another 6-12 more months comfortably before I have to evaluate his quality of life, I would have lost that all continuing his care here. And to reply; I obviously am prioritizing his quality of life, you didn鈥檛 provide insight for me to know if he still had options to have a happy life, that鈥檚 the point of the post.
