New in town. I can see some of the negative perspective from some reviews here. First off they are not appointment based. Walk-in only. Of the three visits I’ve had. I left one of my dogs there for two of them. My past veterinarians were better at calling with updates than this place is. The first time, no call until an hour before closing (after being there for eight hours for an X-ray). Second time with surgery. I dropped her off at 7 in the morning. Didn’t go into surgery until 6pm which I did not know until I called. Sure I’m just a dog dad worrying about his little girl. But I would’ve appreciated a heads up. Especially since I was told to have her not eat the night before. Staff interactions have been pleasant, but i do think communicating when leaving a pet there could be better! Not being appointment based though jumbles things up for many pet parents.

Smith Animal Hospital Introduce
Welcome to the introduction of Smith Animal Hospital, a veterinary care provider located at 1080 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29303, USA. Operating within the Pet Hospital category, Smith Animal Hospital offers a range of services for your animal companions. This introduction aims to provide local users with an overview of the clinic based on available information, including insights into its environment, services, features, and any discernible promotional aspects, while maintaining an objective perspective based on customer reviews found online.
Based on the limited information, specifically the customer reviews, it's challenging to paint a comprehensive picture of the hospital's environment. However, we can glean some insights. One recurring theme in the reviews is the "sweet local practice" feel, suggesting a community-oriented approach. While the physical ambiance isn't described in detail, the positive interactions with the staff mentioned by one reviewer ("Staff interactions have been pleasant") hint at a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It's important to note that the clinic operates on a walk-in basis, which can influence the overall flow and potentially the waiting times experienced by pet owners.
The services offered at Smith Animal Hospital appear to cover a range of common veterinary needs. One customer mentioned bringing their dog in for an X-ray and later for surgery, indicating that the hospital is equipped to handle both diagnostic procedures and surgical interventions. Another reviewer highlighted the clinic's responsiveness and helpfulness in situations like vaccination reactions and a puppy's tendency to ingest foreign objects ("Honey randomly swallowing rocks and baby socks as a puppy lol"). This suggests that Smith Animal Hospital provides care for both routine and more urgent, unexpected health issues. While a complete list of services isn't provided, based on these experiences, it's reasonable to infer that they likely offer:
- Diagnostic services: Including X-rays to identify internal issues.
- Surgical procedures: Addressing various health conditions requiring surgical intervention.
- Vaccinations: Providing essential immunizations to protect pets from diseases.
- Treatment for allergic reactions: Managing adverse responses to vaccinations or other allergens.
- Care for accidental ingestion: Assisting pets who have ingested harmful or indigestible items.
It is important to note that one reviewer expressed concerns about the lack of proactive communication, particularly when a pet is left at the hospital for extended periods or undergoing surgery. This feedback suggests that while the medical care itself may be adequate, the communication protocols, especially regarding updates to concerned pet owners, could be an area for improvement.
A key feature of Smith Animal Hospital, explicitly mentioned in the reviews, is its walk-in-only policy. This can be both a benefit and a drawback for pet owners. For those with urgent issues that don't necessarily require emergency room visits, the walk-in option can provide timely access to veterinary care without the need to wait for an appointment. However, as pointed out by one reviewer, this approach can also lead to longer waiting times and potential unpredictability in the flow of patients. It's crucial for local users to be aware of this policy when considering Smith Animal Hospital for their pet's needs.
Another notable feature is the perceived care and affection shown towards the animals. The statement "They’ve always loved our Honey-girl well" indicates a compassionate approach from the staff towards their patients. This can be a significant factor for pet owners who prioritize a caring and attentive environment for their animals. The reviewer also noted the quick and helpful responses received during times of concern, highlighting the staff's willingness to assist when issues arise.
Currently, there is no explicit mention of any specific promotional information or special offers from Smith Animal Hospital in the provided reviews. It's possible that they may have promotions that are not reflected in these particular testimonials. Local users interested in learning about any potential discounts, packages, or special services are advised to contact the hospital directly at (864) 585-3401 or mobile phone at +1 864-585-3401. Inquiring about first-time client specials or loyalty programs might also be beneficial.
In summary, Smith Animal Hospital in Spartanburg, SC, operates as a walk-in Pet Hospital providing a range of veterinary services, including diagnostics, surgery, and general medical care. Customer reviews suggest a "sweet local practice" with pleasant staff interactions and a caring attitude towards animals. However, one review points out potential challenges with communication, particularly regarding updates when pets are left in their care, and the implications of their walk-in-only policy on waiting times. While no specific promotions are mentioned, local users seeking veterinary care at Smith Animal Hospital can expect a practice that has been helpful in addressing various pet health concerns. It is recommended to contact the hospital directly for more detailed information about their services and policies.

Oct 21, 2024 · Ross LaRoccoThey’ve always loved our Honey-girl well, and have been quick and helpful when we’ve had issues like vaccination reactions & Honey randomly swallowing rocks and baby socks as a puppy lol. Highly recommend this sweet local practice!
Jan 25, 2025 · Priscilla JostesI was with my sister-in-law and my mother. We have come here for about 2 maybe more years now and they have been great. Now they’re not at all friendly and were very disappointed and disrespectful….Was not happy at all with this visit. We will try another doctor there or find a new one because this was unexpecxeable. 🤦🏼♀️😤 They tried to say she had behavioral problem because she was barking when she is a german shepherd and is bred to protect herself and me and my family! She is A dog she is gonna bark and if you can’t handle a barking dog then you don’t need to be a veterinarian. This was so terrible. 😤
Dec 10, 2024 · Piper ShermanI have been here twice and will continue to come here and recommend this place to people. Both times have been quick, we were listened to and 100% satisfied with the treatment of our pets. Reasonable pricing as well!
Mar 13, 2025 · CassieI got my dobie cropped on March 12, 2024. Have nothing but good things to say about how his ears turned out, the only “bad” thing is I didn’t like how they were posting his ears, the tape they were using always left his ears irritated and bald bc it was too sticky, so I decided to learn and started doing it myself. Like I said the crop itself is beautiful, I love how they turned out, is exactly what I asked for. For posting tho I’d advise you to learn how to do it yourself.
