Decided to try Shelter Bay instead of my usual vet and will not be returning. The Good: + My cat has is elderly with a nervous tum, and he pooed the carrier on the short drive in. My front-desk experience was the best here - the front desk associate that grabbed the squirming cat from my arms and helped us to an exam room was amazing. She took the stinky carrier and cleaned/sanitized it for us, and I so appreciate her. + He is healing well from the wound he had, so I have no reason to doubt the quality of the medical treatment he received. Why I Only Gave Two Stars: - I had to clean up my cat myself in the exam room with dry paper towel. - I waited 45 minutes in the exam room before a vet tech/nurse even came in to discuss what was going on. Another 15 after that for the vet to come in. -- The biggest negative came at the end when I paid my bill. I had a good idea of how much money this vet trip was going to cost based on the treatment plan they discussed with me - but the grand total contained an additional $250 for "doctor time" and "nurse/tech time" that was never mentioned when I made the appointment, or when they gave me the itemized list of services they wanted to perform that day. $250 is too much money to be surprised by at the end of an appointment after services are already rendered. Aside from the expensive surprise at the end, this vet office is also a hybrid zoom/in-person setup. I was lucky enough to get the in-house vet this time, but if I'm going to shell out $170 for 20 minutes of "doctor time" then I want a vet that is actually going to be there to touch my pet and feel/see any irregularities in person. I'd say Shelter Bay is fine in a pinch, but expect to pay more than the treatment plan states and you may end up with a vet that can't even touch your pet.

Based on feedback from local pet owners, Shelter Bay Animal Hospital appears to offer a mixed experience. One customer highlighted a positive interaction with the front desk staff, particularly appreciating their assistance in a challenging situation involving an elderly cat. This individual also noted that their pet healed well from a wound, suggesting a satisfactory level of medical treatment provided.

However, another review pointed out areas for potential improvement. This customer mentioned having to clean up their cat in the exam room themselves and experienced a significant wait time before seeing a veterinary technician and subsequently the veterinarian. A major concern raised was the unexpected addition of a $250 charge for "doctor time" and "nurse/tech time" to the final bill, which was not communicated beforehand. This individual also noted the hybrid zoom/in-person consultation model, expressing a preference for an in-person veterinarian, especially given the cost of "doctor time."

On a more positive note, another pet owner expressed immense gratitude for the care their pet received at Shelter Bay Animal Hospital. They sought a second opinion and were seen quickly, appreciating the detailed explanations and options provided. This reviewer found the team accommodating and communicative, a contrast to a previous veterinary experience. Notably, the team at Shelter Bay Animal Hospital provided compassionate support during a difficult time when the pet had to be laid to rest, even staying past closing hours. This individual praised the staff's kindness and the comfort they provided.

Considering these varied experiences, Shelter Bay Animal Hospital offers a range of veterinary services. While specific details about the environment of the clinic are not provided in the reviews, we can infer that they have examination rooms and a reception area. The services mentioned include wound treatment, potentially dental care (implied by the need for a second opinion), and compassionate end-of-life care. The hospital also seems to utilize a hybrid model involving both in-person and potentially remote (zoom) consultations.

Features of Shelter Bay Animal Hospital, based on the reviews, include a helpful and empathetic front desk staff, as highlighted in one instance. The medical treatment quality seems adequate, as one pet recovered well from a wound. The hospital also demonstrated compassion and flexibility in a sensitive situation involving end-of-life care, going above and beyond to provide comfort and time for the pet owner. Furthermore, the ability to get a second opinion quickly and receive detailed communication about treatment options appears to be a notable feature for some clients.

However, potential users should be aware of the reported longer wait times and the possibility of unexpected charges, as mentioned by one reviewer. The hybrid consultation model might also be a consideration for pet owners who prefer exclusively in-person veterinary interactions.

In summary, Shelter Bay Animal Hospital in Novi, MI, offers veterinary services with some commendable aspects, such as caring staff and quality medical treatment in certain cases. They also demonstrated exceptional compassion in end-of-life care. However, potential clients should be mindful of the reported issues regarding wait times and unexpected billing. As a Pet Hospital in your local area, Shelter Bay Animal Hospital aims to provide care for your pets, and it is advisable to discuss all potential costs and the consultation format upfront to ensure it aligns with your expectations.

For local users seeking a Pet Hospital, Shelter Bay Animal Hospital is an option to consider. We recommend contacting them directly at (248) 277-9200 to inquire about their services, appointment procedures, and billing practices to make an informed decision about your pet's care.

When I say I am so grateful for these people, I am so grateful! I had called for a second opinion and they got me in quickly and were very detailed and accommodating. They communicated multiple reasonings and options for me and weren’t as blunt and uncommunicative as the last vet I’d seen. Sadly my baby peaknuckle had to be laid to rest, but this team made everything go smoothly and I felt so much comfort throughout. They stayed later past closing to give us time and to let our baby go peacefully. I love everyone in this office who supported my baby and showed her as much love as my husband and I have shown her over the years.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the new vet in Novi, Shelter Bay. My dog was having trouble with soreness on his paws from the snow, and the team here took such great care of him. From the moment we walked in, I was impressed by how clean, beautiful, and modern the clinic is—it’s such a welcoming space. Never seen a vet so intentionally built for the comfort of animals (and their people). The care my dog received was just as exceptional as the environment. The vet and staff were thorough, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything clearly and give us a plan for home care the . My dog felt calm and cared for. I’m so glad to have found this brand-new clinic that blends cutting-edge care with such kindness and professionalism. Highly recommend!

Wow, what an awesome facility. I went to the new clinic Shelter Bay Animal Hospital with my dog (Flash) to get his rabies shot. A friend who had taken his dog there recently recommended me to visit this facility. First impression, absolutely amazing. Our pets are family, our children, and we want the best possible care for them. From the second I pulled in and entered this facility the team at Shelter Bay welcomed me and my dog in. I loved the modern yet warm atmosphere of the clinic. Right off the bat I noticed this place was spotless and didn’t have that smell of dog and cat. The Staff were all amazing and friendly but what really impressed me is they wanted to know exactly what it would take to make my dog feel comfortable when being approached and examined by their assistant and the veterinarian. They took the time needed to let my dog become comfortable with them. They were not rushed to just get their job done. This made my dog extremely comfortable. The shot and examination went off without a hitch. I’m So glad I have found a veterinarian clinic so close to where I am where I can trust with the health and welfare of my dog Flash. Just a sidenote, their weight scale is massive so it was so easy to get my dog to go on the scale and get an accurate weight reading. I’ve been to A few dog clinics that the scale is so small it’s impossible to get your dog to stand on it to get an accurate reading. It’s these little things that I found made this facility the best I’ve ever seen. All the equipment I saw was new and modern, and they were happy to answer my questions that I had about it.

When reading my review please keep in mind that I am a vet tech working at a specialty practice, and this was my first time EVER not working general medicine and looking for a reg vet for my two cats. This was a massive stressor for me as I have never not been an active part of my pets care. And unfortunately even I know that while there are many who genuinely have a passion for this field and a passion to provide the best care possible there are also a lot of burnt out techs/doctors. Well turns out there was no need to worry because the way they run their appointments made it feel like I had found a team of people who were kind, willing to listen, and ready to partner with me on my cat’s health. Despite working in this field when it comes to my own pets health I have a lot of worries as any other owner would. I was worried I was rambling too much but they made me feel like they had the time to give. I was worried my pets might be pushed too far but they showed clear knowledge of what real fear free looks like in practice. It’s a clean, open, stress free (as much as it can be) space for your pets. The staff seem like they genuinely enjoy working there. I feel like I hit the lotto in finding a reg vet first try that I could see continuing care with for the remainder of my pets lives. Special shout outs to Deanna their remote tech who spent 30 minutes on the phone with me getting my pets scheduled and discussing our shared passion for this field, to Jeannie for the warm welcome. To Tiana for taking her time with not only my pets but also with me. To doctor Myers and Dougan for taking their time in the exam room, reviewing things with me they could have very well passed off to the tech to discuss, for going slow with my cats and respecting their boundaries, for sending me articles to learn more on my pets health issues despite not being asked. This is veterinary medicine at its FINEST . This is our field advancing into a higher standard of care and Shelter Bay is 100% paving the way. Cannot say enough good things and am genuinely excited to bring my cat in for her sedated xrays because I know I found her top notch care.
